ANNOUNCER: THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM IS PAID FOR BY
THE FRIENDS AND PARTNERS OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES.
[MUSIC]
JOYCE: SPIRITUAL MATURITY.
I'M GOING TO START WITH A STORY THAT ANY TIME I USE THIS STORY,
I PRETTY MUCH ALWAYS CLOSE WITH IT.
BUT I THOUGHT, "I'M GOING TO DO IT BACKWARDS TONIGHT,
I'M GOING TO START WITH IT."
SOMETIMES, I JUST LIKE TO SHAKE THINGS UP A LITTLE BIT, AMEN?
A COUPLE WENT INTO AN ANTIQUE SHOP, AND THEY SAW A VERY
BEAUTIFUL, I MEAN A REALLY BEAUTIFUL, MAGNIFICENT LITTLE
TEACUP SITTING VERY HIGH UPON A SHELF IN THE STORE.
AND THEY JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.
THEY GO, "THAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TEACUP I HAD
EVER SEEN.
WE HAVE TO HAVE THIS TEACUP."
WHILE THEY WERE ADMIRING THE TEACUP, ALL OF THE SUDDEN
THE TEACUP BEGAN TO TALK.
AND IT SAID, "YOU KNOW, I HAVE NOT ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS.
THERE WAS A TIME WHEN NOBODY WOULD'VE WANTED ME.
THERE WAS A TIME WHERE I WAS NOT ATTRACTIVE AT ALL.
YOU SEE, THERE WAS A TIME IN MY LIFE WHEN I WAS JUST AN OLD,
HARD, GREY LUMP OF CLAY.
AND THE MASTER POTTER CAME ALONG, AND HE PICKED ME UP
ONE DAY, AND HE BEGAN TO PAT ME AND RESHAPE ME.
AND I SAID, 'STOP THAT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
THAT HURTS.
LEAVE ME ALONE.' AND HE SIMPLY LOOKED AT ME
WITH A LITTLE SMILE AND SAID, 'NOT YET.'
AND THEN HE PUT ME ON THIS WHEEL, AND HE
BEGAN TO SPIN ME AROUND AND AROUND AND AROUND.
I GOT SO DIZZY, I COULDN'T EVEN HARDLY SEE WHERE I WAS GOING.
I FELT LIKE I WAS LOSING IT.
EVERYTHING WAS SPINNING AROUND.
I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON ANYMORE.
I FELT SICK TO MY STOMACH AND I SAID, 'LET ME OUT OF HERE,'
AND HE JUST SMILED AND SAID, 'NOT YET.'"
ANYBODY KIND OF GET THE SYMPTOMS?
OKAY.
"FINALLY, THE DAY COME WHEN I HAD TAKEN ON ANOTHER SHAPE,
ALL THAT SPINNING AROUND FINALLY GAVE ME ANOTHER SHAPE, AND ALL
THAT PATTING AND MOLDING AND SQUEEZING AND PINCHING GAVE ME
ANOTHER SHAPE.
AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, HE PUT ME INTO A FURNACE.
AND IT WAS CALLED THE FIRST FIRING, AND IT WAS SO HOT
IN THERE.
OH, I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW HOT IT WAS.
I THOUGHT, 'I CAN'T STAND THIS, I'M GOING TO DIE.
YOU HAVE GOT TO GET ME OUT OF HERE.
DON'T YOU LOVE ME?' WHILE CRYING,
'WHY ARE YOU LEAVING ME HERE?' YOU SEE, THE OVEN DOOR
HAD GLASS IN IT, AND THE MASTER COULD LOOK IN THROUGH THE GLASS,
AND HE JUST HAD THIS BIG GRIN ON HIS FACE AND A CERTAIN LOOK IN
HIS EYES, BUT HE WOULDN'T LET ME OUT.
AND THEN HE JUST SMILED AND SIMPLY SAID, 'NOT YET.'
FINALLY, THE OVEN DOOR OPENED, AND HE TOOK ME OUT
AND HE SET ME ON A SHELF, AND I THOUGHT, 'PHEW,
THANK GOD THAT'S OVER.' THEN HE BEGAN TO PAINT ME
ALL OVER."
WE THINK THAT, "OH, THANK GOD THAT'S OVER, I FINALLY GOT
THAT ONE."
"THEN HE BEGAN TO PAINT ME ALL OVER WITH A STINKY PAINT,
CHANGING MY COLOR FROM GREY TO A PRETTY BLUE THAT I AM NOW,
AND I SAID, 'THIS STUFF STINKS, IT'S CHOKING ME.
[COUGHING]
I DON'T LIKE THIS SMELL.
STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT.'
AND ALL HE WOULD SAY IS, 'NOT YET.'
THEN HE PUT ME BACK INTO THE SECOND OVEN, AND IT WAS
CALLED A SECOND FIRING, AND IT WAS TWICE AS HOT.
AND I THOUGHT, 'NOW, I'M REALLY GOING TO DIE FOR SURE.
THIS IS THE END OF ME.
THIS WILL FINISH ME OFF.
GET ME OUT OF HERE.
I CAN'T STAND IT, I CAN'T STAND IT.'"
I BET THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOME OF YOU MAYBE EVEN THIS WEEK.
"'I'M TELLING YOU, GOD, I CAN'T STAND IT.
I MEAN, REALLY GOD, I REALLY CAN'T STAND IT.
GET ME OUT OF HERE.' AND HE JUST LOOKS THROUGH
THE GLASS AND SAY, 'NOT YET.'" NOW, DON'T GIVE UP ON ME,
WE'RE JUST ABOUT DONE HERE.
"THEN ONE DAY, THE DOOR FINALLY OPENED, AND HE TOOK ME OUT AND
HE PUT ME UP HERE ON THIS SHELF TO LET ME COOL OFF."
HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT WHEN GOD PUTS YOU ON A SHELF TO LET YOU
COOL OFF?
"AND AFTER I COOLED OFF, ONE DAY HE CAME BY AND HE HANDED ME
THIS MIRROR.
AND I LOOKED AT MYSELF, AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW BEAUTIFUL
I WAS, AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH I HAD CHANGED.
WELL, I DID NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THAT OLD, GREY LUMP OF CLAY
THAT I STARTED OUT TO BE.
NOW, I'M THIS BEAUTIFUL, DELICATE TEACUP, AND EVERYBODY
WANTS ME NOW.
BUT THERE WAS A TIME IN MY LIFE WHEN NOBODY WANTED ME,
NOBODY LIKED ME, NOBODY PAID ANY ATTENTION TO ME.
THEY JUST KICKED ME AROUND AND WALKED ON ME,
BUT NOW I'M SPECIAL.
BUT YOU SEE, I WASN'T ALWAYS THIS WAY."
GIVE GOD A PRAISE HERE.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: NOW, I'VE ALWAYS HAD A LEANING TOWARD
TEACHING IN SOME WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM ON
SPIRITUAL MATURITY.
WHEN GOD CALLED ME TO TEACH, I WAS A PERSON WHO'D BEEN
A CHRISTIAN FOR A LONG TIME, BUT I HAD NEVER REALLY BEEN
TAUGHT REALLY HARDLY ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT SPIRITUAL MATURITY.
I WAS TAUGHT A LOT ABOUT DOCTRINE, I HAD GOOD DOCTRINE,
I KNEW ABOUT THE TRINITY, THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, COMMUNION,
AND A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT WE LEARN WHEN WE GO TO CHURCH, BUT
I WASN'T HEARING WHAT I NEEDED TO DEAL WITH THE KINDS OF
PROBLEMS THAT I HAD IN MY LIFE.
AND SO, BECAUSE OF THAT, I CERTAINLY WASN'T A VERY
GOOD WITNESS.
I REALLY WASN'T HELPING ANYBODY ELSE.
AND SO, WHEN I REALLY BEGAN TO LEARN THE WORD AND I SAW WHAT
GOD REALLY WANTED TO DO IN OUR LIVES, I JUST HAD A PASSION FOR
THE CHRISTIAN WHO LOVES GOD, BUT JUST KEEPS STAYING IN THAT
BABY STAGE OF CHRISTIANITY.
AND WHEN WE'RE LIKE THAT, NOT ONLY CAN WE NOT REALLY HELP
ANYBODY ELSE, BUT WE'RE NOT HAPPY.
WE'RE NOT HAPPY, WE'RE NOT CONTENT, WE'RE NOT SATISFIED.
WE ALWAYS THINK THERE'S ONE MORE THING THAT WE'VE GOT TO HAVE
TO BE HAPPY.
AND JESUS DIED THAT WE COULD HAVE AND ENJOY OUR LIFE, NOT SO
WE COULD JUST NOW BE A MISERABLE CHRISTIAN.
YOU KNOW, IT'S ONE THING TO BE A MISERABLE SINNER, IT'S ANOTHER
THING TO BE A MISERABLE CHRISTIAN.
I THINK THAT THERE SHOULD BE SOME KIND OF A TRANSITION THAT
TAKES PLACE.
AND YOU KNOW, GOD WANTS US TO ENJOY OUR LIVES, THERE'S NO
DOUBT ABOUT THAT, AND HE WANTS US TO BE BLESSED, BUT I WANT
EVERYBODY TO BE CLEAR AND UNDERSTAND THAT THAT'S NOT
THE ONLY REASON WHY YOU'RE ON THE PLANET.
GOD DOESN'T HAVE US HERE JUST SO WE CAN GET EVERYTHING WE WANT,
AND JUST SO WE CAN BE HAPPY AND WE CAN HAVE A NICE LIFE.
WE ARE HIS REPRESENTATIVES IN THE EARTH.
THE BIBLE SAYS IT CLEARLY THAT WE ARE GOD'S REPRESENTATIVES.
AND THE AMPLIFIED BIBLE SAYS THAT GOD IS MAKING HIS APPEAL TO
THE WORLD THROUGH US.
NOW, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU IN THIS BUILDING AND EVERYBODY
WATCHING BY TV, I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO
THE CAUSE OF CHRIST IN THE WORLD TODAY.
AND IF THERE WAS EVER A TIME IN THE WORLD, EVER A TIME, AND I
KNOW THAT TIMES HAVE BEEN BAD IN THE PAST, WE ALWAYS SAY,
"WELL, THIS IS THE WORST THINGS HAVE EVER BEEN."
AND YOU KNOW, THEN SOMETIMES YOU READ SOME STUFF IN HISTORY AND
YOU THINK, "WELL, I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE NOT."
BUT YOU KNOW, THINGS ARE REALLY BAD, AND MORE AND MORE PEOPLE
DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD.
MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE FINDING REASONS TO TRY TO GET GOD
OUT OF THEIR LIFE.
AND SO, REALLY AND TRULY, WE DO LIVE IN DESPERATE TIMES.
BUT THEY CAN ALSO BE WONDERFUL TIMES IF WE'LL ALL JUST REALIZE,
"I'M NOT HERE JUST FOR ME.
