Thank you and welcome.
I'm Brian Zeger, artistic director
of the Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts at Juilliard.
I'm so delighted to welcome
those of you who are with us today live
and those of you who are watching on medici.tv
and watching on the Juilliard website.
We are so proud
to have the content of these marvelous classes
broadcast all around the world for free.
We feel it's very much part of
Juilliard's educational mission
to share the exciting work that gets done at the school
to singers and lovers of music all around the world.
Today is a special event for us because we're featuring
the wonderful Maestro Emmanuel Villaume.
Many of you know Maestro Villaume's work
from his performances all around the world.
He's such a generous educator that, in fact,
we're borrowing him from the Metropolitan Opera,
where he conducted Romeo and Juliet last night.
So he's so generous to be with us.
He is a constant presence here at Juilliard
and a constant inspiration to us.
He has conducted operas here.
He has done a whole number of symphonic concerts,
and we just ask him to come back
as often as his busy schedule can possibly permit.
This is a different kind of class
than the usual kind of class you see
with a master singer and a solo singer.
The idea behind this class,
which I've thought of for years,
and we've just begun to explore this new format,
is really inspired by this thought on my part,
is that so much of what singers do,
they do with each other.
Operas don't just consist of arias.
I know you all know that, but think about that for a minute.
All singers ever seem to work on
in master classes are arias,
but, in fact, ensemble work is so important.
And one of the things that a seasoned maestro has to do
is bring different artists together into an ensemble.
And really what he's doing is bringing those characters
that are acting that scene, that are singing that scene,
into a dynamic with each other.
So what you're seeing today
is very much a working rehearsal.
It's the kind of what we call a music rehearsal,
that a cast would have with a conductor
when they first arrive at the opera house.
So you're getting a kind of inside glimpse
into what is one of the most important things
that happen in the preparation of opera,
and there is absolutely no one
better to give this than Emmanuel Villaume,
his command of music, of dramatic understanding,
linguistic understanding.
Of course, we have picked all French opera excerpts,
you notice.
He is a French conductor,
extremely expert in this literature,
as he is with many others.
But the insight that he brings,
I think you'll find fascinating.
And you are kinds of flies on the wall,
those of you all around the world,
to see what a great conductor
can do with talented young singers.
So we are absolutely thrilled to welcome Emmanuel Villaume.

Böylece kendini duygularını düzenlemeyi öğreniyor. Ailede öğrenilen bu beceri
duyguları anlamak, bastırmak değil düzenlemek
durup derin nefes almak, neden öyle hissettiğini fark etmek,
Duygu rehberi aileler duygulara odaklanır,

LUTHER NAILING HIS 95 THESES TO THE CHURCH DOOR
IN WITTENBURG, GERMANY.
AT THE TIME, EVEN LUTHER HIMSELF COULD HARDLY HAVE
KNOWN WHAT HE WAS UNLEASHING.
BECAUSE OF THE REFORMATION, THE BIBLE
BECAME WIDELY AVAILABLE TO INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS
OF THE CHURCH, AND THE TRANSFORMING POWER OF
THE WORD OF GOD CHANGED THE WORLD.
THE REFORMERS REDISCOVERED THE TRUTH THAT JESUS WAS
NOT MERELY LORD OVER SOME SEQUESTERED SPIRITUAL
REALM, BUT OVER EVERYTHING.
SO HOW DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR LIFE?

OUR SCRIPTURE LESSON THIS MORNING IS TAKEN FROM THE
FIRST CHAPTER OF PAUL'S EPISTLE TO THE ROMANS.
ROMANS CHAPTER 1, BEGINNING WITH THE
14TH VERSE.
MAY WE HEAR THE INSPIRED WORD OF THE LIVING GOD.
AND MAY GOD SPEAK TO US TODAY THROUGH HIS HOLY
WORD AND MAY HIS NAME EVER BE PRAISED.
AMEN.
