And this is Khan al Ahmar, an illegal outpost
one of dozens just like it throughout the Maaleh Adumim region.
It was created by the Palestinian Authority
and is supported by massive European Union funding
As you can see, it's located on a major highway
making it not only impractical and illegal, but also dangerous.
Demolition orders for the very first permanent structure at Khan al Ahmar
the school building, were issued over a decade ago
when it was first built in 2009.
Ever since, the PA has filed one petition after another
all of which were rejected by the Supreme Court.
Israel has spent years and millions creating a new
modern alternative for the residents of Khan al Ahmar
but the PA won't allow them to move.
Quite simply, this piece of land is far more important to the Palestinian "leadership"
than the quality of life of the people living there.
In May, the court announced that ten years of PA lawfare and stalling are enough.
The State was given the green light to evacuate and demolish Khan al Ahmar.
And yet, almost unbelievably
the PA was permitted to use legal petitions to stall - yet again.
We at Regavim believe that the law should be enforced equally
without prejudice and without delay.
This is the only meaningful expression of Israeli democracy
and of Israeli sovereignty.

The Sad Truth About the Turmeric in Your Golden Latte - Duration: 5:24.

If you've spent any time on foodie Instagrams lately, you're probably familiar with the
vibrant yellow of Golden Lattes.
These 'lattes' are usually made with some kind of nut milk and cinnamon, but they get
their color from turmeric, a spice that's been used in Indian cuisine and Ayurvedic
medicine for millennia.
Touted as the next miracle "superfood", turmeric has some bold health claims behind it,
like that it can prevent or even cure cancer.
And while there have been a surprisingly large number of studies conducted on the spice,
The dozens of supposed health benefits of turmeric certainly seem too good to be true.
People and even scientists claim it makes your skin glow; improves brain function; can
prevent cancer, diabetes, and heart disease; and can even cure the incurables, from cancer
to arthritis, Alzheimer's, and more.
But the studies underlying these claims haven't really looked at the effects turmeric-heavy
diets on health.
When researchers study the quote "medicinal effects of turmeric", most of the time,
they're actually using concentrated curcumin, an active ingredient in turmeric, or a mix
of it and similar molecules collectively called curcuminoids.
These are polyphenols—compounds with multiple carbon rings—so they're somewhat similar
in structure to the "healthy" stuff in red wines.
And they also happen to be highly reactive molecules, so in lab tests, they might seem
like they can do a lot.
But there's a lot of contradictory science, too.
For example, it's often said that curcumin has health benefits because it's an antioxidant—a
compound that binds to electron-hungry molecules called oxidants which can damage cells.
But... some studies have found it acts as an anti-anti-oxidant, as it can worsen the
damage of these compounds or even cause damage all by itself.
Such conflicting findings tend to happen with highly reactive compounds because they don't
actually solve a specific biological problem—they interfere with the lab tests being run.
Biochemists have even come up with a special name for such annoying molecules: they're
classified as Pan Assay Interference Compounds or PAINS.
And curcumin earned that cheeky description because despite over 10,000 studies on the
stuff and more than 120 trials testing it for different medical conditions, there isn't
really conclusive evidence that adding turmeric to your diet does anything special.
That's partially because the vast majority of those trials were conducted in rats—and
it can't be said enough that rats aren't people.
While they can be useful to see if something has potential, many rat cures completely fail
in us.
And the trials that have been conducted in people have had mixed results at best, and
vary widely in methodology.
Those that do suggest benefits often have critical design flaws, like that they aren't
double blinded clinical trials.
Those are the "gold standard" studies where neither the experimenter nor the participant
knows whether they're getting the drug or the placebo, to minimize the error that comes
from bias.
And most don't use dietary turmeric, like in a latte—instead, they stick purified
curcumin or curcuminoids in a capsule.
The dose in that pill varies from study to study, from as low as 36 milligrams to as
high as 8000 milligrams per day.
Curcuminoids make up anywhere from 1 to 4% of turmeric powder, so to get that same amount
from lattes, well—let's assume you use a generous teaspoon of ground turmeric to
make your drink.
That weighs a little over 2 grams and contains anywhere from 20 to 90 milligrams of curcuminoids.
So to down 8000 milligrams, you'd have to drink between 88 and 400 lattes a day.
Every day.
That's a lot of cashew milk.
And it's not clear how much of the curcumin you eat actually gets into your bloodstream
so that it can travel around and do the things people claim it does.
That's because curcumin basically goes right through you.
In animal studies, ingested curcumin quickly ends up excreted in feces—which is why you
might have noticed your poops become nice and yellow after eating curry.
And in people, researchers often fail to detect any curcumin in a person's blood, even after
they've consumed as much as 12 grams of the stuff.
While there are a few things you can do to increase how much curcumin your body absorbs,
like eating pepper or fat at the same time, even then it's really unclear if basically
any of curcumin you eat stays around long enough to actually do anything.
All that said, curcumin isn't the only component of turmeric, so it's possible that other
things in the spice, either combined with curcumin or alone, could be good for you if
eaten regularly as a part of a healthy diet.
Probably not like, cure-your-cancer good for you, but maybe a little better than the same
meals without the spice?
And the good news is that turmeric as a food, and even curcumin as a supplement, are thought
to be pretty harmless.
So you can sprinkle a large pinch of turmeric on your latte, and you probably won't experience
any negative side effects—other than maybe some yellow-tinted feces.
And whether you're boosting your health or not, at least you'll get a pretty yellow
Insta out of it.

