How Did You Get Into UX? - Duration: 5:07.
[Rachel] The field of user experience requires skills from many different areas, including
psychology, architecture, library science, and visual design, among others.
Because of this, everyone's journey into UX is different.
I'm at the UX Conference in San Francisco, and had a chance to ask a few people how they
got into UX.
[Raj] I used to talk about design and UX all the time.
One day, what happened — my manager was like, "Why don't you talk about user experience
in the lunch team meeting?"
And that was the first time I realized that I don't really know how to define user experience.
I was desperate to find what out what it is.
I looked into a lot of books, and I came across this book by Don Norman.
The Design of Everyday Things.
That opened my eyes completely into what exactly is user experience, and from that day, that
was a turning point for my life.
I moved from engineering as a creative technologist, and now I'm working as a UX architect.
That day and today.
I feel like a much different person from that day.
[Christina] My background is psychology, global marketing, and design.
And UX is a new world of all of those things together.
I just started with a new company, and they've got a UX team.
We're just starting to build it up.
They sent me and two other members here to figure out what is the best of the best doing
in the UX world.
What are those trends?
How can we adopt those and bring those back into our company?
As I'm learning more about it, I want that to become a big part of my world, because
I see the value of it.
I see how it's so important to see that end-to-end perspective of what is our customer, at the
end of the day, going to experience with us.
[Joe] So, at our company, we found that we weren't delivering solutions in a way that
matched the consumer's mind.
What we found is that there is often a discrepancy between what we thought we were delivering
and what they were receiving.
All throughout my academic and professional career, I have always had an interest in the
human mind and I've come from a background in software engineering.
So really, UX is the marriage between those two.
And I don't just want to deliver a functional solution; I also want to deliver a solution
that matches my users' needs.
[Juan] I was working in an advertising agency, and my boss always asked for really creative
work, but usable work.
So it was a very big challenge that forced me to study and to learn more about UX, and
that's why I am very in love with UX right now.
I've been a visual and web designer and front-end developer and kind of jack-of-all-trades for
maybe ten years now.
I recently had a project where I completely failed at giving my client what they needed.
So, I've been learning over time that what my client needs me to do is figure out what
their client actually needs.
That's something I've been doing intuitively, but I didn't know really any clear methodology
around it.
When I had this total bellyflop with this client, a friend of mine who I knew of as
an SEO guy kind of saved the day and introduced me to the Nielsen Norman Group through online
resources and set me up for success in that situation and it did end up working out so...
after that I felt like this is really the next step for me to take for my career.
[Tim] I started as a graphic designer in packaging, in fact.
Every company I went to, I'd always done a different thing.
But I've always been looking for "What's the next step from graphic design," basically;
besides asking about what font size to use, spacing, and layout.
I thought that, "There has to be something more than just making this thing look pretty."
When UX came into the picture I was like, "How do I get into that?"
*laughs* "How do I get into that?
This is what I've been looking for."
[Katharine] So, when I graduated undergrad, I started working in media planning.
After a while, I realized that wasn't really want I wanted to do with my life.
So, I enrolled in a marketing certification course.
In one of my courses, they had an industrial designer come in and talk to us about what
she did.
I was just like, "What you do is amazing!"
Kind of does what I did in undergrad, brings in the research that I do in my current job
for media planning.
But I want to do digital.
So I kind of attacked her after class, "Tell me about what you do, and is there any digital
equivalent?"
She told me about UX, and it was like, "This was what is right for me."
And I left the course.
I started looking up graduate degree programs, and signed up, and I haven't really looked
back since.

[International Couple] OUR FIRST REAL COMMERCIAL - Duration: 8:11.
hi welcome back you guys sorry I've been gone for a week I've had a lot of
stuff that's been happening one of the things that I'm about to share with you
in this video is an opportunity that I got something that I've always wanted to
try yeah I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did but before I show you the clips
I did want to say thank you so much for the 20,000 subscribers the guys I really
really do appreciate it
No, seriously, thank you so much for the 20,000 subscribers.
We're shooting a commercial
And for the first scene they took me out
we just started because I don't look natural enough it's exciting but
It's exciting but
Super nervous
Now I feel more nervous
Look at the camera
Im more nervous now
maybe I need some context so the first scene of this commercial that we are shooting is
inside the coffee shop and I'm a barista and I work here then Sola comes in and
I can fall in love with her but I think the coolest thing about this whole thing
is I get to watch professional work and I feel like I'm learning a lot it's
really exciting just for me to watch him like take its shots like set up the
lighting to me that's the most enjoyable part of this whole experience so far see
my biggest worry was that I don't have any acting experience so I thought I was
gonna become a really big problem for the director and
last one was really good but
Slightly open your mouth please
okay okay
A little bit to much
don't do that
So don't blink
Don't blink and don't (Inhale sound)
Is that enough?