OCTOBER 31ST IS, OF COURSE, REFORMATION DAY.
IT IS THE BIRTHDAY OF PROTESTANTISM.
ARE YOU A PROTESTANT?
MANY PROTESTANTS AREN'T.
WHY THEY HAVE NO MORE IDEA WHAT THE REFORMATION WAS
ABOUT THAN THEY COULD EXPLAIN TO YOU THE SPECIAL
THEORY OF RELATIVITY.
THEY HAVE NO MORE IDEA WHAT THE GOSPEL IS THAN
THOSE THAT LIVED IN THE DEPTHS OF THE DARK AGES.
THEY ARE MEMBERS OF A CHURCH BY ACCIDENT OF
BIRTH, AND THEY ATTEND BY MERE HABIT, AND THEY WOULD
HAVE NO MORE IDEA WHEN THEY WENT INTO ONE CHURCH
WHETHER THE PREACHER WAS PREACHING THE GOSPEL OR
WHETHER HE WAS PREACHING THE ABSOLUTE ANTITHESIS
TO IT.
WHAT LUTHER REDISCOVERED WAS SIMPLY "GRACE."
AND IF ANYONE HAS THE IDEA THAT GRACE IS SOMETHING
THAT YOU EARN BY YOUR GOOD LIFE OR YOUR GOOD WORKS,
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT GRACE IS.
GRACE IS THAT WHICH IS TOTALLY UNEARNED, TOTALLY
UNDESERVED, TOTALLY UNWORKED FOR.
IT IS FREE; IT IS GIVEN TO PEOPLE WHO DESERVE THE
VERY OPPOSITE.
IT IS HEAVEN GIVEN TO PEOPLE THAT OUGHT TO
GO TO HELL.
IT IS THE ASTOUNDING, AMAZING GRACE OF GOD
WHICH IS UNLIKE ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD.
AND WE SIMPLY TURN IT AROUND AND MAKE IT INTO
SOME KIND OF MERIT OF OUR OWN.
BUT CHRIST, IN THE EFFULGENCE OF HIS GLORY
AND THE WONDER OF HIS GRACE, DIED ON THE CROSS
AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD AND OFFERS SALVATION FREELY,
GRATUITOUSLY, GRACIOUSLY TO EVERY UNDESERVING,
UNWORTHY SINNER WHO WILL BELIEVE IN HIS CROSS.
UNDESERVED, UNEARNED- THAT IS GRACE.
AND IN 1483 IN THE HUMBLE HOME OF A WOODCUTTER, A
LITTLE CHILD WAS BORN NAMED MARTIN LUTHER.
MARTIN LUTHER NEVER SET OUT TO DO ANYTHING GREAT.
HIS ONLY DESIRE WAS THE SALVATION OF HIS OWN SOUL.
YET, AS THE GREAT WRITER CARLYLE SAID, LUTHER WAS
GREAT NOT IN THE SENSE OF SOMEBODY WHO SET OUT TO
ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING, BUT GREAT AS A MOUNTAIN IS
GREAT- JUST BY STANDING THERE.
AND THAT MOUNTAIN CHANGED THE COURSE OF HISTORY, AS
GOD IN HIS MARVELOUS PROVIDENCE REVEALED TO HIM
SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT GOING TO REMAIN WITH HIM
FOR LONG.
AND SO LUTHER GREW UP, WENT TO COLLEGE.
HE WAS GOING OFF TO LAW SCHOOL TO STUDY LAW, AND
HE AND A FRIEND WERE WALKING BACK TO THE
UNIVERSITY AND THE SKY BECAME GLOWERING AND IT
DARKENED.
THE CLOUDS GATHERED AND THE RAIN BEGAN TO DESCEND.
