Beginner Painting Tutorial - Mountains, Lake, Rocks - Duration: 13:47.Hello everyone.
I'm Julia, a self-taught artist.
A couple of weeks ago I uploaded a painting of mine on facebook and a lot of people liked
it and a lot of people have asked me about some art advice and just general questions
about how I painted that painting.
So today I'm here to show you how I did it.
So I'm going to be using this MDF board.
I prefer MDF over canvas because it's smooth.
Apart from that we're also going to be using these reeves paints.
So let's paint.
This is my reference photo.
I've taken it myself and I found it very interesting because of the clouds, mountains, the lake
and rocks.
Just lots of different textures to paint.
So to get started I'm just going to sketch this down very roughly.
I'm not paying a lot of attention to proportions and that kind of stuff.
It's pretty much divided into three areas.
The first area is the sky and the clouds and the mountains then we have the lake and the
third one are the rocks.
So first of all I'm going to paint my sky white.
This is just normal titanium white.
And then I add some blue, first light blue and then dark blue to the sky and I kinda
rub it down from the top so it's kinda like blended.
The part that's closest to the earth is more white.
and then I'm painting my clouds, which I do in this kind of circle motion.
While I'm painting this the sky is still wet.
This way it makes it easier for me to bring a little bit more texture into the clouds
because I'm trying to push the white, pure white to the top and the bottom looks a little
bit more translucent and blue.
So it looks a bit more darker.
And then I start sketching out my mountains and colouring them in with my dark blue.
Okay so once that's done I take a smaller brush and my light blue and kinda work in
the light areas.
When I've got them I take a bigger brush and blend them into my dark blue.
And then cause I thought the dark areas don't really come out that well any more I just
worked them back in.
And more blending.
Once I'm happy with that I start painting my snow white, which I first do with a white
that is not quite pure.
I mix some light blue in and then only paint the areas that are really really bright with
my pure white.
So this is what it looks like so far.
I couldn't record the next step because my battery went flat but to push it further back
I usually paint over the whole thing with heavily diluted white and rub it in so it
looks like this.
Ok so here I've already coloured in my hills with just green, working the darker areas
with dark blue and the lighter areas with a little bit of yellow.
And the trees are also this dark blue and a little bit of green.
I'm using a very small brush for this to get the details and all the trees in the distance.
Ok so next I decided to just colour in the water which I'm just doing with my light blue.
The white reflections in the water I paint with a relatively fine brush and just kind
of draw those lines into the distance.
And for those dark reflection in the water that are created by the hills I just use dark
blue and again a little bit of green just to make it look like it's actually the hills.
For the rest I'm just using dark blue.
To create a bit of a 3D effect I recommend slightly angling the waves that are furtherest
in the front of the picture.
I'm also adding a little bit of green here which is actually just the light blue and
yellow mixed just to you know make the lake a little bit more colourful and a little bit
more vibrant.
So next I'm just starting to paint my rocks, the ones in the distance.
First I just kind of block them in with black and a very small brush.
Now to make it look like these are rocks I use a bit of white and just make a couple
of lines quite randomly and so it looks like there are rocks in the distance.
It's not very detailed but when you look at it from afar it really looks like rocks.
Again these are really random and my brush is also relatively dry so it leaves some more
random spots everywhere and after a while you can really see that texture coming through.
Once I've got the white parts I identify the darkest areas on the reference photo and I
just paint over the white again with black.
Here I'm adding some reflections in the water with black.
And then I paint my tree which is also black.
The next portion of rocks is very similar.
Again it's just black and a little bit of white with a dry brush.
And then there are bushes which I just kind of...
You can see how I do that.
It's just dark blue and green and a little bit of black as well.
And here I'm also using a bit of yellow to highlight the leaves of the bush that are
furtherest back and most likely to be shone on by
the sun.
Next up is the real challenge: the rocks in the front.
I was actually really scared when I painted this first but I found a technique that I
actually quite like and that made it a lot easier for me as well.
So first I'm just blocking this in with white and then I look at my reference photo and
try to identify the darkest spots on it and paint them black.
I just kinda work myself through the foreground like that.
First choosing an area that is very good to find and very easy to work my way through
from.
And this is, again, not very exact, it's not like an exact copy of the photo.
It's just kind of guessing where the dark spots are and painting them on there.
