My first question to you, A long journy saudi women have made to gain their rights. what role does social media playin todays strive?
First, I would like to Thank you and Alhurra for having me
and for your question, social media in general espically twitter have played an important role in delivering the fiminst movement in Saudi arabia to the entire world.
the movement in saudi arabia have made some light changes in the ground regarding women rights
But this is not what we aspire. what we aspire to, is far more greater than what the government has granted us recently.
and in the effect of the movement in social media. it has helped in spreading awareness and getting the public opinion involved.
Also, in the international level. the international media also got involved in covering the lack of rights and the movement.
Also, there is TV shows like a well known American comedy show that underlined the lack of rights for women in Saudi and the guardianship law
and I believe this is because of the saudi feminist movement in social media
Danah, few days ago a video was all over the social media for a religious figure expressing his opinion on women driving in saudi.
describing women as they have quarter of a brain. how did you react to this statement.
I believe Alhajri is a member in the fatwa council in Aseer
Honestly, as he stated that the video was dated on 2013
so bringing up this video to be viral in 2017 is something that doesn't sound right
Moreover, it is just a way to distract the public with unimportant stuff so people would not focus in the important matters which we should be focusing on.
But some people maybe more than some are relying on religious texts and refrences when building their opinions. isn't that right?
to be honest, there are a lot of religious texts not only in islam but many religions
which carries that concept of women being a property and inferior to men
so this is why I can understand where that man comes from with his description of women brain
