The homepage for the Stanford Libraries is at library.stanford.edu. It contains a
wealth of information about the libraries and their resources, so it is
worth spending some time exploring its pages. I'd like to highlight a few. My
account is the first and it is protected by authentication. You can learn more
about it in another module by Joseph. My account is where you see what items you
have checked out and when they are due, the status of items you have recalled or
paged, and any library bills you may have. It is also where you can renew items and
pay your bills with a credit card. Under the About tab you will find a People
section--information about librarians who are experts in various subject areas.
These people are also here to help you with your research, so, for example, if you
are interested in Latin America, you will want to contact the Adan Griego. Under
libraries, you will find links to the webpages of the various libraries on
campus. In addition to the Cubberley library, these other libraries will also
be important sources of information. When you select a library it opens with hours
and access information, but be sure to look at the library website tab to see
the wealth of resources there, including topic guides. We have many topic guides
in education. These are designed to get you started with background resources--
usually encyclopedias and handbooks--as well as letting you see what new books
we have received, what journals we have in this area, a select list of databases
for the topic, and links to relevant websites. Another way to find topic
guides is to use the search box on the library home page.
When you type in a topic you are actually searching the online library
catalog, the new Articles+ service and the library web space. Other modules will
teach you more about SearchWorks: Catalog and Articles+ and using
databases. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
