A Connecticut State Police bloodhound that went missing for over 36 hours in a wooded
area has been found alive and well.The massive search for K-9 'Texas' spanned a day and
a half and included volunteers on foot and horseback, a police chopper and drone, Connecticut
State Police said.
"That dog is one of us, it's not just a dog," Capt. David Delvecchia said, according
to Fox 61 Hartford.'Texas' got loose as he caught the scent of a missing man near
Wooster Mountain and his handler lost his footing on the steep terrain, the station
reported.
Another bloodhound located the missing man.
"That dog is one of us, it's not just a dog," said Connecticut State Police Captain
David Delvecchia.
"Everyone really came out to help, the community has been pouring in their support," added
Cpt.
Delvechhia.
Homeland Security Special Agent Jeff Kehlenbech found Texas, whose leash had gotten ensnared
in a fence near an unoccupied home, three miles away from where he was last seen.
Texas was found in good condition, stuck to a fence about three miles away in Ridgefield.
Local homeowner Laura Stabelle came upon Kelhlenbech and helped out with the search.
"I looked and he has the dog and leash in his hands and I'm like that's the dog!
I pulled right over where he was waving his arms and I was like get him into a warm car
quick," said Stabelle.
"Our heroes!!!

Special Agent Jeff Kehlenbach of Homeland Security found K9 Texas stuck on a fence on
Limestone Rd in Ridgefield and Laura Stabell of Ridgefield saw the pair on the side of
the road & gave them a ride back to troopers!"

Kehlenbech canceled a trip in order to help look for the dog, state police said.
"I just heard this howling behind me from up the hill," he said, according to Fox
61.
"I searched lakes and ponds for the unfortunate scenario of him falling in."
Delvecchia said the safe reunion has made this holiday season that much better.
"It truly is a wish come true for Christmas and it's just really great to have him home,"
he said.
What a great ending to what could have been a horrible story.