Too much, open little bit
Slowly open your mouth
Was it fast?
Your chin was like...
I have a big chin
guys I was struggling a lot for the very first scene because it had to be you
know perfect it had to be super emotional and I've never done this so I
was super nervous and I didn't know what I was doing and I just wanted to get it right
I actually ended up going in the bathroom to practice in front of the mirror a few times
come on man, come on, come on man you got it, you got it!!!
And then I ended up practicing in front of Sola a few times too because I've really wanted to get
this down I've really wanted to get it right
You don't stare at customers like that
how do you know how look at customers
maybe that's how I look at all my customers
it's a lot harder than I thought it was gonna be
Now its Sola's trun
How does it feel?
I don't know haha
I look ugly, I think I look ugly
is that you?
I think
He is amazing
I think me and Sola were really lucky
to get the director that we had
because he and his staff were extremely understanding of the fact that
we don't have any acting experience they were really patient with us even though
we made a lot of mistakes I think Sola was a lot more natural than
I was don't you think yeah I think you did a better job than I did
Yeah, they really made sure that we felt as comfortable as we possibly could
So after the first hardest scene that we had to do
We just had to be ourselves which made it super easy and simple for us because all we did was just flirt
with each other for the rest of the video
- To the director Doug this is his English name and to the rest of the staff that was
helping us that day I just wanted to say you know thank you so much for this
experience it's a really memorable day for me and Sola and it's something I'm
never gonna forget and again I just want to say thank you so much for the
opportunity I hope to meet you again in the future
Yeah, Thank you so much
Thank you!
Thank you!
So for the rest of you thank you for watching and I hope you guys have a wonderful day

A Purging Of Brutal Death Metal Bands with Regurgitaton - Duration: 14:02.
well then so this is J-Dawg from Hellcast already did that you're bullshiting
probably out all your bullshit in the - in the video oh they probably did
they probably did I heard some of it yeah
Reaper wanted me to do this interview here for you guys
these guys from REGURGITATION Hell's Headbangers' going to be doing the REGURGITATION
Tales of Necrophilia on vinyl I know Brian more than I know
actually Brian's one of the people I met very early on in the
metal scene and general very early actually on you know what this guy he was like a kid
when I met him he'd come in the store but you know out of all the Hells Headbangers what I liked about Justin is he always liked the sick stuff
he'd be like "oh what's that?" oh LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY you know the real sick bands I was like Justin so as I've said
I said on Hellcast before like I get that tag from my brothers and people I
know me like oh he likes those brutal death metal, goregrind stuff
I'm like that's true I like that stuff but I like across the board I like
black metal, I like thrash metal, death metal and heavy metal stuff but I got tagged that
because out of the three of us I'd like that stuff too more so but yeah Brian
was one of the earlier ones that uh I met on that I've got a lot of stuff was
an influence on me so it's gonna be great yes so all you guys that are fans
oh Hell's Headbangers stuff were to be putting out "Tales Of Necrophilia" which was that
was originally put out in '99 I believe right yeah yeah I was a huge fan of it
and still am to this day I mean I still listen to that disc wow that's cool
was very different as for also pressing a CD there's only certain places that
would do it and if you had super sick shit a lot of these places wouldn't do
it so you have to go around and check this place this place and you know check to
see if they would actually print your stuff yeah really touchy it was terrible
like LIVIDITY I remember I put oh yeah and it was like nine places finding the
9th place is ninth place I could finally get somebody to print it
that was the "Fetish For The Sick" yes yes "Fetish For The Sick" and you know REGURG..