I'M HERE BECAUSE GOD WANTS TO DO SOMETHING, YES, FOR ME, BUT HE
ALSO WANTS TO DO SOMETHING THROUGH ME.
AND IN ORDER FOR HIM TO DO SOMETHING THROUGH ME,
I HAVE TO GET OUT OF HIS WAY."
AMEN?
SO, JUST REAL QUICKLY, IF MAYBE YOU'VE NEVER MADE THAT
TRANSITION FROM SAYING, "GOD, I NEED THIS, I NEED THIS.
DO THIS FOR ME, GIVE ME THIS, GIVE ME THAT, GIVE ME SOMETHING
ELSE," IF YOU'VE NEVER MADE THE TRANSITION FROM THAT TO,
"GOD, WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO USE ME FOR," THEN HOW ABOUT LET'S JUST DO A
TURNAROUND HERE TONIGHT AND GET THINGS STRAIGHTENED OUT THE WAY
THAT GOD WANTS THEM TO BE?
I LOVE THE STORY OF THE PRODIGAL SON,
AND YOU'RE PROBABLY FAMILIAR WITH IT IF YOU'VE BEEN IN CHURCH
VERY MUCH, BUT JUST REAL QUICKLY, WHEN THAT BOY LEFT
HOME, HE WANTED HIS INHERITANCE, AND HE LEFT SAYING TO HIS
FATHER, "GIVE ME, GIVE ME."
AFTER A TRIP IN THE PIG PEN AND REALIZING WHAT HE HAD GIVEN UP
AND WHAT HE HAD AT HOME, HE SAID, "I'M GOING TO GO BACK
TO MY FATHER."
AND WHEN HE WENT BACK, HE SAID TO HIS FATHER, "MAKE ME WHAT YOU
WANT ME TO BE."
SO, WE NEED TO GO FROM GIVE ME TO MAKE ME.
WE NEED TO GO FROM, "THIS IS WHAT I WANT," TO,
"GOD, WHAT DO YOU WANT?" AND I CAN TELL YOU, YOU MAY
THINK THAT YOU CANNOT DO WITHOUT THE THINGS THAT YOU WANT RIGHT
NOW, BUT I CAN TELL YOU IF WHAT YOU WANT IS WHAT GOD WANTS,
YOU'LL END UP WITH IT, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND ALL
YOUR TIME TRYING TO GET IT.
IF YOU CHASE GOD, THE BLESSINGS WILL CHASE YOU.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: WE ALL HAVE MANY--I MEAN, I HAVE THINGS THAT I WANT.
I HAVE THINGS IN MY LIFE I DON'T WANT.
I HAVE THINGS THAT I DON'T HAVE THAT I DO WANT.
YOU KNOW, WE ALL HAVE DESIRES, WE ALL HAVE THINGS THAT WE WANT.
BUT WE HAVE TO GET THINGS--JESUS SAID, "I'D RATHER NOT DO THIS.
IF YOU CAN REMOVE THIS CUP FROM ME, THEN REMOVE IT FROM ME.
NEVERTHELESS, YOUR WILL BE DONE AND NOT MINE."
SO, SPIRITUAL MATURITY, WHAT DOES SPIRITUAL MATURITY LOOK
LIKE?
A PERSON WHO'S SPIRITUALLY MATURE, WHAT ARE SOME OF
THE THINGS THAT WE MIGHT SEE IN THEIR LIVES?
WELL, FIRST OF ALL, THERE'S A LOT OF SELF-CONTROL.
THERE'S A LOT OF, "GOD, I WANT YOUR WILL," IN THEIR PRAYERS.
THEY'RE VERY CAREFUL WITH THEIR WORDS, THEY HAVE VERY
DISCIPLINED SPEECH.
THEY DON'T LIVE BY THEIR FEELINGS.
THEY HAVE FEELINGS, BUT THEY DON'T LET THEIR FEELINGS RULE
THEM AND CONTROL THEM.
LOTS AND LOTS OF CONSISTENCY.
NOT ONE TIME ONE WAY YOU SEE THEM, AND ANOTHER TIME
THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE THEM.
AND HAPPY WHEN THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES ARE GOOD, AND NOT
HAPPY WHEN THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES AREN'T GOOD, JUST CONSISTENCY.
LOTS OF GENEROSITY.
A REAL SPIRITUALLY MATURE CHRISTIAN, YOU DON'T HAVE
TO TRY TO TALK THEM INTO GIVING.
THEY GET UP EVERY DAY LOOKING FOR WAYS TO BE A BLESSING
TO PEOPLE.
LOTS OF HUMILITY FROM A SPIRITUALLY MATURE CHRISTIAN.
QUICK TO FORGIVE.
DIFFICULT TO OFFEND.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: NOW, I'M SURE THAT ALL OF YOU HERE HAVE ALL THESE
QUALITIES AND THAT YOU DON'T REALLY NEED MUCH OF THIS, BUT
I'VE BEEN IN KIND OF A SEASON LATELY OF GOD DEALING WITH ME
ABOUT SOME THINGS.
AND I TOLD SOMEBODY TONIGHT IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE GONE
THROUGH THIS.
I'VE BEEN WALKING WITH GOD QUITE A WHILE AND, YOU KNOW,
GOD DEALS WITH US IN LAYERS.
SOMETIMES, YOU THINK THAT YOU JUST REALLY MASTERED SOMETHING,
AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, GOD WILL COME ALONG AND--YOU KNOW
WHEN--YOU MIGHT SAY, "WELL, WHAT DO YOU MEAN GOD'S DEALING
WITH ME?" WELL, ONE OF THE THINGS WHEN GOD
IS DEALING WITH YOU IS YOU BEGIN TO NOTICE THINGS IN YOUR
BEHAVIOR THAT MAYBE YOU DIDN'T PAY THAT MUCH ATTENTION
TO BEFORE.
SO, I'VE BEEN HEARING A LOT OF IN MY HEART, "WELL, THAT WAS
SELFISH.
WELL, YOU SURE DIDN'T NEED TO SAY THAT."
AND IT'S BEEN KIND OF GOING ON FOR A LITTLE WHILE, SO I'LL JUST
TELL YOU THE TRUTH.
IF YOU DON'T NEED THIS MESSAGE TONIGHT, I'LL BE HAPPY TO STAND
HERE AND PREACH TO MYSELF BECAUSE I DO NEED IT.
AND YOU SEE, YOU'RE GOING TO BE GROWING YOUR WHOLE LIFE.
THIS IS NOT JUST SOMETHING WHERE YOU ARRIVE.
THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID, "I'VE NOT ARRIVED.
BUT ONE THING I DO, IT'S MY ONE ASPIRATION,
FORGETTING WHAT LIES BEHIND AND PRESSING ON TO THE THINGS
THAT ARE AHEAD."
HE SAID, "I AM--" NOW LISTEN TO THIS, HE SAID,
"I AM DETERMINED TO TAKE HOLD OF THOSE THINGS FOR WHICH
CHRIST JESUS DIED TO TAKE HOLD OF ME."
SO HE SAID, "JESUS DIED FOR US FOR A PURPOSE, NOT JUST SO WE
COULD GO TO HEAVEN, BUT SO WE COULD DEVELOP CHRIST-LIKENESS
AND BE MOLDED INTO HIS IMAGE WHILE WE'RE HERE,
AND THE WORLD COULD--" HE SAID THAT HE SHOWED
THE WORLD THE FATHER.
WELL, NOW HE'S GIVING US THE JOB OF SHOWING JESUS TO THE WORLD.
THAT'S WHAT WE'RE SUPPOSED TO DO.
AND IT'S NOT JUST UP TO SOMEBODY LIKE ME THAT'S ON TELEVISION
OR HAS A LARGE AUDIENCE.
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU CAN REACH PEOPLE THAT SOMEBODY LIKE
ME COULD NEVER REACH, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU.
YOU KNOW PEOPLE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS, YOU KNOW PEOPLE
AT YOUR WORKPLACE, YOU MEET PEOPLE ALL OVER THE PLACE.
AND IF EVERY CHRISTIAN WOULD JUST TURN THE LIGHTS ON.
HOW MANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN BY THAT?
JUST TURN THE LIGHTS ON.
MY GOODNESS, YOU KNOW WHAT?
TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH, IF CHRISTIANS WILL STOP
COMPROMISING AND STOP SLIPPING OVER INTO THE WORLD, AND REALLY
TAKE A STAND TO BE WHAT GOD WANTS THEM TO BE, WE CAN SEE
SOME GREAT THINGS HAPPEN IN THE EARTH.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: AND SO, I'VE ALWAYS PREACHED ALONG THESE LINES
IN DIFFERENT WAYS.
I DON'T PREACH ON THE SAME THING ALL THE TIME, OBVIOUSLY, BUT I
PREACH ALONG THESE LINES BECAUSE I KNOW THAT IF WE STAY BABY
CHRISTIANS, WE'RE NOT EVER GOING TO BE HAPPY.
AND I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT IF I'M GOING TO BE HERE,
I WANT TO BE HAPPY.
I MEAN, IF WE'RE GOING TO STAY BABY CHRISTIANS, WE'RE NEVER
REALLY GOING TO HAVE ANY PEACE.
YOU KNOW WHY?
YOU CAN'T CONTROL ALL YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES AND NEITHER CAN I.
SO, WE HAVE TO LEARN IF WE CAN'T CONTROL OUR CIRCUMSTANCES, THEN
WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO CONTROL OURSELVES SO OUR CIRCUMSTANCES
ARE NOT RULING US ALL THE TIME, AMEN?
SO, 2 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 3, VERSE 18, "AND ALL OF US AS WITH
UNVEILED FACE," KEEP THAT UNVEILED FACE IN MIND, I'M GOING
TO EXPLAIN THAT TO YOU.
"[BECAUSE WE] CONTINUED," STRESSING CONTINUED, "TO BEHOLD
[IN THE WORD OF GOD] AS IN A MIRROR THE GLORY OF THE LORD,
WE ARE CONSTANTLY BEING TRANSFIGURED INTO HIS VERY OWN
IMAGE IN EVER INCREASING SPLENDOR, AND FROM ONE DEGREE
OF GLORY TO ANOTHER [FOR THIS COMES] FROM THE LORD [WHO IS]
THE SPIRIT."
SO, GOD CHANGES US IN DEGREES FROM GLORY TO GLORY.
AND SO, I TOLD YOU GOD'S BEEN DEALING WITH ME ABOUT JUST
STUFF, YOU KNOW?
I DON'T KNOW, NOT PROBABLY THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO SEND ME
TO HELL, BUT JUST STUFF, YOU KNOW?
JUST THINGS THAT HE WANTS ME TO COME UP HIGHER IN.
AND SO, WHAT HE'S DOING IS HE'S CALLING ME INTO ANOTHER LEVEL
OF GLORY.
