Going Low Waste I Swaps I Journey So Far - Duration: 11:30.

Hi guys, my new year's resolution was to cut down on waste, plastic waste mainly

but just always in general. We seem to create a lot as a household and it's been,

well we're over six months into it and so I've had a good shot at it and I just

wanted to share with you my experiences. The biggest thing that I've learned is

to not beat myself up over it, even small changes I have a knock-on

effect and if everybody made small changes there would be a difference made.

It's, it's not about being a completionist or a perfectionist and

having like no waste and being able to put all your waste into like a tiny

little ball at the end of the year. It's, it's just about doing what works for you,

I guess. So I thought I would share a few of the things that we've done and what's

worked and what hasn't.

One thing that has been really easy is using a water bottle

and I've just been refilling this from the tap and keeping it in the fridge for

chilled water. It's a glass bottle, it's one of the Voss bottles. I think it's a

pound or two pounds maybe for the flavored water that comes inside this

one. I particularly like because it's got no branding on it and then I was able to

keep the bottle rather than buy bottled water and throwing it away and I just keep

refilling it with tap water and I've got two of these and I find them really useful.

Also in the kitchen I have got rid of my Jcloths, I've always called

them Jcloths those kind of like fabricy cloths that you use for a little while,

they're very thin and then you throw them away. They're usually like a blue check

pattern on them and I have got dish cloths. Now this isn't the first dish

that I've had. I tried knitting my own dish cloth but I didn't use the right kind of

material and it just it just didn't work it wasn't very absorbent, it just kind of

like scratched over the surfaces. So I'd liked the idea of making my own but I

didn't, I didn't get the right type of wool but I ended up just buying a

packet of these cotton ones from Wilkinson's I think there's like eight

in a packet and then I just put them, a big pile of them in the washing machine

at the end of the week which works quite well.

Another really easy swap was hand soap.

It took a while to use at the hand soap that we had and we swapped it for a

solid bar of soap. This is the first bar of soap that we've used and

it's really nice one, it smells kind of lemony though I bought it from Neil's Yead

and I thought it was an almond scent. It doesn't smell exactly like I wanted it

to and it's lasted for ages but it has got a nice a nice fragrance. But I've

recently just discovered like a whole new area that I'd never explored before I've

of luxury soaps so I wish it would, would go down a bit quicker so I could

buy some more which, that's not very environmentally friendly is it but it's

working really well. It isn't as clean and tidy on the side of the sink, it

means the sink needs wiping over a bit more because you get like the soap

scuz on the edge of the sink but it's, it's not a big deal and that one has

been fine. So no problems.

Another one in the

kitchen has been these beeswax wraps so it's a cotton that's soaked in bees wax,

beeswax and you use it instead of cling film or plastic film to wrap things up.

This is a really large one that we use for bread because Trevor always makes

his own bread. He puts this over the top of the bowl when it's proving and he also

then uses it to wrap around the bread. I think they've got a bit of a scent to

them, they've got that kind of honeycomb waxy smell and I don't particularly like

it but it doesn't taint the food, it doesn't make anything taste different. I

just don't like the smell when I've got it wafting around in front of my face.

And it's got a kind of tackiness to it so when you're sticking it around

something it kind of sticks together and we've had these for, this big one we've

had for quite a while and then we bought a few smaller ones which are good for

like smaller items in the fridge like cheese or fruit but this bigger one I

feel it could be losing its stickiness a little bit so I'll see how it fares but I

think we' got this one quite early on so we've probably have this for about five

months umm which we probably would have gone through quite a bit

cling film in that time, so it's still good but I'll, I'm gonna reserve judgement

until we're all the way through to the end of the year on these but in general,

I think you can rewax them or rewarm them, in general, it has been a good one.

I'm fairly sure I've mentioned solid shampoo before. This is a solid shampoo

from Lush and I keep it in the tin. I discovered this last year when I

went on holiday and my luggage was lost and I needed to buy more shampoo but I

didn't want to buy a big plastic bottle of shampoo because I knew I was

going to be going home and the volume of liquid that you can take on the plane is

really small and I bought these Lush shampoo bars it worked really well. When

it gets down to the end it just tends to crumble a little bit so it's awkward

when you're at the last little bit umm to wash your hair but there's no waste

at all with that and I've got at tin, a travel tin to keep it in so I've been

really impressed with it .The other thing that I tried from Lush was solid

deodorant. I haven't got any here now but it was just a solid umm square block of

deodorant that you put on and I didn't get on very well with it. As a deodorant it