The brush I'm using for this is relatively stiff.
Next up I'm adding a little bit of white to my black to get some kind of grey and just
try to find the areas that are not quite black but a little bit more dark and just work them
in as well.
My brush is already pretty dry when I do this, so again it leaves some random spots which
make those organic textures a bit easier to paint.
And then I start with my white, again I'm trying to use a dry brush and just kinda rub
it in.
The dryer the brush, the better, you know, kinda rub it in and hope that your brush leaves
very random spots of white so it looks a bit more like rocks.
Again I'm looking at my reference photo a lot to see where the white areas are in relation
to my dark areas.
Just to work them in as well.
To put some more detail into the rocks I then use a very fine brush and pure white and just
paint over those highlights that you can see in the reference photo.
And of course it's always good to work all the dark areas again if you can find them
on your reference photo.
I think this method of first painting it black and then slowly working your way through with
white and grey makes it a lot easier to get through this kind of hard area of just you
know rocks that are quite detailed and quite random as well.
I also use a bit of burnt umber to get some more colour into this area that is for now
just black and white.
Here's a close up of the rocks.
As you can see, they are not super detailed but they do look detailed from the distance.
At least I think so.
And next I just finish the painting by getting those really light reflections in the lake
with my pure white.
Well pure, it's kind of diluted as well just so I can get those lines a bit easier.
And that's it, it's done.

Mountain Bike TheTop 20 Brands - Part 1 | MTBT - Duration: 8:44.Greetings to all and well found. It was a long time since I had planned to do
this video, because it often happens to me to see wonderful mountain bikes and not to have
no idea where they come from.
We know that most of them
are made in Asia, where the production cost is cheaper,
what makes the difference is the brand and the quality of the product, product that
based on the materials used and the specifications of construction, is subjected to strict controls
quality that define its value. I found a very nice site, through
which anyone can give preference to the most loved MTB brand, based on the
tests and experiences. The particularity of this site is that the
ranking is not fixed but varies according to visitors' preferences and the online votes
meaning that if you give preference to a certain brand, this brand
could scale the rankings in real time, so it is a list that is subject to time
to change
The list starts from the 50th position, but for matters of time I have only taken into considerations
the models from the 20th position down, into more this topic will be distributed on
2 videos, so in this video we will go to discover the brands from 20th to 11th position
In twentieth position we find Lapierre, the French brand is really beautiful
bike. I had the chance at Eurobike to see them closely and I have to admit that
I was impressed for their elegance
In nineteenth position we find a brand towards which I personally have a true and
just weak. This is Norco, brand Canadian like my Rocky. The bike shop closed to my house
has a small shop full of Rocky and Norco. Every time I go into that store I start
to produce burr in immoderate manners
In the 18th we find KHS it is an American historical brand, and indeed
in the United States the brand is very well known. The headquarters is now in Taiwan,
as well as the entire production. Prices they are medium-low and the medium-high quality.
In the seventeenth we find Fuji The Japanese brand takes its name from the famous
Mount Fuji, symbol of strength and power. After various finance trubles, the head quarter
is moved to Philadelphia in the States US.
In 16th position we find the American Pivot. I must admit it was one of my goals
before choosing Rocky Mountain. MTBs Pivot are spectacular mountain biking.
At Eurobike last year I bet straight at their booth to try the Switchable carbon,
a real war machine.
In fifteenth position we find Cube The German brand is growing exponentially,
thanks to good quality bikes content as they prefer resale
online at the classic shops
In the fourteenth position Diamondback, historic American brand, very famous in
Italy in the early 2000s. With time however the brand seems to have focused on the
American market also opening up to the world of road bikes
In thirteenth position we find Marin, other American brand. I was able to observe them
close to Eurobike and I must admit that they impressed me with their modern design
In twelfth position we find San Gary Fisher
Gary Fisher is one of the founding fathers of this sport.
This man invented the MTB. He currently signs some collections
for Trek
And in eleventh position we find her, my beloved Rocky Mountain. Historical Canadian brand
famous for the quality of its bikes, real master peace.
Rocky Mountain bikes are tested directly to Whistler.
A little like turning with a Ferrari on the Imola trail
And this is it. In the next video we will go to discover the MTBs from the 10th to
the 1st positions. Bye and see you next time