Earlier this month we had a very successful NAD conference in Hartford,
with over 2,100 people in attendance!
I'd like to take a quick moment to thank some people.
First, the volunteers who provided a lot of support in ensuring a smooth, warm and positive experience for all
-- thank you for all that you did.
Second, the delegates and alternative delegates for the Council of Representatives three-day meeting
-- thank you for taking the time to review, discuss, and get a sense from the community to help us decide
what our top five priorities should be.
Moving forward, we are excited to share what our five new priorities are for the 2018-2020 term:
1) Restoring the Deaf community's confidence in the sign language interpreting profession
by strengthening our partnership with the interpreters.
2) Establish a Task Force with Deaf Seniors of America (DSA) on all aging-related issues.
3) Focusing on Systemic Barriers in Vocational Rehabilitation Services for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
4) National Parent Campaign.
5) Campaign to spotlight the oppression of Deaf people within the justice system.
These are our five priorities and we look forward to working with the committees, Headquarters, and Board.
We are ready to get started.
Within the next few weeks, we'll release more information about joining a committee
for anyone who is interested.

Trump Lies And Says His Poll Numbers Are Better Than Lincoln - Duration: 2:49.
On Sunday, Donald Trump in between tweets about it not be collusion, that it of being
a witch hunt and Mueller, blah, blah, blah, blah.
He tweeted out that he has the best poll numbers of any Republican President every.
Nobody in the history of the United States has ever polled higher within in the Republican
Party itself than Donald Trump is currently polling.
Those poll numbers he's bragging about are the fact that 90% of registered Republicans
are self-identified Republicans, approve of the job that Donald Trump is doing.
And Trump says that those numbers are higher then everybody, including Abraham Lincoln.
He specifically said he is more popular than Lincoln according to these polls, his numbers
are higher, right?
Well, if you consider the fact that Lincoln was assassinated 70 years before presidential
polling began, then no you'd actually still be wrong.
You're an absolute liar.
Not only are you comparing yourself to people who did not live during the time of presidential
polling, which only began during the second term of FDR, but you're still wrong about
your main point that even if we only included Republicans who were alive during presidential
polling, you're still wrong.
George W. Bush hit a high of 99% approval within the Republican Party in January 2002,
a few months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and he had actually hit above 90% within the
Republican Party in the few months before that.
So yeah, you're not the most popular Republican President in history, you're not even the
most popular Republican President since the year 2002, you have nothing to stand on.
Maybe you'll a little upset by the fact that once you branch out from just self-identified
Republicans, a number that is dwindling by the way, that's why it's so high for you and
you go to the general public, we see that you're overall approval rating is 41.9%.
Any other president would consider that a crap number, but you, that is actually your
all-time highest approval in the county.
41.9%, you can't even break 42% in composite polling's of every group in this country.
Nobody cares about your poll numbers man, except for you obviously.
So how about you stop tweeting out the lies and nonsense regarding these numbers that
you don't even understand and maybe you start focusing on how to fix the lies of the millions
of Americans that you have ruined due to your trade wars, your anti-environmental policies,
your horrible FEMA responses to Puerto Rico.
There are a million different problems that you could be talking about, rather than lying
on Twitter about how popular you aren't.