YOU GO FROM GLORY TO GLORY TO GLORY TO GLORY.
WELL, USUALLY--WELL, NOT USUALLY, ALWAYS YOU WILL HAVE TO
BE DEALT WITH ABOUT SOMETHING, SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE
BEHIND IN ORDER TO GO TO THAT NEXT PLACE THAT GOD HAS
WITH YOU.
SO, I'M HOPING THIS WEEKEND THAT WE CAN HELP YOU, WITH THE WORD
OF GOD, MOVE SOME OBSTACLES OUT OF YOUR PATH.
AND JUST GO AHEAD AND MAKE A DECISION TO STOP PUTTING SOME
THINGS OFF, AND JUST GET ON WITH IT, AND BEGIN TO DO WHAT GOD
WANTS YOU TO DO.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: I MEAN, BECAUSE REALLY, HOW MANY
TIMES DO YOU WANT TO GO AROUND THE SAME STUPID MOUNTAIN?
I MEAN, MOST OF YOU ARE LIKE ME, YOU'VE BEEN AROUND THE SAME ONE
LONG ENOUGH THAT YOU'RE DIZZY.
IT'S TIME TO JUST GO THROUGH IT, GO OVER IT, OR YOU KNOW,
WHATEVER.
SO, HE SAYS THAT AS WE LOOK INTO THE WORD, IT BECOMES LIKE
A MIRROR.
AND WHAT WE SEE WHEN WE LOOK IN THE WORD IS WE SEE JESUS,
BUT WE ALSO SEE OURSELVES.
THAT EVER HAPPEN TO YOU?
YOU THINK, "WELL, I GOT A LONG WAY TO GO IN THAT."
OR YOU KNOW, IT'S JUST--OR JUST REMINDERS, JUST REMINDERS.
YOU KNOW, EVERY TIME THAT I READ THE WORD, I DON'T LEARN
SOMETHING NEW, BUT I GET REMINDED OF THINGS THAT I NEED.
NOW IT'S--I WANT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING UPFRONT, AND THIS IS
VERY IMPORTANT, VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU HEAR THIS.
WE NEVER WILL CHANGE IF WE DON'T LEARN HOW TO RECEIVE CONVICTION
AND CORRECTION FROM GOD WITHOUT LETTING IT CONDEMN US.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: WHEN I FIRST STARTED REALLY HEARING
THE WORD PREACHED IN A WAY WHERE IT WAS CONVICTING ME
OF THINGS THAT WERE WRONG IN MY LIFE, EVERY TIME I WENT TO
CHURCH AND WENT HOME, I FELT WORSE WHEN I LEFT THAN I DID
BEFORE I WENT BECAUSE I ALWAYS LEFT THINKING, "WELL, ANOTHER
THING THAT'S WRONG WITH ME."
AND I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT WAS GOOD NEWS.
I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT GOD WAS LOVING ME BY SHOWING ME THINGS
THAT NEEDED TO CHANGE IN MY LIFE.
SO, I NEVER CHANGED BECAUSE AS LONG--NOW LISTEN, AS LONG AS YOU
GET CONDEMNED OR FEEL GUILTY, EVERY TIME SOMEBODY PREACHING
SAYS SOMETHING THAT CONVICTS YOU, OR GOD DEALS WITH YOU WHEN
YOU'RE PRAYING, OR YOU READ SOMETHING IN THE BIBLE THAT
CONVICTS YOU, IF YOUR FIRST RESPONSE IS TO FEEL GUILTY
AND CONDEMNED AND FEEL BAD ABOUT YOURSELF, THEN YOU'RE JUST
WASTING YOUR TIME, YOU WILL NOT GROW.
THE DEVIL JUST LOVES IT THAT YOU NOW FEEL WORSE THAN YOU DID.
HOW MANY OF YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?
ALL RIGHT, NOW AREN'T YOU TEMPTED SOMETIMES WHENEVER YOU
GET CONVICTED BY GOD TO JUST START GOING, "I'M SO BAD"?
SO, I CAN TELL YOU THAT I'VE COME A LONG WAY IN THIS BECAUSE,
I MEAN, I HAD SUCH A PROBLEM WITH GUILT BECAUSE OF BEING
ABUSED BY MY DAD THAT, I MEAN, I DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT WHEN
I DIDN'T FEEL WRONG.
I MEAN, THAT WAS ALL I KNEW HOW TO DO WAS FEEL WRONG.
AND SO I HAVE, THANK GOD, BEEN SET FREE FROM THAT.
IT WAS A LONG JOURNEY AND IT IS--IT IS WONDERFUL.
AND EVEN THOUGH I TOLD YOU THAT GOD HAS BEEN DEALING WITH ME
ABOUT SOME DIFFERENT THINGS, I CAN ALSO TELL YOU THAT NOT
ONE TIME HAVE I FELT BAD ABOUT MYSELF, NOT ONE TIME HAVE I FELT
GUILTY OR CONDEMNED.
NOW, I FEEL SORROW.
WE SHOULD FEEL SORROW OVER OUR SINS AND OUR MISCONDUCT.
WE WANT TO BE EVERYTHING THAT GOD WANTS US TO BE, BUT I'VE
ALSO LEARNED THAT REALLY AND TRULY, WHEN GOD CHASTISES US OR
HE SHOWS US AN AREA IN OUR LIFE THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE,
IT IS AN ACT OF HIS LOVE.
HE'S DOING IT OUT OF LOVE.
YOU BETTER THANK GOD THAT HE LOVES YOU ENOUGH NOT TO LEAVE
YOU ALONE IN THE MESSES THAT YOU'RE IN.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: AND SO, HOW ABOUT THIS?
BEFORE YOU EVER PRAY AGAIN, "GOD, CHANGE THIS, THAT,
SOMETHING ELSE," HOW ABOUT STARTING WITH, "GOD, CHANGE ME."
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: "GOD, CHANGE ME"?
BECAUSE YOU SEE, IF WE CHANGE, OUR CIRCUMSTANCES WON'T BOTHER
US NEARLY AS MUCH AS THEY DO RIGHT NOW.
AND WE CAN'T EXPECT GOD TO CHANGE EVERYBODY ELSE IN
THE WORLD SO WE CAN BE HAPPY.
"OH GOD, MAKE THEM ALL BE LIKE I WANT THEM TO BE SO I DON'T
HAVE ANY PROBLEMS."
WE KNOW GOD USES PEOPLE THAT IRRITATE THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
OUT OF YOU TO CHANGE YOU.
AND HE DOESN'T-- [AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]
JOYCE: AND YOU CAN--YOU CAN RUN AWAY FROM THE ONES YOU GOT
NOW, AND YOU'LL JUST MOVE NEXT DOOR TO SOME MORE OR GO TO WORK
WITH SOME MORE.
I MEAN, YOU'RE JUST NOT GOING TO GET AWAY FROM THEM BECAUSE WE
ALL HAVE ROUGH EDGES, AND GOD FINDS PLENTY OF SANDPAPER OUT
IN THE WORLD.
AMEN?
WHOO, HALLELUJAH.
SO, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN, "ALL OF US AS WITH UNVEILED FACE?"
WHAT, WHAT, WHAT'S WITH THAT?
ALL RIGHT, 2 CORINTHIANS 3, WE'RE GOING TO GO BACK TO
VERSE 13, "NOR [DO WE ACT] LIKE MOSES
WHO PUT A VEIL OVER HIS FACE SO THAT THE ISRAELITES MIGHT NOT
GAZE UPON THE FINISH OF THE VANISHING [SPLENDOR WHICH
HAD BEEN UPON IT]
IN FACT, THEIR MINDS WERE GROWN HARD AND CALLUSED [THEY HAD
BECOME DULL AND HAD LOST THE POWER OF UNDERSTANDING],"
NOW LISTEN TO THIS, "FOR UNTIL THIS PRESENT DAY, WHEN
THE OLD TESTAMENT (THE OLD COVENANT) IS BEING
READ," WHICH IS THE LAW, "A VEIL LIES [ON OUR HEARTS] AND
IS NOT LIFTED [TO REVEAL] THAT IN CHRIST IT HAS BEEN MADE VOID
AND DONE AWAY WITH."
NOW, HERE'S PART OF OUR BIG PROBLEM.
AS NEW TESTAMENT CHRISTIANS, WE CAN'T KEEP ACTING LIKE WE
NEED TO LIVE UNDER THE LAW.
LEGALISM WILL KEEP YOU FROM GROWING.
GOD DOES NOT GIVE YOU A BOATLOAD OF RULES AND REGULATIONS
TO FOLLOW.
HE GIVES YOU THE HOLY SPIRIT TO LIVE ON THE INSIDE OF YOU,
TO GUIDE YOU AND TO PROMPT YOU IN WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU.
SO, HERE'S THE THING.
IN THE OLD TESTAMENT, ALL KINDS OF LAWS, ALL KINDS OF DIETARY
LAWS, ANIMAL SACRIFICE LAWS, HOLIDAY LAWS, FEAST LAWS.
NOW, WHEN WE SAY WE'RE FREE FROM THE LAW, WE'RE NOT FREE FROM
THE MORAL STANDARD THAT GOD LAID DOWN EVEN IN THE OLD COVENANT.
THE MORAL STANDARD IS GOOD FOR ALL TIME.
BUT WE ARE FREE FROM RULES AND REGULATIONS.
AND LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, THERE'S PLENTY OF CHURCHES YOU
CAN GO TO THAT STILL WILL LOAD YOU DOWN WITH RULES
AND REGULATIONS.
AND THERE'S PLENTY OF WELL-MEANING PEOPLE THAT WILL
LOAD YOU DOWN WITH RULES AND REGULATIONS.
YOU CAN EVEN HAVE A GROUP OF FRIENDS THAT ARE ALL INVOLVED
IN A CERTAIN BIBLE STUDY OR A CERTAIN PRAYER GROUP, AND BOY,
IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT, THEY CAN
CERTAINLY MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT DOING
THEIR THING.
AMEN?
OR WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE.
YOU KNOW, ACTUALLY, I MEAN, I WAS SO LEGALISTIC, I DIDN'T
REALLY NEED ANYBODY TO HELP ME.
I COULD JUST DO IT ALL BY MYSELF.
I MEAN, I MADE A LAW OUT OF CLEANING MY HOUSE.
EVERYTHING WAS A LAW, EVERYTHING HAD TO DO BE DONE EVERY DAY.
AND IF I DIDN'T DO IT EVERY DAY, THEN I FELT GUILTY ABOUT IT.
AND SO, WHAT HE'S SAYING HERE IS AS LONG AS YOU READ THIS LIKE
IT'S A LAW, LIKE NOW, "BOY, THIS IS SOMETHING I HAVE TO DO.
AND IF I DON'T DO IT, GOD'S GOING TO BE MAD AT ME."
