Hey everybody! In today's video I wanted to recreate
something that looked like a Scandinavian design which is a happy
memory from my childhood. My next-door neighbor was Norwegian - he was also the
pastor at our Lutheran Church and I loved going into his house and seeing
little decorative plates on the wall and tea towels and all sorts of things that
had these fun colorful Norwegian / Scandinavian designs on them. That's the
look I'm going for today now I have the Pinkfresh Studio Playful
Animal Friends 2 set - that's what I'm working with - and I have cut a circle out
of just a card front with a My Favourite Things die - beautiful die I'll link that
to you below and on my blog. I've taken the larger animals from
the set and I'm just arranging them around that circle. Now after I die cut
this circle, I cut a slightly larger circle out of masking paper
which I'll also link you to below with a Hero Arts Circle Infinity die and that's
to protect the area around the circle and you'll see why at the end of the
video.
Now I have this set up on my MISTI and I'm stamping it numerous times to get
these beautiful solid images really well inked.
This stunning blue ink is Hero Arts Indigo -
it's the perfect ultramarine blue I love it.
I want these little guys to be very bright and solid.
So now you can see my mask a little better and there's what the dIe looks
like and that's why I wanted to protect that edge from stamping.
Now I'll take the smaller elements in the set - just little design elements like
this is a balloon and there are some flowers and hearts and I'm stamping
those in Red Hot ink that's from Gina K Designs that is the most perfect red
that I own I absolutely love this ink, and I'm just going to go around and fill in
this design. One of the things that I remember about all the decorative items
in Pastor Otterstadt's house was that they were very clean
designs but also somewhat busy scandinavian design tends to be a little
bit minimalist and clean but I loved the fact that
there was always a lot going on and lots of little whimsical creatures and
whimsical floral elements that filled up those designs.
This stamp set makes this type of design very easy to do because there are some
teeny-tiny images and various shapes and sizes that go well with filling in
around these little creatures. Now you'll notice that some of these creatures seem
to be pointing at something off to the left. I don't know what that something is
but there's something going on over there I guarantee that!
Maybe a treat, maybe some bacon! These two colors work so incredibly well
together. I need to find a perfect yellow so that I have that excellent triad of
red yellow and blue in what I consider to be true colors of those three colors
because you can do a lot with just those three.
Now after I get finished arranging all of these, I wanted to keep the inside of
the card pretty simple because this is such a bright and happy design around
the edge. So the sentiments in the set are also
very clean in a beautiful beautiful font so when I glue this card down the card
front down on to the card base, I'll remove that masking and replace the
little beautiful intricate inside of the circle from that die that you see on the
upper right back into the frame that it cut and then stamp my sentiment in black
inside that frame onto the front of the folded card base and that will complete
my design! So I will remove the masking paper and
you'll see the opening that's left, and then that die-cut positioned back in
there and the sentiment on the card base. So that's my Scandinavian design - thanks
so much for watching!