THEY WEREN'T PARTICULARLY INTERESTED, HARDY FOLKS
THOSE, UNTIL SUDDENLY THERE WAS A FLASH OF
BRIGHTNESS THAT ALMOST BLINDED LUTHER, AND A
THUNDEROUS SOUND AS LIGHTNING STRUCK HIS
FRIEND RIGHT AT HIS SIDE, KILLING HIM INSTANTLY,
THROWING LUTHER ONTO HIS FACE IN THE MUD, FILLING
HIS HEART WITH TERROR.
HE WAS ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN ANOTHER BOLT WAS GOING TO
FALL AND HIT HIM, AND HE LIFTED UP HIS MUDDY FACE
AND HIS DIRTIED HAND TO HEAVEN AND SAID, "HELP,
ST. ANNA, AND I WILL ENTER A MONASTERY."
AND SO HE SET OUT TO DO HIS GOOD DEEDS TO EARN HIS
MERIT, TO GET ALL OF THE MERIT BADGES HE COULD TO
SAVE HIS SOUL.
AND WHEN HE ENTERED INTO THOSE DOORS OF THE
AUGUSTINIAN MONASTERY IN ERFURT, GERMANY, AND THOSE
GREAT DOORS CLANGED CLOSED BEHIND HIM, MARTIN LUTHER
WAS DEAD TO THE WORLD.
STAUPITZ, THE HEAD OF THE MONASTERY, ONE OF THOSE
FEW PEOPLE THAT REALLY HAD GRASPED THE GOSPEL IN THE
MIDST OF THOSE DARK AGES, SET HIM TO TEACHING THE
SCRIPTURES.
AND TOLD HIM TO TEACH THE BOOK OF ROMANS, FROM WHICH
I READ TODAY.
AND LUTHER CAME ACROSS THAT PASSAGE IN ROMANS
1:17, WHICH IS CALLED THE "BIRTH TEXT" OF
PROTESTANTISM.
IT IS CARVED INTO THIS PULPIT IN FRONT OF YOU:
"AS IT IS WRITTEN, THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH"
ROMANS 1:17.
AND LUTHER CAME ACROSS THAT VERSE AND HE COULD
NOT UNDERSTAND IT.
STAUPITZ DECIDED ABOUT THIS TIME TO SEND HIM AS
AN EMISSARY TO ROME, HOPING THAT THAT MIGHT DO
SOME GOOD FOR HIS SOUL.
NOW, MARTIN LUTHER WAS THOROUGHLY CONVINCED THAT
THE CITY OF ROME WAS INHABITED BY ANGELS AND
SAINTS.
BUT HE WAS IN FOR A VERY DISAPPOINTING SHOCK.
WHEN HE GOT THERE HE RAN LIKE A CRAZED PILGRIM, HE
SAID, FROM ONE CHURCH TO ANOTHER, FROM ONE SHRINE
TO ANOTHER, FROM ONE RELIC TO ANOTHER, SAYING ALL OF
THE PRESCRIBED PRAYERS AND ADDING UP THE NUMBER OF
DAYS OF INDULGENCES THAT HE HAD EARNED, UNTIL AT
LAST HE CAME TO THE SCALA SANCTA.
THOSE WERE THE ACTUAL STAIRS UPON WHICH CHRIST
HAD STOOD 1,500 YEARS BEFORE THAT, THAT LED UP
TO PONTIUS PILATE'S PALACE WHERE HIS SEAT WAS, WHERE
HE PASSED JUDGMENT.
AND THEY HAD BEEN BROUGHT 300 YEARS AFTER THAT BY
THE MOTHER OF CONSTANTINE INTO THE CITY OF ROME.
AND NOW THE PILGRIMS WENT UP THESE STAIRS ON THEIR
KNEES PRAYING THE VARIOUS PRAYERS ON EACH STEP.
AND HE GOT PART OF THE WAY UP WHEN HE THOUGHT THAT HE
HEARD A VOICE.
IT WAS BUT A WHISPER, BUT IT SAID, "OH MARTIN, THE
JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."
BUT HE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT.