SEE, HERE'S THE THING, EVEN IF I STAY SELFISH, GOD STILL
LOVES ME.
YEAH, I KNEW, I KNEW YOU'D GO.
OKAY, LOOK, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, THAT GOD WILL NEVER
LOVE YOU ANY MORE THAN HE DOES AT THIS MOMENT RIGHT NOW.
SEE, THAT'S WHAT LEGALISM IS.
LEGALISM THINKS THAT BY BETTER BEHAVIOR, WE CAN EARN MORE
OF GOD'S LOVE.
BUT YOU DON'T EARN ANYTHING FROM GOD BY BETTER BEHAVIOR.
WE DON'T TRY TO BEHAVE BETTER TO GET GOD TO LOVE US.
WE WANT TO BEHAVE BETTER BECAUSE HE DOES LOVE US.
WE WANT TO BEHAVE BETTER BECAUSE OF WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US.
SO, WHEN WE LOOK IN HERE AND WE SEE CHRIST, AND WE SEE THAT IN
HIM THE LAW IS FULFILLED AND THAT HE'S GIVEN US
THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND THAT EVERYTHING THAT
GOD ASKS US TO DO, HE ALSO GIVES US THE POWER TO DO IT.
HE GIVES US THE GRACE TO DO IT.
JOYCE: WELL, WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO RECEIVE CORRECTION
AND CONVICTION FROM GOD WITHOUT LETTING IT CONDEMN US.
THAT'S THE ONLY WAY WE'LL BE ABLE TO GROW
AND SPIRITUALLY MATURE.
TODAY, WE'RE OFFERING YOU A DEVOTIONAL CALLED
"MY TIME WITH GOD."

WITH GOD.
AND ALSO FOUR TEACHINGS ON "HOW TO HEAR FROM GOD."

A MUST DO in Nova-Scotia! (Peggy's Cove) | Alex & MJ - On the GO - Duration: 3:09.
Hey! How's it going?!
I think the last time we spoke was probably in May.
And it's not because we've been lazy!
It's quite the opposite.
We produced more videos than ever.
As you know, this summer we had a big contract with Evasion, which is the biggest French-Canadian
travel TV network.
We produced 93 videos
in a 10-week period.
7 days a week, the two of us only.
We didn't shower much to be honest.
if you haven't seen those videos, by the way, we will put the link in the description box below.
It's free for everybody to watch, so go check it out, it's on a website called Viago.
So now we wanted to talk to you guys because it's been a while!
So we're back on the road, doing a tour called Fliptubeur.
Basically we're giving video production workshops in schools across the country.
The tour just started and we're currently in Halifax, Nova-Scotia
We're at Peggy's cove, which is about 45 minutes from Halifax.
It's pretty, it's very cute.
It's a nice little fishermen's village and we wanted to share the images we shot today with you.
Here's a little sneak-peak:
We just bought our flight tickets for our next destination. On January 10th, we are leaving for...
You want to tell? No, let's not say it right now.
No? - No, not now.
Ok, we'll keep it a secret for now.
But for real, we are going somewhere. We booked it a few days ago.
That's kinda mean tho.
Alright, we'll see you guys next time, ciao!

#Vlog 05 - Figure Skating - Backward Axel (French language - EN subs) - Duration: 16:16.
Hey everyone ! Welcome to my 6th training session !
So, as you see, I am with the company of a lot of girls
I will introduce them to you from the smaller to the higher.
Yup. This is Marie. She's my favorite. obviously.
She is my Fiancé. She'll forgive me calling her Small Girl Really
No, but they can come too. They are your favorite too. (Jeremy : yeah)
We can even hide him...
Here, there's Robyn. Robyn is my favorite hermaphrodite
This is Robyn. I am still waiting to find her a Batman
But... we can say it's not easy to find her a Batman
And there's Lora-Line
Someone just said to me earlier that Lora-Line looks like Carolina Kostner
And I agree.

Here's the Patin'Air Show
Which take place here The 22nd of december In this Rink
At 6.30 pm
And If I come closer again
Here's Solenne. I couldn't introduce her to you in real yet
But, she is on the small picture
Pretty, happy on her locomotive
Solenne, with whom
I share some Double Axel challenge
Who I enjoy her and Whom I give her a kiss
Marie !
Who come back to us
in a surprising way
because last week I said she won't come back for a while
- because she was ill (Jeremy) - I survived (Marie) - She survived... (Jeremy)
And she's with us. I am so happy. And she has something to give to me.
Schokobons !
It's Schokobons
it's been a few weeks I waited for them. And they're here !
Now, we will have to count how many Double Axel I did on the 2nd and 3rd training sessions
Which I invite you to watch And....
We'll count the double Axel
and I will have the equal schokobon number to the succeed double Axel on these 2 sessions
So next week
There won't some succeed Double Axel because He'll have schokobon in his stomac
Anyway, It's not the goal anymore
I will tell you my new goal Later
I discover something funny yesterday
I want to do it
That's the thing I showed you by video
Marie has chosen the pleasure packet, for me
There's a lot of Schokobon
But, in fact, I didn't put a lot of Double Axel in my videos
So I have right to have 8 schokobon
I am so happy
Counting...
.... 8 ! 8 schokobon !
There are still some for me !
We'll go on a split jump with a double rotation jump after
I don't know which one yet
They are mean with me They are mean with me
I will probably do it there
Fine !
- Calm down ! (Jeremy) - Ninja turtle ! (Marie)
Let me go ! what time is it ?
10.14 am it 11.14 am on the clock but we don't care.
I'm not warmed...
We'll try again
try it again !
Right, Robyn Explain to us
How you can make me Double Axel
because I did 2-3 tentatives in fact
but not really successful. I am on Double Axel.
And right now, I just succeed one's. So Explain
- How you make me succeed on a Double Axel (Jeremy) - I said to him he was awful (Robyn)
I said "Hey"
"5 training sessions and no Double Axel. It's short !"
So yeah. An other way than the Schokobon
Is to get me mad.
If you start to ruffle my feathers a bit
Normally, I answer back.
Girls, I am on Double Axel Jump
What do you say ?
- Hurry Up ! (Robyn) - Hurry Up and ? (Jeremy)
- We love you (Marie) - We love you, right ! (Jeremy)
We love you, hurry up !
That's how people treat me
to do a Double Axel
MARIE-PIERRE ! COME BACK !
It was here !
Thanks to Robyn for the "Hurry Up" Thanks to Marie for the "We Love You"
But Marie-Pierre, Please I need You I want you to be kind to me
Because my friends, here
They are horrible
Yeah !
This ! it's called "FRIENDS"
It's called "FRIENDS"
Thanks for your friendship !
No, seriously I Love them
But it's awkward because, today There's absolutely everyone.
Kinda a family rendez-vous.
- You abandoned me ! (Marie) - There is Marie (Jeremy)
Next, there's Alban who came back
Really, it's amazing because I didn't expect so much
people today I know
- It's the oldie's meeting (Marie) - yup (Jeremy)
I will do a Double Axel
But Solenne !
I'm still waiting for your Double Axel
I'm waiting, I'm waiting I want to see them
Plus, seriously Solenne has really beautiful Double Axel
Seeing her during the Last tour Seeing her... Because Solenne...
I know here since
she's young Since we are young Because we did competitions together
We did our 6 minutes Warm-Up together
That's why
we mistreat each other
Because each, when someone failed the other said "ah you are a loser ! you are a loser"
but we love each other Like I said on the previous video
We love each other So I am going to a Double Axel
it's for you Solenne
It was a bit far-fetched, but it was up and full rotated
So, Solenne I am waiting for yours !
Now I will go On something new
for me
We'll go... I'll go, better,
on the "Baxel Axel"
right, I will explain to you what is the Baxel Axel
I discovered it On Instagram, in fact
On a video from a American skater
who's called emmm Ryan Bradley
I couldn't find the name Ryan Bradley
I put the link... better... I put his Instagram's link
In the description so you can see the Baxel Axel
So The Baxel Axel
Is We can say
The contraction of the word Backward Axel
So It's a reverse Axel, then a normal Axel
It looks like a mirror effect
It's like a Loop jump with 1 and Half revolution of rotation landed forward
then an Axel
It gives some amazing sensations it's weird
As skaters, we aren't really used to land forward
Because As you see If I get up a leg
We have spike, Like small teeth
So, if we land forward We quickly arrive on the spikes.
Then we arrive on our teeth on the ice
But it's the challenge
And I I succeed it Everyone in the company has to do it too
It's the new Jeje Challenge
It will succeed I still have one session maybe two before
the rehearsals and then, we'll have... 10/12 days
rehearsals
So it will be there i will be able to do it
- You will success (Lora-Line) - but for the others ... (Jeremy)
Speaking about Solenne Ponpon
Anaïs
Who skaters... skaters have we ? Don't know...
Everyone we will have
who do skate... "skate" with double rotation and triple rotation jumps
have to try the Baxel Axel
I swear you it's amazing
when we are doing it
Baxel is better
but I have issues to do the Axel after
He succeed !
I'll go back on A Baxel Axel
- I need to try it with more speed (Jeremy) - behind, we have Robyn's Double Salchow (Marie)
Yeaaaah !
Right i'll stop the Baxel Axel Session
I will try it again Next week I will try it again on rehearsals
Because it could be something very cool
to do in a ballet Like...
to go... then BOOM Let's go... BOOM Baxel Axel
It's funny
the ending The ending needs some works
Laura, Look my new partner
This is my B.F.F. Best Friend Forever
She will replace you for the lift
that's it But I still like you Laura
Seriously I still like you
And you'll see I will send you all the vlogs of the tour
just you so you can follow us
And I miss you
I will go now on spins
In fact I am already on spins with the girls
girls are on spins too Which spin do you do ?
Back sit
She does the Back Sit the Flying Back Sit
You ?
I don't Know
She don't do... yup... Go out !
- I don't know (Robyn) - GET OUT ! (Jeremy)
She does Sit Side Okay
And me, I will do I will work again on the Back Deathdrop Spin
Because I do flying Sit
with death drop started forward And I would like to work on the
Back side entrance
(Marie sings Babar's anime song)
(Sing)
So right now i will work with Marie
We have to deal to do a Flying Sit Spin
together
In mirror Together
With the jump together
We'll work on
Right Girls want to do an spiral chain
Yup... At first, I wanted to join them
then I saw their first trial and I said to me "I don't really want to
be
associated to this awful, bad looking thing"
which we'll see, there
yup... and here, it's prettier
but I won't be associated to THIS
Right The session is about to end for me
We did very no sense stuff sometimes...
Sometimes ? (Marie and Robyn)
- When were we serious should be the question instead (Marie)
but...