was pretty difficult too you know because people didn't want to you know print
that and then finally you get a printer you got okay this guy will do the disk
this guy will actually print this stuff and you know things happen yeah we got a
bad batch of covers had to reprint it again what the whole reader is coming out
that's what I've said it before and I think a lot of people don't know this
and that just it was really advertised the whole thing of Hell's Headbangers
was kind of like the umbrella of just the whole thing the whole title was was
just Hell's Headbangers like all metal whether it be heavy metal death metal
black metal grindcore so putting out stuff like this that's why I like to
bring you know like new other fan bases that you know me personally might take
on it like you know what Hell's Headbangers is doing today is do you
guys have a great mail order people can order a good product you know no matter
what label is from you're gonna get it quick
I mean Hell's is very professional I mean the stuff you guys put out know cause
I've seen it for so many years is professional you guys you know put money
into your releases you make it special and that's the way true death metal is
you know you don't want just some cookie cutter release or re-release you know
like a lot of other stuff you guys did you know as far as you know some of the
MORTICIAN and all that you know the picture disc and all that you know the
full full poster I mean yeah that's cool that's really cool I'm very more than
what they expect yeah not only is it the that's what I think is cuz like people
like myself who's been a fan of it since it came out not always in my opinion we
want it but then they can play a price and I think we whole new generation that
like guys anything heard it you know that day yeah because I've always said
this you gotta keep this in mind guys is like right now there's literally some 14
15 year old as of today getting into this every few years or so there's somebody new getting
I mean they don't fucking know I get asked about it all the time you know
whenever I'm playing shows all across the country
I get asked about it all the time hmm people ask to buy my personal copy oh
really and I don't even have one okay yeah and offering me you know crazy
amounts of money to buy it yeah yeah and I don't even have it anymore so and I
hear every time I go out on the road yeah
multiple times so it makes me feel good because I'm real proud of the release
yeah you know it's a very good album I still listen to it and a lot of the
things that you know I I play on I I don't really like to listen to them but
there's one that it gets spun multiple times a year yeah yeah no I agree and
that's all that style of music I said I do like more that style music than like
my brothers but I honestly do think that that album is the better of that genre
I don't know it was because a lot of its some of them my problem was listening
to stuff my brothers complain about it's just someone's just it's just super
repetitive to where a lot has just become the same old same old which I do think
that was kind of a it wasn't a standout sound of its own I mean was still super
cool but had that sort of dark feel yeah yeah yeah it was a brutal album but
there was a lot of emotion in the music hmm you know you can listen to it and
from track to track it actually you know would make the hairs on the back your
neck stick up yeah you know and that was what was weird listening to it actually
being on it and actually feeling that you know as opposed to like when I was
younger and listened to BLACK SABBATH and I'd go through those emotions
listening to something I was actually on and and having that I mean it was uh it
was a real good experience yeah pissed-off emotions like you know ACID
on me but I love that you know playing that
live you know which I hope that you know we can do some reunion shows you know
happen you know hoping it does everybody gets along I'm sure which I don't see
why you know yeah yeah I mean you know what we try to get along I know you know
there's other members that maybe angry or whatever but you know that seems like
your light goes a lot so we're like brothers yeah each other things that
will always remember so uh you know I always think relationships can be
repaired yeah you know the right circumstances so uh you know I'm hopeful
for it you know I do you definitely be up for two just like Brian is I just
love to jam ya know and he's out for a night all the time and you know I love
playing those songs and I love the reactions we get when we play those
songs and first and foremost I want to give the people what they want mm yeah
you know so if people want it I'm all for doing it
and the women too you know if I did this for women you know I'd be a virgin so
tail off the band no no its death metal Brian was the one always getting all the
tail that way I was always a sweatiest so uh women usually don't want to come
near the guy that stink specially being on the road yeah shower sweating every
night yeah it's not happening see the thing is of that time too I don't know if it
just seems like and then those newer bands of that style I'll be honest I'm
not as in touch with it just seem like that late 90s early 2000s that was the
genre of lack of better terms and I'm not saying it's a bad thing almost like
the trendy thing like you know how like things go up in trends like black
metal's hot, Swedish death metal's hot and that's like
at that time so when you say Texas I could like DEVOURMENT was around so I
could see Texas love that for sure see the trend though was right before that
is all the early death metal bands a lot of them like I could probably name a ton
of names you started wimping out well no they went like black metal okay right
before that everybody went black metal but then certain bands were like you
know what we want to stay sick and keep it sick mmm and they did and that sort
of started to grow because people were like I you know fuck the black metal
trend you know bury the trend and the black metal's gay you know because a lot
of bands you know went that route or some of the like European rock bands
went an even weirder route you know saw was sure certain bands yeah they went to
sick route and I think a lot of people actually really did like that mmm and
they craved more that they wanted that you know tends to be that your sickness
you know that perversion to the music you know so they went that route you
know so I wouldn't really say it's a trend I'd say it's almost what would you
say am I just okay it's a possibility that out of the loop as far as that scene
that would you say as far as that scene like REGURGITATION, DEVOURMENT that
type of stuff it was much more popular in the late 90s early 2000s than it is