AND HE WENT UP SEVERAL MORE STEPS AND SAID THE
APPROPRIATE PRAYERS, AND THAT VOICE, WHICH WAS BUT
PIANISSIMO, HE HEARD AGAIN- THIS TIME FORTE:
"THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."
AND HE SAID MORE PRAYERS AND WENT UP SEVERAL MORE
STEPS, AND THEN THE VOICE CAME AGAIN- THIS TIME IT
WAS THUNDERING, AS IF IT FILLED THE ENTIRE
CATHEDRAL.
THIS TIME IT WAS FORTISSIMO: THE JUST SHALL
LIVE BY FAITH!
SUDDENLY, LUTHER LEAPED TO HIS FEET.
HE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYBODY IN THE
PLACE DID NOT HEAR THIS VOICE.
HE LOOKED AROUND AND IT SEEMED THAT SCALES HAD
FALLEN FROM HIS EYES, AND SUDDENLY HE UNDERSTOOD
THAT WE ARE JUSTIFIED BY FAITH.
IN FACT, THE GREEK TEXT ACTUALLY SAYS:
THOSE JUSTIFIED BY FAITH SHALL LIVE.
AND CONSEQUENTLY, THOSE WHO SEEK TO BE JUSTIFIED
IN ANY OTHER WAY SHALL NOT LIVE.
AND HE RAN DOWN THE STAIRS AND OUT OF THE CITY AND
BACK TO WITTENBERG, AND HE BEGAN TO PREACH THE GLAD
TIDINGS OF THE GOSPEL OF THE FREE GRACE OF GOD.
AND THE GOSPEL CONTINUED TO GROW THERE IN
WITTENBERG UNTIL, AT LENGTH, A MAN BY THE NAME
OF TETZEL CAME HAWKING INDULGENCES.
INDULGENCES WERE SOMETHING THAT IN THAT DAY THEY
BOUGHT TO PAY TO GET LOVED ONES OUT OF PURGATORY.
AND LUTHER WAS UPSET BY THIS.
HE STUMBLED OVER A MAN LYING IN THE GUTTER AS HE
WAS GOING HOME, AND THE MAN HAD A PIECE OF PAPER
THAT WAS SIGNED BY THE POPE THAT SAID THAT ALL OF
HIS SINS HAD BEEN FORGIVEN WHEN HE PURCHASED THIS.
AS TETZEL SAID, "WHEN THE COIN FALLS INTO THE
BUCKET, THE SOUL RISES UP OUT OF PURGATORY."
AND LUTHER, KNOWING THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS
THIS IN THE BIBLE, SAT DOWN AND WROTE 95 THESES,
STATEMENTS WHY THIS WAS CONTRARY TO THE TEACHING
OF THE BIBLE.
AND ON OCTOBER 31ST, 1517, HE WALKED ABOUT A MILE
FROM HIS HOME TO THE CASTLE CHURCH IN
WITTENBERG AND NAILED THOSE THESES TO THE DOOR.
THEY WERE WRITTEN IN LATIN.
THE PURPOSE FOR THEM WAS TO HAVE A DEBATE BETWEEN
OTHER SCHOLARS AND THEOLOGIANS ABOUT THAT.
BUT PRINTING HAD ONLY RECENTLY BEEN DISCOVERED.
THE THESES WERE TRANSLATED INTO LATIN AND THEN INTO
GERMAN AND THEN OTHER LANGUAGES, AND SOON THEY
SPREAD ALL OVER EUROPE, AND THE WHOLE CONTINENT
WAS ABLAZE WITH THIS.
ECK, DR. ECK, THE GREATEST DEBATER IN EUROPE,
CHALLENGED HIM TO DEBATE.
LUTHER WAS BUT A HUMBLE MONK, BUT HE ACCEPTED IT.
AND BASED UPON THE SCRIPTURES, PEOPLE WERE
ASTONISHED TO FIND THAT HE HAD BACKED ECK RIGHT UP
AGAINST THE WALL.
SO NOW IT WAS DEMANDED THAT HE COME TO THE DIET
OF WORMS.