But, comparing to the other sessions
it was more
laborious happy
more chaotic more chaotic speaking about
the stuff progression
I started with double jumps I did double jumps which I didn't
recorded I did some Double Axel i went back on Simple Axel
To do Baxel Axel I still send you on
Ryan Bradley's video
who does this Baxel Axel
So... He does it 1000 times better than me for sure
but
We'll improve And I'll try to make
all the
cast who jump to do it
as figure skater
because we don't only have figure skaters in the company
I wanted to go on Triple Rotation Jumps
I didn't go
After 2 years without trying only one's
it was a bit harsh
We went on spins together
She looks like a duck ! (Robyn)
We went on spins together
She showed us an amazing Sit Side
She did some beautiful ... entrances...
- Entances... (Robyn) - three turn series entrance (Jeremy)
- A three turn series entrance with a camel spin next (Jeremy)
Like I do
It's amazing i feel so proud
that people
take me as inspiration...
With the Evil Laugh HAHAHA (Marie)
With the laugh... Everyone follow me !!!
and both... We did ou little
Flying sit spin landed on the same foot
I am so proud to do it with my Fiancé
She's my favorite. Even I like you too
You are my favorites
But you can't say it to her Because she'll be jealous...
and then she will be mad at me
And now I will try on
the back death drop spin
Because i know how to do it forward Now I have to work the backward one
It will be The Next goal for the next session
which will be the second last one or the last one
It will depends on when I will go, the 12th (of November)
Right I say to you "See you Next week" with whom...
I don't know... Maybe the dudes here
I don't know Maybe with Lucas We'll see
But See you next week
We'll give you some kisses

JCS chiefs of S. Korea, U.S., Japan urge N. Korea to cease provocations - Duration: 0:50.
The top military brass of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan held a three-way meeting Sunday
in Hawaii... to discuss ways to counter North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.
At the meeting were the chairmen of the three countries' joint chiefs of staff.
Hosted by General Joseph Dunford, they exchanged views on the long-range ballistic missiles
that North Korea launched over Japan an into its territorial waters... and teh regime's
nuclear tests.
They also urged North Korea to refrain from actions that undermine peace and security
in the region and in the international community.
General Dunford reaffirmed his country's "ironclad commitment" to providing full extended deterrence
to defend its allies from North Korean threats.
The three agreed to cooperate to the maximum extent... expecially in exchanges of information
and their military preparedness.

Tinu Cornish interviews Profesor Aneez Esmail #BHM2017 - Duration: 33:44.
hello my name is Tinu Cornish and I am senior training and learning adviser for
ECU. Today we're going to be talking to and hearing from Professor Aneez Esmail
about the Race Equality Charter and also the work force race equality standard,
and academia and the promotion of race equality
My name is Aneez Esmail I'm a professor of general practice currently working in
the University of Manchester where I've been really for the last 25 years
until about four years ago I was in charge of the whole area around social
responsibility which included race equality so we're a bit unusual in
Manchester in that we were one of the first institutions to sort of make this
a very important part of what we were trying to do and I think I was probably
the first person working in senior management who had responsibility for
equality and diversity. And I also know that you have had a major role to play in
terms of setting up the workforce race equality standard that's been rolled out
across the NHS Yes I worked here with my colleague Roger Clyne to persuade the
chief executive of the NHS Simon Stephens that this is something that the NHS
really had to take on board because we we were able to show that although the
NHS and it is the largest employer in the UK that's why it's so important and
makes significant progress around race equality it was moving backwards
and this was a worry to lots of people really so the point about the
race equality standard was unusually it had said that we are now going to
mandate certain standards and what does that mean for the NHS and I felt very
strongly about this you see, put it into context I said it's a largest employer but nearly
a third of its workforce so I'm usually it has a much higher proportion of ethnic
minorities working in it than other public institutions
why because ethnic minorities are overrepresented for example in the medical
professions pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, so it's a big employer for minorities
and more importantly skilled ethnic
minorities and yet when you look at the NHS you see very few people at the
senior levels and in a way mimics the higher education sector so you know
I think that they might be what two Vice-chancellors or they call themselves
presidents now who are ethnic minorities and this is quite incredible really you look
at the country like the UK when 12 percent of its population are ethnic
minorities you look at areas like the NHS where a third of the doctors are
ethnic minorities and then you look at the university sector and you can say
that out of 192 I don't know how many universities you have two ethnic minority and
usually in very small colleges and not only look at the presidents but look at
the level below that at the pro vice-chancellors all the vice-presidents
and again that's very very few and it doesn't at all reflect the number of
people in academia say if you take the number of people who are lecturers for
example which is not a bad one to look at so how many people are making
academia as their career choice and you'll find it's probably about 17 to 20
percent who are ethnic minorities yet look at the top and it's nowhere near that
proportion I mean I always used to joke in Manchester as a professor that that say
30 percent of staff in the NHS are doctors like me you look at university
professors it's three percent ok so and then I always used to enjoy it
it's quite a privileged position to be sometimes who would talk about a
privilege of three percent but you know when you have these important functions
I always got on the top table because there's one of me so a bit
you know but that's a reality of it and so it shows you the
mountain we had to climb really and what we said to to Simon Stephens in the NHS
was look he says that it just no longer is acceptable that this is going to be allowed
to continue because what is the impact of something like that?
and the impact is this is that people in the end say that why should I bother why
should I excel individually because I'll never be recognised and we're all human
beings we want recognition and that so that's a big turn-off I'm not saying
we all want to be administrators but the way universities work in a hierarchy you
move up and as you move up that's when you get the position and the power and the
respect and that's what people want frequently and and you don't get that
you see so it's important from that point of view so in a way you
don't recognise the potential of your staff if you don't acknowledge them and
people see that secondly the universities like to make a big deal of
the fact that they're world-class institutions you know well quite frankly
the world is not white and if people want to come and work here and I know
this from my colleagues who work in India who work in America they look at
your body and say well you know why should I bother to go there and I do it
myself I look at institutions and I think well you know do they recognise
ethnic minorities in senior positions and when they do I look at it more
positively and actually I wouldn't mind working there because I can see
that when an institution is able to appoint senior people in a senior
management position who are ethinic minorities it does you look at it and you say actually I
could get there as well then and when it's the opposite you think well
I'm not going to bother and I think that so as well as institutions without a
doubt in this international market people will look at equality in a very
different way if you can show that you actually practice it and then of
course it reflects how well you nurture your staff you know if you nurture your
staff they will rise up and you need to be able to show that so again it's a good
selling point in terms of workforce development, professional development
that to say look come here and this was actually the big sell in Manchester the
person who appointed me to my role Alan Gilbert who sadly died about four years
ago you know it used to say this is that I want Manchester to be a world-class
institution I want to attract the best people here
and in order to do that I need to be able to show that that we will nurture
all talent from wherever in the world and whoever you are and that was a huge
selling point and it can be for the university
they understand this. People want to feel that if they come they're going
to be able to flourish they're going to be able to rise to their full potential.
So I I think like the workforce race equality standard the Race Equality Charter
really starts by asking institutions to look at data so they can identify where
BME staff and students aren't progressing where there are key issues that they need to
prioritise addressing but I also think there's some fundamental differences
between the two schemes one of which is this issue of the workforce race
equality scheme is not a voluntary scheme like the REC it's mandatory
can you say why you decided to go down that route and why you feel it's so important
it's to do with really where we are at the moment in terms of race equality
well you can to look at equality generally okay so let me give you an
example I have been working in academia now for 25 years and there's no doubt
that progress has been made so if I look at the number of Black professors like
me who are appointed the numbers have gone up there's many more people who are
appearing in media who are Black, historians, professors people like that
so clearly progress has been made I can't sit back and say we've made no progress okay
the reality it is still not sufficient okay and this applies to gender equality as well
you know we turn around and say oh fantastic you know 20 percent of
professors are women now in Manchester well actually it should be 40 percent
so let's not let's not say that things are fantastic and
everything's gonna be alright and quite frankly I don't think it is acceptable to
wait another 20 years so the challenge is how do we get in a much faster
pace of development because we are living in a world which demands things
change quickly and people are not prepared to wait certainly my children
why should they wait 20 years before things change
so they can become a professor like me so the challenge is how do we do this
and it must depend on the organisation you see the NHS is a very monolithic
organisation it is top-down control and in those situations if NHS
England says something on the whole it happens so you have that
situation and we went for mandate and made things mandatory because we had
been trying lots of initiatives and they start and then the government changes or
austerity happens and it goes on the backburner
and this is you know stop start stop start so it's not that
there's no commitment but how do you ensure that things change and continue
to change and continue to progress and we came to the conclusion and this was an
academic conclusion based on reviewing the literature where we got too what was
the example of other countries and we realised certain things then firstly no
matter how much you do around training and around things like unconscious bias
training and other things policy, procedures you only get so far if you
want to make that leap beyond the sort of baseline you have to do
something different and I know one of the things that really influenced me in
convincing Simon Stephens about what we should do was actually based on an
example that was used in higher education when Dame Sally Davies the chief
medical officer said that that in future they were going to use the the two
billion pounds a year annual funding that they give to the NHS for doing
research which is primarily carried out in academic institutions in
order to even apply for a grant you had to prove that you are actually
making progress around gender equality because you know the reality is
that it comes back to the same argument we don't get the talent we need if you
deny half the workforce the opportunities alright so if you want
the best by medicine, the best technology, the best physiology
you need to encourage everyone else and if women are systemically discriminated
against you're not going to get the best so she made that made the fair point
which interestingly was signed off by ministers in the last coalition
government they said we as a public institution give away two billion a year, two
billion pounds a year in research funding and surely we can demand and ask
certain things, the simple thing was is is that we want evidence it
wasn't just we want policy, we want evidence that you actually can make sure
that women in your organisations can rise to the top and what is that
evidence based on? It's based on looking at things like outcomes from improvement
promotions processes all the things that someone like me has been arguing for for
a long long time but this time they were going to attach real money to it and
what then Dame Sally said was you can't even apply for funding if you don't get
a basic minimum requirement and they chose the Athena SWAN Charter
which I know the Race Equality Charter is closely modelled on and what does the
the Athena Swan Charter do? It is different in that it actually emphasises is
outcomes it's no good saying I have best policies in the world, it is no good
saying that we really think it's important that we have senior
management buy-in to it. The fundamental thing that the Athena SWAN
did was to say that you only get the highest achievement when you show a
change in outcomes. So we want to see the change in women getting to the senior
management, to promotion, to recruitment in all those things and I think that the
Race Equality Charter is good in that respect as well and and I use my
institution as an example and I said to you that we were the first institution that
appointed a senior academic as a lead for equality and diversity, a Russell Group
institution in fact and and we did a lot of stuff around policy and procedures
and you know I mean I was given a huge amount of power and influence to
look at many many areas but in the end I think it's right that I should be judged
on outcomes and not just on the things that we're
putting in place and the reality is that I consider Manchester one of the
leading institutions in terms of what it is trying to do around race equality and
gender equality and yet we can only achieve a Bronze in race and that's
quite right but in the end we should be judged on our outcomes we've
achieved Athena Silver status because we're doing a lot better around
women but you know we've been doing issues around gender equality for a lot
longer so I think it's right and I think that you know it's important that that
institutions are judged and that they're judged with high standards and it's
not just about procedures and policies and training it's about in the end on
what you achieve through outcomes. Yes, that's right so for a Bronze you can
show that you've got a firm foundation you've got a really good action plan but
you're not going to get Silver unless you can actually demonstrate that that
plan has been rolled out and and it's actually leading to impact, outcomes
as you were suggesting. At the present we haven't got a strong stick we
haven't got such a clear-cut business case as was provided by Sally Davies so
if you were talking to senior managers in academia what would you say
to them is in it for them? What are they are going to get out of it?
