Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura may have been robbed as he lay dying in Dominican Republic, says r... - Duration: 2:07.
The family of Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura wants his death investigated amid reports that he was robbed and left for dead after a car crash in the Dominican Republic.
Authorities initially said Ventura was killed Sunday in a car crash.
But after a new report suggested he was attacked and robbed of his 2015 World Series ring and other valuables in the car before he died, his distraught family pleaded for authorities to open an investigation.
"We don't have a clear signal of everything that happened," Ventura's grandfather Raul Hernandez told a local newspaper, Pio Deportes. "We want clarification from the national police."

According to Dominican journalist Euri Cabral, who works for Dominican FM radio show "El Sol de la Mañana," Ventura was still alive after his white Jeep crashed in Juan Adrian, north of the capital Santo Domingo Sunday.
Ventura was found alive by various people, but instead of helping him, they attacked the pitcher, Cabral reported. Jacobo Mateo Moquete, whose Twitter account says he is a colonel with the National Police, couldn't verify any robbery took place.
"It's tragic that something of this magnitude happened," Moquete said, according to a Kansas City Star report. "But whether or not (Ventura) was robbed, I don't have information to establish that."
"He wasn't just a teammate or a friend," Royals catcher Salvador Perez said of Yordano Perez (above). "He was a brother."

Hundreds of mourners, including several of the pitcher's teammates, remembered Ventura's life and career. His funeral procession made a stop at the baseball field where he played in his youth. Pall bearers placed his casket briefly at home plate.
"He wasn't just a teammate or a friend," said Royals catcher Salvador Perez. "He was a brother. We've known him since he started playing for Kansas City.
His moments aside, he had a big heart.
It's incredibly sad what we're going through right now."

Constitutional Court holds ninth hearing in impeachment trial - Duration: 2:58.
Korea's Constitutional Court is holding the ninth hearing in the impeachment trial of
President Park Geun-hye.
For the details, we go straight to our reporter Kim Ji-yeon at the court.
Ji-yeon, what's the latest?
Chief Justice Park Han-chul said today... the impeachment trial should be concluded
before March 13th,... when Justice Lee Jung-mi's term ends.
This is the first time the Constitutional Court has ever mentioned a timeline for when
the impeachment trial should end, and its conclusion will have an impact on the next
presidential election.
If the court upholds the parliamentary impeachment motion against President Park, this year's
presidential election could take place at the end of April or in early May, as the country
must elect another state leader within 60 days by law.
If the court rejects impeachment, President Park will return to her duties and the next
presidential election would take place in December as scheduled.
In making the statement, Chief Justice Park said the opinions of each of the nine justices
are significant and having a new justice who takes Lee's place... could distort or have
a negative impact on the justices' impartiality and the trial outcome.
He also said today's hearing would be his last in the trial, as his term ends this month.
The next hearing is scheduled for February 1st.
He also laid blame on the National Assembly and lawmakers for not coming up with legislative
actions to prevent future vacancies on the court, and pledged to participate in efforts
to revise the Constitution to remedy the situation.
Also this morning, former Culture Minister Yoo Jin-ryong, ,... appeared in court as witness.
Yoo had initially called attention to the creation of a blacklist allegedly drawn up
by the presidential office on left-leaning artists critical of the government.
The blacklist was allegedly created to exclude those on it from government funding or sponsorship.
Before the trial began, Yoo had told reporters that the blacklist existed after former presidential
chief of staff Kim Ki-choon was appointed… and added he believed that people who didn't
follow orders to discriminate against those on the blacklist, including him, were removed
from their culture ministry posts.
In taking the stand today, Yoo answered questions regarding the president's involvement in creating
and directing the list and the larger influence-peddling scandal involving the president and her confidante
Choi Soon-sil.
This afternoon, Ko Young-tae, Choi's close associate and the former head of The Blue
K, a paper company allegedly set up by Choi... and Ryu Sang-young , a former Blue K department
head, are scheduled to testify.
Meanwhile, the court has dismissed requests to summon former Senior Secretary for Civil
Affairs Woo Byung-woo, former national security adviser Kim Jang-soo and several conglomerate
heads, including Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, as witnesses.