I REMEMBER A STUDENT IN SCHOOL SAID THAT LUTHER
WENT TO A COUNCIL WHERE ALL THEY ATE WAS WORMS.
NO, THE DIET OF WORMS, AS IT IS PRONOUNCED, IS NOT A
DIET OF WORMS; IT WAS A GREAT CONVENTION OF BOTH
THE AUTHORITIES IN STATE AND CHURCH THAT MET TO
CONSIDER THIS NOW VERY CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE OF
WHAT WAS THE GOSPEL.
AND LUTHER WAS TOLD NOT TO GO.
"REMEMBER JOHN HUS," HE WAS WARNED.
A HUNDRED YEARS BEFORE THAT JOHN HUS, WHO WAS A
PROFESSOR IN BOHEMIA WHO HAD MADE THE SAME
DISCOVERY, WAS INVITED TO COME TO THE COUNCIL OF
CONSTANCE.
HE WAS GIVEN SAFE CONDUCT THERE AND BACK, BUT WHEN
THEY GOT THERE THEY DECLARED HIM TO BE A
HERETIC, CANCELED HIS SAFE CONDUCT, SAID THERE WOULD
BE NO DEBATE, AND BURNED HIM AT THE STAKE.
"REMEMBER JOHN HUS," THEY SAID OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
"DON'T GO TO WORMS."
LUTHER SAID, "THOUGH THE DEVILS BE AS THICK AS THE
TILES ON THE ROOF, I GO TO WORMS."
HE WAS CONVINCED THAT THEY WOULD ALLOW A DEBATE.
AND SO, IN A LARGE WAGON PULLED BY A COUPLE OF OXEN
HE SLOWLY WOUND HIS WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRYSIDE
OF GERMANY TO THE CITY OF WORMS.
AND TO HIS AMAZEMENT THERE WERE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF
PEOPLE GATHERED THERE.
HE WENT INTO THIS GIGANTIC HALL, LARGER THAN THIS,
WHERE THERE WERE 5,000 PEOPLE INSIDE, AND THERE
AT THE HEAD, SEATED UPON A GREAT THRONE CHAIR, WAS
THE NEWLY CROWNED AND ELECTED EMPEROR OF THE
HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE, THE SPANIARD, CHARLES V-
JUST A VERY, VERY YOUNG MAN HIMSELF.
AND BESIDE HIM WERE THE ELECTORS FROM THE VATICAN;
ALEXANDER, AND ECK.
IN ADDITION THERE WERE ARCHBISHOPS AND BISHOPS;
AND THERE WERE DUKES AND COUNTS AND PRINCES; THE
FIVE ELECTORS OF THE HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE, INCLUDING
FREDERICK THE WISE, WHO WAS LUTHER'S ELECTOR, WERE
ALL THERE.
THIS WAS AN ISSUE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE.
AND OUT IN FRONT OF THE THRONE CHAIR WERE SEVERAL
LONG TABLES COVERED WITH BOOKS, AND HE WAS TOLD,
WHEN HE WAS BROUGHT OUT INTO THE ROOM, CLOTHED IN
THE HUMBLE GARMENTS OF A MONK, THAT HE WAS NOT TO
SPEAK UNLESS HE WAS SPOKEN TO.
AND HE WAS ONLY TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS PLACED TO
HIM, AND HE WAS TO ANSWER THEM FIRST IN LATIN AND
THEN IN GERMAN.
AND ECK ASKED THE QUESTION: "ARE THESE YOUR BOOKS?"
HE WALKED UP ONE SIDE OF THE TABLE AND DOWN THE
OTHER AND SAID, IN LATIN AND GERMAN, "YES, THEY ARE."
HE ASKED HIM THE SECOND QUESTION, "WILL YOU RECANT?"
IT WAS AS IF A SPEAR PIERCED HIS HEART.