you've talked about it being part of what you need to be a world-class
university but what would you suggest are the other gains for them of
actually becoming an inclusive organisation through implementing
something like the Race Equality Charter? I mean look the business case
I think no one would would would question anymore you can't because it's
to do with your workforce if you look at universities you know 60/70 percent of
our income spend on the stock it is our most important resource of all and
and all we're about we are trying to get out the best research, the best
teaching, the best learning environment and that can only come from a student
body which is diverse that's a given and and I know the Race Equality Charter
doesn't always cover that but it might cover processes around how we select
We definitely cover students. Well that's right well that's good but the staff
and let's talk about staff are the most important resource you have and it
just is a no-brainer in my mind that you know if you're going to succeed
as an institution then you have to be able to show that that all your
talent can can can be supported and can achieve its ambitions that the staff can
reach the ambitions and in order to do that you need to be very very aware
of issues around diversity and I think it's you know people sort of
underestimate the value but you know look in the end as an academic
researcher I want recognition for what I do I know I have to do my part, I have to
get the grants, I have to write the papers and so on but I also want
something back again for each you know I'm a human being like anyone outside I
like the fact that I get credit I like the fact that people look to me and
quote my research and so on and in a way my institution my employer needs to
acknowledge that and recognise that because if I'm not recognised then
in the end it just wears me down and I just say well why should I bother I
watch it and I see that so often really and people underestimate this and I
see because I used to be in a senior management role and people used to come
and talk to me about and say you know oh it's all very well it means you doing
all these things but look we still aren't changing look what happened here
you know look this person is really good why did they get promoted you know look
at that department is all White managers and these things have an impact and I
think one of the problems is that senior managers sometimes they may you
know I say this to people we work in higher education and we're all very
clever people. Yes. No, it's true. So you know
you can't say that people don't recognise the importance of this but what
what they don't frequently acknowledge is actually the
hurdles that they have to overcome in order to get there because they sort of
have this notion that well if you're clever you'll get there well it's not
the case. It's not the case because there are enough clever people from all
walks of life and I just refuse to accept that we don't have the women and
the ethnic minorities who can't achieve the top positions and so what is holding
them back unfortunately are these barriers and we put names to them and
they're called inequality, they're called discrimination, they're called racism, they're
called sexism. These are the things that hold people back and we have to
acknowledge that and so the challenge is how we're going to fight
that and I don't mind when people want to use words like racism or sexism or
genuine inequality because that is the lived experience of people and let's
acknowledge that it's not a problem for the women that they don't get promoted
it's a problem of the institution, it's not my problem that I don't get promoted yes I
know if I'm not doing my work then fine but you know the reality is that I
never see or very rarely I won't say never, in medicine we say never say never but
I very rarely see people not succeeding when they have not been
nurtured and supported and given the means to excel that is a reality and
that's what I'm going to try and do. So one of the challenges I think we face is
actually getting the majority group the mainstream to actually acknowledge that
these issues and problems are also their problems and so over the past year we've
been trying to, ECU has been rolling out as a different approach to race equality
training we're actually bringing in the notion of
white privilege and actually
not not lecturing people not talking at people but setting up
experiencial exercises so people can in their gut start to feel how they may
have been racially advantaged and that that's helping people to take a
different perspective on this and take some ownership so I don't know whether
how to improve race equality training or successful race equality training it's
something that you have been involved with or encountered or have a view on
it'd be interesting to hear. So look I think I think of course the reality
there is no one answer to any of this in a so
so if you ask me about race equality training it's come a long way
so when I first started it I remember Manchester lost a signature race
equality case you know a Black professor successfully, well he wasn't a professor
then he took the university to an industrial tribunal and it Manchester
was found to discriminate against him it was over 15 years ago now
they're very very important so of course you know Manchester was told that you
can no longer turnaround and say well you know we didn't know or we didn't you
know didn't understand was so the response was given very firmly back to
Manchester and what they did is they made all their staff undergo race equality
training and it was a terrible thing, people learned about it
but you know that's what we understood at that time and as far
as university was concerned just do it and then you can't complain that you
didn't know all right but of course we've got much better at doing that now
so the training is much better I've used examples where we've used actors and
role play with senior managers, very effective, so I think we've learned a lot
more about that you know, we work together with psychologists with them
trainers and others to help us work out how best to so it's an important
component but it's not the only component and similarly I think that the
acknowledgement of unconscious bias training and understanding the issue of
privilege is important so I think that's another component which frequently we
didn't talk enough about and that's important I remember going to a
training that was organised in Manchester and I actually got someone from the
senior civil service to talk to us because they had done some work
around this in the in the late 90s and she pointed out that that was quite an
eye-opener for the senior managers you know suddenly began to understand you
know their privilege in a sense and unconscious bias and how it worked and
she said was transformative so I I do see its value but the third
component of it I said training you can't ignore it's there but it won't
make the big leap that you want unconscious bias training is important
but again it won't make the leap you want but I think the thing that will
make the leap is actually looking at outcomes and I give the example once
again of the National Institute of Health Research and what they did with
in Athena SWAN you see the point was is that you won't even get a look in on applying
for this funding and as you can show you improve things my argument is this in
terms of higher education we don't have this monolithic NHS structure where the
chief executive says something and tomorrow everyone will be following
on the whole what happens, or the minister sneezes and everyone you know
stands to attention at the other end. We wish. So universities pride
themselves on being autonomous although their public institution the point
is that they get a huge amount of public funding alright and the research
council's are a big funder of research universities and I think quite frankly
in this day and age it is about time that they use the muscle they have to
demand certain things so it's interesting that if the NIH which
gives away two billion pounds of research funding and it's found that it works no
one's complained and said how awful it is and they can't do their research simply
because you're asking me to prove that I can actually you know support women
academics and women researchers in achieving their aims they will do
it they will do it now aright you know. Yet have the research council's
done it? No they're still talking about it academia loves talking about it you
know and my argument is that the research council's give billions of
pounds of research funding every year to public institutions it's public money
the public has a right to say to demand that the people who receive that
actually fulfill some basic requirements and that's where I think that has to happen
in higher education so do all those things you know and of course there I
wouldn't say they're easy but in a way we can we can do something about
that quite quickly the outcomes you know we'll sit
down and then you know all these senior academics will turn around and go oh you
know well I'm not sure, oh it's difficult and it's not really
like that and the reason is of course they don't like it because it means
something they'll sit and go to training and they'll learn about it you
know but in the end when they're grant will depend on whether they can show
that their institution is fulfilling some basic requirements and that's what they
are that basic requirements. What are we saying? Look at Manchester when we work
making the change we said that you know when we reviewed annually promotions
rounds we would look and say well why were no women promoted that year in our faculty
what's wrong with asking that question you know and we look at the
ethnic minority data. I mean look you have 20 ethnic minority
senior lecturers in that department so why was not a single one brought forward
and you know what it's not only this year you did for last three years
so that that's reasonable to ask and of course you know when you ask those
questions people went back and said ah you know yeah actually she was very good
but you know what happened is you know we didn't we didn't give her the chance
to do X, Y, Z and said let's make sure that happens
and you know when you focus your mind as my mentor Alan Gilbert used to say
ask the questions and it's a very powerful way of doing it ask the
questions and say why not? And then you go back and you say and if it happens
the second time around you say well actually next year I'm not going to give
you a pay rise if you don't do something about it and does that concentrate minds
Yes that certainly motivates. So that people's pay
is related to their diversity outcomes. When he sits down with his senior management team he would ask
them you know well we said we're gonna do this so what's happening now.
Now Manchester doesn't have performance related pay
no one in academia admits to that but they have performance management okay at
senior levels and they will sit down with their with their president or their
vice-president if they're a head of department
and that is part of our judgment and quite rightly so you know and it happens so
we review our data and and year-on-year targets are set for senior managers and
one of those must be an equality target because that's where you make progress I
mean I think one of the the strengths of the Race Equality Charter for academia
is that actually data is their bread and butter and what we are saying is use
your own data to examine your bias blind spots to help you identify where things
are going wrong and develop some hypothesis about what's causing the
issues or the blockages and then do something about it, doing something about it is
the critical thing, you know. It builds on their strengths.
You know what the data it's like the NHS you know it's just stunning
actually that that they collect a huge amount of data but you know what they've
never looked at it know. This is what the WRES does it says you don't need to do anymore work
but here's your data. Did you know? Maybe they look at it and say we never
knew that and their boards will suddenly come and say you know why is
that, this is where to get the data from sitting on your website you know in the
stuff you collect and the same thing applies to universities you know
HESA makes us collect tons and tons of data and do we use it as a management
tool and the answer is no we don't and you know so this is not more work for people
it's actually saying we have it now use your brains and analyze it and actually
people like the ECU help them tremendously in understanding it and
then do something about it and that's the change that we have to have to make
it's not more work for now they've been collecting this data since 1990s it's so
much you know I mean so much. One of my early pieces of work was in 1993
and we actually asked the equivalent of the medical school councils then can we
have the data for medical school admissions and you know what they said
to us no you can't have it, why because it's private I said I beg your pardon
why do you collect it I mean the long and short of it is we forced them to
give us the data and then we analysed it by who gets to medical school and we showed
them that you know not only ethnic minorities face huge disadvantage but certain
groups of ethnic minorities are very disadvantaged and in fairness to
them they began by looking at the data and said actually we do admit that we
have you know and it's complicated but you know it's not that
we lack the analytical power to do this we really we do have that where we do is
lack the will to make the change that makes difference. So this is one of the
areas that's up for discussion at the moment is bringing in an adaptive
version of the Race Equality Charter for medical schools and allied health
professionals in particular to try it because there's a feeling that
progress hasn't been made and that some of the same issues that BME medical
staff and so on were experiencing when you're first looking at the data there's
still experiencing now and that change hasn't hasn't happened.