now like that's the genre of death metal I would think it became popular as opposed to
early 2000s that then it started to get a little more
popular how do you think it is now as far as like that now some they just isn't like
it was doesn't like it was now I see a resurgence in it I mean you know I have
played a lot of fests the past couple years and and that's the thing is the
fests that are more like the old Ohio deathfest uh-huh they seem to do really
well when they're kind of you know genre specific to the brutal death metal
yeah not to say once do seem like they're doing it very well okay okay and
and that's the thing because uh you know slam is kind of come onto the scene and
they're people that hate slam people that love slam well the thing is is
you've got the guys that are online at social media now that's a slam is
garbage how much they hate it you'll see that same person at the show and when
the slam is playing there oh they're moving all that into it and I think with
a brutal death metal I think that was the thing as people were they couldn't
control it the musical would just make them move you know as long as they'd had
you know good catchy riffs and you know people liked it I think that you know
they couldn't help but actually get it and that's one of the more things that's
very important it is catchy riffs and catchy vocal patterns see that that's
one thing bands miss nowadays especially the brutal death more genre that's why I
said I think I'm kind of out of the loop with it a lot of it yeah I just it's a silly just
got a background yeah just don't have some decent music if they'll throw the
worst garbage vocal patterns over the music that don't even go with the music
or catch the listener and it's the problem this way have a lot of shit
bands out there nowadays you listen to it background yes yeah it's try to be to
they're trying to sacrifice through songs main thing I mean you
gotta be catchy you have to catch the listener and put a listener in a certain
mood you know and if you don't have good vocal arrangements going with that good
music and you don't have that team element going you miss the whole point
dude you're not you are not catching the listener and if you don't catch the
listener you know what they're gonna get your disk listen to it oh cool bro throw
it up to the side they're not gonna remember anything yes there's so many
bands out there unfortunately now that that miss whole element yeah yeah who are
some of your favorites from that brutal genre let's just say late 90s early 2000s
a like like DISGORGE California/Mexico LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY of all that stuff like who
would who is like somebody like your favorites then?
well first LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY I loved obviously DISGORGE like
with DISGORGE you referring to Mexico California both which what did
you like more California you know what there are two different styles I really
can't compare but you know what I like something that was a little different
but was just so brutal they just pumped me up, SCATTERED REMNANTS
SCATTERED REMNANTS in my opinion that's even a little earlier yeah that was what
like 95 yeah of course like you know the MORTAL DECAYs, DEHUMANIZED, oh that disk is
great oh yeah of course even that early PROPHECY stuff I remember when PROPHECY played the Ohio Deathfest
that shit was crazy but he was just hilarious in between what does even
do as he still you don't have to preacher I don't know I really don't
know he's alive nothing um I saw him a couple years ago he still into this
stuff or uh he wasn't playing with PROPHECY but does still listen to this
stuff oh yeah he's still into metal okay
but Phil also plays guitar so I he said he was playing in a band and I couldn't
actually remember you know like tried real hard what band that was okay but he
was also he was kind of playing around with doing like some stuff with
INTERMENT - oh it was his original band from way back in the day which they're
an active band still down in Texas but INTERMENT yeah and most of those people
that you remember from back in the day you still see them at the shows whether
they're in a band now that's active true very true you know what it's kind of like
Cleveland's kind of same way you see a lot of old heads yeah you
you what just like you know a guy like I remember like Rich Lipscomb
like what's like did he go off the deep end? he's a healer now he
he fucked everybody left the scene but you know what
United Guttural did have you know a lot of good releases I you know we had played
with FLESHGRIND many times stayed over at Rich's house multiple times but you
know what he just turned dude totally fucked everybody backstab people yeah
yeah no respect from him now I don't you know and like I said if I seen him I'm
gonna take it as healing crystal I'm shoving it up his ass and then beating his ass I
would I totally would know well that being said guys yeah these are guys
are from REGURGITATION they're doing the LP and we'll probably go watch DEMILICH now
and you're gonna watch DEMILICH Ryan? Definitely

was originally put out in '99 I believe right yeah yeah I was a huge fan of it
and still am to this day I mean I still listen to that disc wow that's cool
was very different as for also pressing a CD there's only certain places that
would do it and if you had super sick shit a lot of these places wouldn't do
it so you have to go around and check this place this place and you know check to
see if they would actually print your stuff yeah really touchy it was terrible
like LIVIDITY I remember I put oh yeah and it was like nine places finding the
9th place is ninth place I could finally get somebody to print it
that was the "Fetish For The Sick" yes yes "Fetish For The Sick" and you know REGURG..
was pretty difficult too you know because people didn't want to you know print
that and then finally you get a printer you got okay this guy will do the disk
this guy will actually print this stuff and you know things happen yeah we got a
bad batch of covers had to reprint it again what the whole reader is coming out
that's what I've said it before and I think a lot of people don't know this
and that just it was really advertised the whole thing of Hell's Headbangers
was kind of like the umbrella of just the whole thing the whole title was was
just Hell's Headbangers like all metal whether it be heavy metal death metal
black metal grindcore so putting out stuff like this that's why I like to
bring you know like new other fan bases that you know me personally might take
on it like you know what Hell's Headbangers is doing today is do you
guys have a great mail order people can order a good product you know no matter
what label is from you're gonna get it quick
Definitely