SUDDENLY HE SAW IN HIS MIND'S EYE THE FLAMES
CONSUMING THE FLESH OFF OF HUS.
HE COULD NOT BELIEVE THEY WERE DOING IT AGAIN.
IT WAS RECANT OR BURN, AND LUTHER WAS STUNNED.
HIS KNEES GREW WEAK; HE ALMOST COLLAPSED ON THE
FLOOR.
AND HE SAID, "SINCE THIS IS A MATTER OF SUCH GREAT
IMPORTANCE, THE ETERNAL SALVATION OF HUMAN SOULS,
I ASK FOR SOME TIME TO CONSIDER MY ANSWER."
THEY BOOED AND HISSED, LAUGHED, AND HE WAS GIVEN
TWENTY-FOUR HOURS.
THEY DIDN'T KNOW THAT HE SPENT THAT NIGHT ON HIS
KNEES PRAYING TO GOD FOR STRENGTH FOR WHAT HE KNEW
LAY AHEAD.
THE NEXT DAY HE WAS LED OUT AGAIN.
"WILL YOU RECANT?"
LUTHER SAID, "SINCE SOME OF THESE BOOKS DEAL WITH
THINGS SUCH AS THE LORD'S PRAYER AND OTHER THINGS
THAT WE ALL AGREE ON, HOW CAN I RECANT ON THESE
THINGS?"
AND ECK SAID, "I WANT A CLEAR ANSWER DEVOID OF
HORNS OR HOOFS.
WILL YOU OR WILL YOU NOT RECANT?"
AND HE SAID, "SINCE YOU DEMAND SUCH, I WILL GIVE
YOU AN ANSWER WITHOUT HORNS OR WITHOUT HOOFS.
SINCE MY CONSCIENCE IS BOUND BY THE WORD OF GOD,
UNLESS I AM REFUTED BY CLEAR TESTIMONY OR
ARGUMENTS FROM THE HOLY SCRIPTURE, AND SINCE IT IS
UNWISE TO GO AGAINST CONSCIENCE, SINCE IT IS
OBVIOUS THAT SYNODS AND POPES HAVE BOTH ERRED, I
CANNOT AND I WILL NOT RECANT ANYTHING."
THERE WAS A HUGE UPROAR FROM THE 5,000 PEOPLE THERE.
"HERETIC! BURN HIM. BURN HIM."
AND THEN LUTHER PRONOUNCED THOSE FINAL WORDS THAT
HAVE EVER ETCHED THEMSELVES INTO THE MINDS
OF MEN WHO LOVE LIBERTY.
HE SAID, AND HERE RELIGIOUS LIBERTY WAS BORN
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER: "HERE I STAND.
I CANNOT DO OTHERWISE.
GOD HELP ME.
AMEN."
HE WAS CONDEMNED TO BE BURNED AT THE STAKE, GIVEN
20 DAYS TO CHANGE HIS MIND, AND HE MADE HIS WAY
SLOWLY BACK, AND THERE WAS THE THUNDER OF HORSE'S
HOOVES, AND A GREAT GROUP OF MEN CAME GALLOPING DOWN
BESIDE HIM.
HE THOUGHT THEY HAD CHANGED THEIR MIND AND
WERE GOING TO KILL HIM RIGHT THERE.
SUDDENLY HE WAS LIFTED OUT OF THE WAGON ONTO ONE OF
THE HORSES.
THESE WERE THE MEN OF FREDERICK THE WISE, WHO
TOOK HIM TO THE TEMPLE IN THE THURINGIAN FOREST, TO
THE FORTRESS RATHER, AND THERE IN THAT FORTRESS HE
WAS UNDER GUARD FOR ONE YEAR, DURING WHICH TIME HE
TRANSLATED THE WHOLE BIBLE FROM THE HEBREW AND THE
GREEK INTO GERMAN- A BOOK WHICH TOTALLY DETERMINED
THE GERMAN LANGUAGE FROM THAT TIME FORWARD.