But you see this is interesting you see so if you look at, let's look at the you
talk about the American school so let me use a wide definition of so I'm including
nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, physiotherapy and some of the others and what you find is a bit
like the NHS you know there's huge differences within the different bodies so
it's quite fascinating people will be surprised to know that that ambulance
trusts in the NHS are virtually all white male institutions you know and
they have a terrible record on equality and race discrimination alright
so even within the NHS there are pockets, we talked about senior
manager. So lets look at medical schools so what's interesting about that
if you look at Manchester nearly 40 percent of graduates, people graduating are
ethnic minorities so you could look at that and say sort it yes what's the big
deal, dentistry is 60 percent, you look at pharmacy it might be 70 percent are ethnic
minorities. You know when I tell you that 12 percent of the population are ethnic
minority you think wow isn't that fantastic but you've got to go beyond
that now you got to say alright so let's look at who's going into clinical
academic teaching in higher education and suddenly you'll find that the
numbers drop considerably so why is that a problem?
How many PhDs are coming out of nursing and medicine and that's
really important and what you're finding is that people don't
choose academic career paths, ask them why, they say why should I bother
I know I can never be a professor where the professors to show me?
People are making these judgments all the time right so you need to
look at that and I think that the point about medicine broadly, so medical
schools who cover all these different specialisms is they're
quite right to look at it you know because in a way it's important that society not
only reflects the people we serve but also we measure that talent you know.
Society wants the best doctors they want the best doctors to go into
academic teaching and learning and research and and we need to show that we
can do that and I've seen wonderful examples in the United States where they
have a lot more PhDs coming from ethnic minorities they have programs defined
and we don't have them here we don't have them here. Can you give me an
example? Well so for example I spent a year as a visiting fellow at Harvard in
the United States in the late 90s and I went to a program at Harvard organised
funded from a private foundation but it was to encourage African
Americans and Native Americans to go into the PhD studies so what they would
do is that they would not only just provide the funding but they would
say to medical schools like Harvard you identify early on
the people who you think can progress to the next stage what do they need
typically they need a Masters in order to do that so look you identify the
people and we will fund the Masters program to get PhD programs
they're very very competitive but we recognise not enough Black so we will
help fund that you provide the training and it's working it's
working. Now look at the news now look at the local news you will see a
range on all the channels how did that come about just because I've had these
absolutely you had these programs, internships, mentoring and you're seeing that effect
now it didn't happen because people just sat there and said oh it's terrible
okay so there was a there was a policy that actually tended to do that. I
remember talking to the BBC when I was doing my research on it and they said
you know what we had no sound engineers who were women and people
said well what do women know about sound engineering you know. I'm sat in a
room where three women are filming me and what I'm talking about.
The point is isn't it this is simply a reflection of practices that
just perpetuate themselves so the BBC had a program to train women sound
engineers and you know what whenever I do filming with the BBC now frequently
they'll be a woman there that's the sound engineer and if that didn't come about
again by just you know rubbing their chins and saying oh it's not possible so you
know we can't turn around say that oh well Black people don't want to do PhDs.
Why? I have two sons who want to do PhDs you know so it's just a
nonsense they have the same aspirations as anyone else. In fact
often more aspiration. More aspiration and it isn't always fulfilled you
the end result is that this country is losing out on talent because of that.

Visiting Birmingham Day 1 | andthenIfellinlove Tales & Travels - Duration: 17:20.
Good morning. Good morning. How are you lovely people doing? And welcome to my travel vlog to
Birmingham. I'm going to go ahead and visit a friend of mine who is living with her
boyfriend in Birmingham right now, and I'm going to be spending three days
there. But first I have to figure out where I have to go.
I want to take the time to soak in an appreciate what happens.
So... There we go. You can see that correctly. The steering wheel is on the opposite
side guys. Which means we're in England. We're in Birmingham. Wait how do the
people in the plane say it. Birmingham. Is that correctly? - Birmingham.
Birmingham - Brum. - There we go. Brum? Is that like a nickname for it? - Exactly.
Or slang? - Both. - That's cool. Well, now I learned something guys. So, my flight went well and
now I'm still trying to get used to the fact that we are driving on the left
side of the road. But the Birmingham experience / adventure has started
Hello sir!
Hey Jamie. - Hey!
Yum! I bet you wish you can grab this and eat it, don't cha? We are eating MonChou
pie. Hello everyone. And I am in love with this yard. It looks so pretty,
but you already have seen that because I will probably edit that beautiful
footage with some lovely music. Yeah this is great.
Thank you guys again. Oh by the way, for those of you that are like: okay well
you're just sitting here with random people
This is Jamie. Jamie and I went to high school together. And this her boyfriend
Guido. - Hello. - So that's where I'll be staying.
Het gets delicious food.
He's also very slow.
A bridge.
I like the elephant the most.
yeah
Now we are driving through Mosewey? - Moseley. - Moseley. Wow, I have a fish brain I
guess right now because I was just told what it was called. Yeah, they had cute
little houses that we passed which I've already filmed. We are on our way to
Birmingham City or would you call it downtown? Or do you not call it downtown
here in UK. - No no just a city center. - City center. Okay city center. JK, it's not
downtown. But we're in a traffic jam. My first British traffic jam. Yay! Or is it
just a light. It could also just be a light. Oh, no we're driving. Yay.
So we are going to TK maxx, not TJ maxx like we have in the US, but a TK maxx and
everything's in pounds, and I totally want another purse when I see this
TK Maxx was really lovely to us, because Jamie got a new purse, and I got a super
duper soft t-shirt. Oh wait, you have to press this.
Wait. We will wait and also I have to remember to look the opposite way which
will be something I still have to get used to
or you could just cross yeah. That's true.
Okay, nevermind.
Maybe we should just cross as well? - Yeah? - Okay, yeah
I find it so weird that I have to look the opposite way!
Hey, wait, this guy is doing a circle!
Oh wait, they're not even coming from this way, so I don't know why I'm looking that way.
What was the name of this shopping
The Bullring. - The Bullring. Oh wait, it says it right there. The Bullring. Okay
Let's shop till we drop.
Boots! This will be the first time ever entering a Boots store. No joke.
It's called Zoella Beauty. Beauty.
Where is it?
We're still searching guys. Still searching. Don't know where it's at.
Boots, you were not too kind to me. You didn't have it. But that's okay.
Because now we're going to Debenhams.
And apparently they do sell it there. So Oasis, I learned, is a lovely brand, and I've accidentally got some stuff in my hands.
Hey, there's make-up, so I bet we find Zoella Beauty there.
I splurged on getting myself some new shoes.
Guess what? I found it at Superdrug. Oh yeah! Now I'm going to smell it.
Eet smakelijk! - Eet smakelijk!
We just went to New Look, and something we've noticed is that we walk the non-Brittish way.
Like...
most people are just walking on the left side of the whatever lane we are on.
And we just walk on the right side.
Jamie is sitting over here waiting. I'll be trying on some stuff soon. But holy
cow, Oasis is a lovely store. I'm going to try some stuff on.
Behind me, there's an actual bear. Well, not a real bear obviously. It's an arts bear and
I wanted to film it for y'all, but a blurry background will do, because there
were kids walking up there, and I can't really film them you know. That's not
really polite. Okay, so tomorrow we're gonna have a high tea.
Yeah. - And hey look at what we're doing. We're being British. We're walking on the left
side instead of the right for once. There is the bull or the Bullring shopping mall and
there's another bear. I think I'm just gonna give up on thinking not to film
people, because it's really crowded here and, Jamie said that tomorrow is supposed
to be even worse. So yeah, another little bear.
Another funny looking bear.
Oh, wow. This is cool.
John Lewis. We are at another shopping mall, called John Lewis, I believe at Grand Central, the train station.
And look what we found. We found another bear.
A little fluffy one.
What are you doing? - Just looking for the trains.
If we want to go home some day.
Some day.
For those of you that didn't know, I love cats,
and look what we found. It's a flippin kitty teapot. What! And a... egg cup. And another
mug. And what is this for cute stuff? A wallet?
I can't believe there's an actual cereal cafe. Like how cool is that? There's a place
you could just eat cereal at. Jamie and I are at Rebus right now, and oh my gosh,
we are about to try a miracle of ice cream.
I'm so excited. Like they don't have any kind of regular kind of ice cream.
It's like unicorn version of an ice cream cone.
We went for a cone. You pick what you want on top of it. We added candy floss, and then you add one extra
topping, and I picked popping candy as well as Jamie. I'm so
stoked
Oh my gosh, this is like the unicorn of all ice
cream cones I've ever had in my life. Let's take a picture
So, right now we're at Victoria Square. I seriously had to ask Jamie a second ago what it was called again.
Anywho, there's an event going on...
...right now, which I think is quite fun. Like, people are dancing...
Are all happy...
This is so cool.
I believe it's to represent Jamaican people if I understood correctly.
That's so cool.
Oh my goodness.
Okay sign... I guess I have to follow the British ways now. Okay, so over there
there's a library I was told by Jamie. Up there, that modern-looking
building. I found another bear. - Shall we go this way? - Oh, we are going this way?
Yes. - Okay... Look! Hello Mr. Bear. This one has an elephant
Guess what? After making too big of a circle and walking and viewing
everything of Birmingham that we possibly could
we found the restaurant we're gonna have dinner at.
Cheers! To a good evening. And days. And days, indeed.
It looks deliciously. - Right? - Really!
I'm opening it. This is the bread you have.
And under it is this bread.
Hello world. So a couple of hours later, it's 10:00 p.m. at night, and a party is
still going on. I believe this is the Jamaican party, or maybe it's just a
club. I've no idea to be honest. Anywho, I am ridiculously filled with
delicious foods, and even brought some with me as you can see oh yeah
but Jamie how would you rate this food experience. - It was really good
Would you recommend this restaurant? - Yeah. - Same for me. Heck yes, this restaurant was
amazing, but I'm like so full. It's hard to vlog and walk and breathe like oh my
gosh way too much, but it was delicious. Oh man. Okay so now we're walking around
in Birmingham at nighttime. And at least we're walking downward.
So we have this many screens staring at us, and none of them makes sense to where we have to
take a train and go to get home. I don't understand.
What? - It seems like that's closed.
Yes. - It's darker. - Yes, that's probably closed when they're cleaning.
Moore Street Station is where we'll be taking a train.
And a guy walked up to us, because we apparently looked clueless. We got
help. Thank goodness.
Lovely people, what I learned about the
British... Gosh you guys, I'm speaking to the British now if I have any British
followers hello. Holy cow, how the heck do you think that it's hot enough to not
wear a jacket. Like I'm quite chilly,
"Hey darling." - so I definitely want to wear a jacket, but... - "I want to wear a jacket too."
Oh, that's lovely, but you're not wearing one.
... but all these people are just wearing skirts and dresses and tank tops and that's
ridiculous. It's so freezing, but anywho were continuing our journey to find the
right train station, because we don't have, or the British don't have a train
company that does everything like the Netherlands does with the NS, but we're gonna
go follow this route. Wait don't we have to go under the tunnel if we... - I have no idea. We're just searching for the next sign. - Okay.