AND THE REFORMATION SPREAD.
THE GOSPEL OF GRACE WAS HEARD AGAIN, AND PEOPLES
LIVES WERE CHANGED.
SALVATION IS BY GRACE.
IT IS UNEARNED, UNDESERVED, UNMERITED.
IT IS PROVIDED BY CHRIST ALONE, AND IT IS RECEIVED
BY A SIMPLE TRUST IN HIM.
MAY WE PRAY.
LORD JESUS CHRIST, MAY SOME SAY TODAY, PERHAPS
FOR THE FIRST TIME, "LORD JESUS, BE THOU
MY RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND MAY MY SIN BE THINE.
IN THY NAME.

we drove the new Mercedes AMG E63 S
4matic+
And we are still waiting for BMW's answer
the new M5
and to keep us entertained
BMW have released the BMW M550i
the strongest 5 series
and the only V8
and it's the successor to the F10 550i
Which was available with xdrive
A car for someone who wanted
a fast BMW
with a V8
But not the flashy
look-at-me of the M5
or the extreme character
with it's hard suspension
This new G30 5 series
is a bit sharper looking
it's an evolution
But the lines are sharper
bigger grill
and lights..
It has more appearance
This M550i
adds some sporty details to that
Like titanium finish details
The frame of the grill for instance
mirror caps
that side thing
which looks like an ice hockey stick
It has a rear spoiler
and one of my favorite parts
the exhaust!
Which looks super nice
a nice black unit
because it's an M Sport exhaust
with two big exhaust tips
with two little pipes in each
Which looks great
It's not a big exhaust tip
with a little straw hanging in the middle
like many cars have
It's very nicely finished!
On the inside
you notice that they sound engineered
It's a nice V8 sound
very characteristic V8 sound
It's emplified through the speakers
We did not like it in the F10 M5
Which sounded like a UFO
But this is a V8
which is nice
And it performs like one!
This car weighs 1750Kg
But it can do 0-100 in 4.0s
with a top speed of 250km/h
Which is a bit of a shame
because a 340i or a 730d can also do that
It's not special..
Even though it's an M performance
and you can not get a optional higher top speed
I think the M Performance models should go 280
and the full on M models 300 or 310
The handling
is clearly in between
a normal 5 series
and an M5
It's dynamic and direct
gives a decent amount of feedback
feels a bit agile even
But it's not as hard and sharp
as an M5
Which is a nice compromise!
In comfort
with this fabulous 8 speed ZF gearbox
everything in comfort..
steering gets lighter
it gets more silent
I get more relaxed..
You have these amazing comfort seats
with pillows
massage seats with ventilation
completely quiet
The car just transforms!
It's a very soothing car
Driving it like this
you drive it on torque
When you give it some throttle
You feel it going
with some sound in the background
That gearbox is so subtle and soft
But go into sport mode..
and it gets agressive!
with the occasional bang from the exhaust
and then you start using the horses
462 to be precise..
from this twinscroll twinturbo engine
the conclusion of this car..
we've said it before
it's two-faced
But this one
performs on both sides on a very high level!
Which is why they added that little M
That's the improvement!
That sporty character..
And it's so good..
You might wonder if the M5 is needed..

Sometimes just before i get up i keep my eyes closed for a little longer and
dream of whom i like to be.
As a child there was a period i wanted to be an astronaut
on other days i would be a "framist" or a "sofaist"
... whatever those might be!
Today, i'd like to be that same child and dream
of being a tree or a fluffy October cloud,
a pebbly beach with it rustling breath
a coastal tower, a cliff or mighty dragon
or maybe ... maybe i'd want to be an
explorer, a writer, a vlogger
the man with the camera, a pen and the passion
a storyteller from a small little island who just like a little boy dreams of
saving the World.
Instead I'm just me
but that's a good start

Making A Chef Hat For Al's Hack Shack | Sewing Tutorial - Duration: 5:54.
In this video I'm going to show you how I made this chef hat for Al from Al's Hack Shack.
I'll also show how you can applique letters or other shapes onto fabric.
I'm using an old bar apron for the fabric.
It's nice thick cotton and I'm guessing Al will be able to appreciate that his hat was
used to serve beer in its previous life.
For the headband, I cut a rectangle that's 18 by 65 cm.
I then cut out the largest circle that I could out of the rest of the fabric.
I ended up with a diameter of 62 cm.
The larger the circle, the floppier the hat will be.
And yes, that is the official sewing term.
Or at least, it is now.
And then it's time for the applique.
I printed the letters in the right size from a screenshot of Al's channel banner.
And then I cut the letters out of the paper and traced them onto fusible webbing.
This is basically a transferable layer of glue on a sheet of paper.
Make sure to trace the reverse image!
I roughly cut the letters out and ironed the exposed glue onto the green fabric.
Then I cut out the letters.
Now I can remove the paper and iron the letters onto the headband.
To make sure the letters stay in place, I stitched a tight zigzag all the way around.
And that's how you do applique.
To make the headband hold its shape better, I added a layer of fusible interfacing to
the front half.
This can simply be ironed on.
I'll also use this opportunity to iron the fold into the headband.
I cut around the edges of the headband with pinking shears to prevent it from fraying.
Next, I'm going to attach Velcro to the headband.
I marked the seam allowance and cut 8cm pieces of Velcro.
I pinned the pieces in the right place and stitched them down.
By the way, you always want the soft side of the Velcro to point towards your skin,
so that it doesn't scratch you.
And the final addition to the headband is my label.
To finish the headband, I folded it right sides together and stitched the two ends closed.
I need to make a slit in the top to allow the size of the hat to be adjusted.
To do this, I marked the slit and stitched around it as reinforcement.
Then I cut the slit open.
Now I need a piece of bias tape, which is a strip of fabric cut at a 45 degree angle
to the grain direction of the fabric.
I decided to use the green fabric again, for a nice color accent, and I cut a strip of
25 by 5 cm.
I folded it in half and ironed it to make a crease.
And then I folded each of the sides towards the middle and ironed creases there as well.
Now I have my bias tape.
I pinned the open bias tape to one side of the slit, opening it up to allow for this.
I then stitched on top of the crease.
Next, I folded the bias tape towards the other side of the fabric, pinned it down and stitched
it close to the edge.
Stitching around the top of the slit can be a bit tricky, so make sure to take your time there.
To finish the slit, I folded one side of the bias tape to the inside and pinned it in place.
To attach the top of the hat to the headband, it needs to be gathered around the edge.
To do this, set the stitch length to the maximum.
For me that's 5 mm.
Then sew two lines of stitching around the edge of the circle.
Leave long tails on the beginning and end and do not backstitch.
On one side, tie a knot in the top two threads.
On the other side, tie a knot in the bottom two threads.
Mark the quarter points of the circle with pins.
And now gently pull on the free threads to gather the fabric.
This actually turned out to be the most time consuming step for me, because my fabric is
quite rough and it was hard to slide over the thread.
My threads even broke at some point, so I removed them and stitched three lines of gathering
stitches this time, so there was less force on each of the threads.
Eventually, I got the gathering done.
I folded the top edges of the headband inside and ironed them down.
Then I marked the quarter points of the headband as well.
Now I can slide the edge of the top inside the headband.
I'm lining up the quarter points to make sure that the gathering is distributed evenly.
I pinned it all in place and then I sewed along the top of the headband.
I didn't catch all of the fabric at the back, so I added a second line of stitching just
below the first one to make sure everything is properly attached.
And that's how I made the chef hat.
So Al, I hope you like it.
And if you feel like mixing it up a little bit, you can always wear it in different ways.
There's 'The classic' of course,
but then you can also try 'The triangle',
'The high hat',
'The French baret',
'The Swedish chef',
'The pizza top',
or even 'The headless chef'.