Sounds good. Yeah we sort of found it and more people without jackets.
Shall we walk? - So I think we have to go into a train up here.
If we don't get hit by a car, which I don't think we do. I still
don't know which way to look. Look left. Okay, I'll look left.
I don't see a car. I do see a bus. I'd love to take a bus like that someday.
Okay, now let's figure out what train we have to take. Trains that way. Tickets
this way. Let's do this. - Confirm.
It doesn't work. Oh, look. Okay. Total price. - Maybe I have five bucks or pounds.
It took about like 30 minutes or so. - Yes. - So that was not too bad. And in the train, there was
this guy talking to us about tips and tricks of things we should definitely
see while we're in Birmingham. Birmingham, I should say the Brittish way. Now we're walking home. - I hope so. - Yes, I hope so too. Because we realized
we're getting quite tired. And then we got home safely, and I'm ready to get
into chill mode, so I'm gonna drink some water drink some tea.
Good night!

The 5 basic rules for communication without misunderstanding - Dr. Martin Auer MBA (132) - Duration: 6:03.
This is Martin Auer speaking again from Science Sales Academy.
This video is number 132 and it is about: The 5 basic rules for communication without misunderstanding.
A big or a minor misunderstanding - has this ever happened to you?
Well, of course.
You explained something to your counterpart and everything was perfectly clear.
At least you believed in that.
Only afterwards you recognize by pure coincidence that nothing was clear at all and that your
conversation partner has understood something totally different than what you have explained.
Especially as a specialist for one field we are dealing with our own matter on a daily
basis and as such we run the risk of too easily assuming that our conversation partners are
on a similar level of experience and knowledge as we are - which of course is not always the case.
Especially in sales, very often it is of crucial importance that the facts which we as salespersons
want to communicate arrive just as meant in the mind of our conversation partner.
If what is said does not trigger the desired association in the receiver 's head or does
not establish the intended image, the misunderstanding occurs: What is said is not correctly understood
and develops questions and confusion.
For us as salespersons, the consequences may be serious: Either a completely wrong picture
emerges in the head of the recipient or one loses his conversation partner in the communication,
because some of the recipient's thinking capacities are then used to resolve the misunderstanding
and thus are no longer available for the actual communication.
In order not to get into such a situation and simply to communicate better, understandably
and without misunderstanding, there are 5 simple basic rules:
First basic rule for a communication without misunderstanding: In the case of a conversation which is not
conducted with technical specialists, as few technical terms and foreign words as possible
should be used.
By that misunderstandings are easily prevented.
It is important to focus on the customer and to structure the conversation well.
Specialists can tolerate more technical terms than persons who are not so much involved in the matter.
Communication with people from a different cultural or social environment is, of course,
more critical in terms of developing misunderstandings.
We should always bear in mind: It is not important to level out ourselves by using as many technical
terms as possible, but it is much more important that what is said goes directly to the conversation
partner without misunderstanding.
Second basic rule for communication without misunderstanding: Comparisons and illustrative examples can
help laymen or inexperienced people to better understand complicated facts.
By that, a misunderstanding does not even begin and understanding problems are clarified faster.
Basic rule number 3 for communication without misunderstanding: Not everyone feels safe and secure in one
special language and perhaps the sales talk is also conducted with customers from abroad.
Therefore, as less as possible abbreviations should be used.
This also reduces the likelihood of misunderstandings.
Number 4 principle of communication without misunderstanding: In the case of long negotiations or presentations,
it is very important to summarize briefly in between in stages and chapters what has been said.
By this all can follow the conversation and there is no misunderstanding.
Number 5 basic rule: At the end of the conversation, the discussion
should be briefly summarized again in order to bring all the participants to the same level.
With these simple and fast-to-implement tips, communication is significantly improved during
important conversations, the likelihood of misunderstandings is reduced, which will significantly
improve the quality of each conversation.

Homunculus #19 - Duration: 2:24.
Hi! I'm Korney.
My homunculus has grown enough. I want to try to feed it with live food.
I prepared a little fish for this.
Now I'm going to put the fish in the aquarium. And we'll see what happens.
Oh!
The fish suddenly fainted.
Nothing else happens. Probably I need to do something.
I'll try to put the fish in its mouth.
Oh! Fuck!
Unfortunately, the video was interrupted. I touched the camera power cable.
The fact is that the homunculus struck me with an electric current.
Now I understand what happened to the fish.
The homunculus becomes dangerous.
So I think that I should not keep it in the aquarium.
I do not know what I need to do.
I'm confused. And I cannot make a final decision.
I will think about it.

I apply my light points with a white flash color and blend with my sponge
I set everything with a loose powder
I intensify with a white shadow
I add Sapphyre from KDV Alchemist palette
I use my shadows from Cozzette
And do my contouring with the dark green shade
I draw some lines with some flash colors

I intensify with the dark green shadow
that I used previously
To create volume I add some white flash color
beside the lines
To darken more I add some black shadow
only at the beginning of the lines
I start my eyes with a white pencil on the lower lash line
I do my crease with the same dark green shadow again
And also on the lower lash line next to the white line

Why Instagram Pods Suck - Duration: 8:50.
*noise* Just wanna keep calling your name, til you come back home.
Why do you always tell me to be quiet?
I'm not a bad singer.
I know but I just don't want you to sing.
I appreciate the honesty.
We need to have a serious conversation about Instagram pods.
Now if you don't know what a pod is, basically it's about 10 or 15 people and they group
together on Instagram and whenever one of them posts the rest of them go and like or
comment.
It's essentially an engagement gamifying situation.
And the hopes is that their post will possibly get to the popular page or start to trend
a bit better algorithmically?
You know what, I'm not even entirely sure of the hope of it.
I have a conservative 6 reasons for you why Instagram pods suck.
The first reason is the algorithm.
The Instagram algorithm is nothing like the Facebook one.
The Facebook one is such where you share it, you like it, you comment on it and those pieces
of content tend to show up in your family and your friends feeds as well because Facebook
go "well you like it and these people like you, so maybe the people that like you will
like the content that you liked or engaged with" and obviously if you share it they will
see it too.
Instagram's a little bit different.
Our feeds are more private so just because I like something or I engage on something,
it doesn't show on your feed because the only things that show on your feed are the accounts
that you've already followed.
So let's think about that for a second, if we're engaging in this pod situation and we're
going around liking each other's stuff and we're engaging in each other's stuff it's
not going to show up in our friends or our family's feed or our followers feed, it's
only going to show up in our feed more regularly.
The discoverability on Instagram is unlike any other platform and this leads me to talking
about hashtags which was my sixth reason for why this whole Instagram pod thing sucks but
I'm going to bring it up now because it's a pretty big deal.
So the way that you discover anyone on Instagram for the most part is to search via a hashtag.
Now, let's just run with the theory that an Instagram pod is a good idea (it's not) and
assume that by us commenting and liking each other's posts gets us to the popular page
on the popular posts for that hashtag, we need to think about this for a second.
If we get to the popular posts of a big hashtag, we're only going to be there for 3.5 seconds
before we're pushed down.
So for example, I'm in social media.
If I make it to the social media hashtag, I ain't gonna be there long before somebody
else puts up a better post and pushes me down and it's pointless anyway.
But the main point about hashtags that I'm trying to make is that you actually need a
strategy in the first place and if you aren't all over hashtag strategy then you ain't in
the Instagram game at all.
No matter how much you want to gamify it, you need a solid hashtag strategy.
Getting to the popular page of a hashtag is probably the Instagram equivalent of 'going
viral'.
So before you try and 'go viral' you might want to have a really great hashtag strategy
in place otherwise chances are you're going to go to the popular page of a hashtag that's
probably got very little to do with you or is very very broad and the type of follower
that follows you out of it, isn't going to be a very qualified follower and this is also
why your hashtag strategy needs to be on point.
So my third reason as to why Instagram pods suck is because it's gamifying the system
and it takes the fun out of the platform for most of us.
Let me just say that gamifying any platform rarely results in anything good.
My fourth point and possibly one of my most favourite points is that Instagram pods relies
on people being reliable and people notoriously aren't reliable.
I do this kind of work for a living, right?
And it's hard enough being paid to be reliable for a client day in and day out and that's
just some hard truths.
So what makes you think that some random, just because they're in your niche is going
to be reliable longer than 3.5 days before they bow out or you never hear from them again.
They're not being paid to be there for you and in fact, if anything remotely more important
comes up like I don't know, their dog gets sick or they have a coffee date with a friend
- they're not gonna care that you posted and I would argue that you're wasting your time
expecting people to be reliable for you when the reality is, is that although you think
that there's a value exchange, there's actually not a value exchange because if they valued
Instagram and the platform they would be investing their time in creating consistent content
and being reliable for their audience in the first place.
Aka, they wouldn't need you to do in their Instagram pod to do their dirty work.
And my fifth reason why Instagram pods suck is much along the lines of the last one, it's
consistency.
I'm just going to give you a hard truth about the human race and the human condition.
Most people suck at consistency.
It's just a reality.
Again, this is my job, to be consistent for other people because one, they don't have
the time and I get that but two, because being consistent is hard.
It's hard.
It's never been easy.
You watch any content creator on YouTube or Instagram or any other platform and they will
preach that consistency is one of the winning factors that have driven success for them
because it's just the truth.
Any my final point about why Instagram pods suck is that quality is a legitimate thing
on Instagram.
ie - when you go to a hashtag and the popular posts page you will see that the content that
most often finds its way there is high quality and high value and I would argue that if you're
not already putting that content out then you should not be investing your time in being
in an Instagram pod and putting all that extra time into making high quality content for
the platform.
I guarantee you that if you invest in your hashtag strategy and you invest in high quality
content you are going to do 1000x better than investing time into an Instagram pod in fact,
that's going to take up way more of your time than sitting down, coming up with some kind
of a process and some kind of content plan for Instagram and just investing some hardcore
time in making sure you get it done and that' it's consistent and that you're engaging with
your own community.
I just feel like, don't waste your time kissing other people's butts.
Like their content if it's good but don't sit around and gamify Instagram, it's a waste
of time.
I guarantee you in a few days or a couple of weeks that little pod will have forgotten
their duty to you and it's not actually going to make a difference anyway.
I have way more than 10-15 people who consistently like my content and yes it's anecdotal but
I'd argue that it doesn't necessarily make a difference as to whether I get to a popular
post page or not.
What it does mean, is that I have a loyal community because I've spent time there and
I've built that and when I ask a question, they answer and when they talk to me, I respond
and they know that I will respond and I would petition you to spend the time there and do
the same and that that's going to drive far more value for you and your audience in the
long run than to invest your time in other people's content.
This has been brought to you by Sarah Moore ranting.
Geez, 18 minutes.
Need some heavy editing on that one.
We need to have a serious chat about Instagram pods.
Out of my space, girl.