worked, it worked well. It was it, you didn't feel sweaty and it had a nice

scent to it but during the winter it was really really cold and I kept it in the

bathroom and I found it took a while to to warm up and it felt like it was

really dragging under my arms when the block of shampoo, the block of deodorant

was cold. It probably would be fine in this weather, in fact I wonder if

it would have been an issue with it melting. It's been so hot. But I couldn't

get along with. It, it was, it was uncomfortable to drag it into my arm in

the morning, it didn't heat up very well and so I have gone back with the

deodorant to using one that comes in plastic packaging which is a bit

annoying. I, I think I could I could give that a go again or try a

different brand perhaps or maybe keep, my bathroom is freezing, so keep it

somewhere a bit warmer. I'm not completely given up on that but it was

one that, it didn't work very well for me and I would like something that did

work. So I'll have to keep trying on that one.

There's been a few other things that

didn't work. We tried having a milk delivery because we generally have quite

a lot of plastic waste. We go through a few cartons of milk and that didn't work

either. We have got a milkman that comes to this

area. The milk was more expensive, it's double the price to have it delivered

than it is to buy it but I was, I was willing to compromise on that because we

we do have a groceries delivered ,I'll get on to that but if we were to buy the

milk from the shop and carry it back it's kind of heavy so maybe it's worth

paying a little bit more to have it delivered. But the milkman delivered too

late he delivered after nine o'clock in the morning and at that time we were

both likely to be out of the house, the milk didn't go off but again it was

earlier in the year. If it was now that milk definitely would have gone off

because it's just been so hot. So given the price that just that didn't work for

us either which wasn't so good.

We have also ditched the tissues and I have been

well, we've both been using hankies instead which work really nicely and we

pop a big pile of those in the washing machine at the end of the week. I'm not

going anywhere near using reusable cloths in the toilet. I think that's a step too

far for me but tissues for hankies is no problem .

So the other big one has been

all of this stuff that I've been washing extra, has been these soap nuts I've been

really impressed with them. They're the husks, let me get them out

of nuts

they've got like a vinegary scent to them and you put them into a little

pouch like a hessian pouch, you tie it off and put that into the washing

machine and they clean your clothes instead of using detergent and instead

of using a big plastic container for that but also just the chemicals that

are in detergent. I have found them really good, I think though most clothes

you might not even use to need to use soap with them because once they've been

rinsed so many times through the washing machine, I think the water does a pretty

good job anyway. There are a few things that I have still

been using umm some proper soap for. I did switch to reusable sanitary

products so I wanted to use soap for that

and sometimes when I wash the towels if they've got like a bit of a musty smell,

I still prefer to go for soap although I do think I could still I could use

the soap nuts. I guess, I'm just getting my confidence with them and you've got

this really big bag. I think it was a kilo bag which was ten pounds and the

big laundry detergent that we would use would be about ten pounds - and so far

this is lasted us a good five, six months.

I think that is pretty much everything

that I have changed and and as I say all of those things have been working quite

well. There's a couple of areas I would still like to improve one is

toothbrushes. I've heard a lot of good stuff about the bamboo toothbrushes but

we haven't needed new toothbrushes yet. We already had some toothbrushes

set aside, plastic ones and so in the future I would like to try the bamboo

toothbrushes. And then there are a couple of areas that I just don't think that

I'm doing very well in and the one is having my groceries delivered from the

supermarket . It's, it's a tough one with this because it is just so convenient

for us to have it delivered. We live about half an hour out of town and we

don't have a car so when we go shopping in town which is definitely the place to

go if we're going to be low waste because you can go to the greengrocers

and you just buy the bananas that you need and they don't already come wrapped

in plastic and you can go to the butchers and they'll wrap it in paper for you and

it's definitely the way to go but it means we have to then carry that

stuff back here which is, it's time-consuming because you can only get

a little bit at a time and it's just not convenient so having things delivered

from the supermarket does work really well but it comes with so much plastic

waste and I've tried to swap a few little bits so I can pick up a few bits

in town but I think the lifestyle change that it would take to get all of my grocery

shopping on foot in town, it's just not, I can't seem to fit it into our life right

now. It's not, it's not working so I've still been buying from the supermarket.

I think that's everything, that's all of the changes that we've made most of them

are quite small things and have been really easy to implement as I

mentioned at the start of the video the biggest thing is just doing what works

for you. Right now the supermarket shop is

working for me and I'm gonna look at ways to implement it, probably if we had

a car it would be easier to get it but then there's like the balance of how

efficient is it run in a car versus having your groceries delivered once a

week? They come in a lot of plastic. I don't know, it's not about doing

everything. It's just about making little changes and that's the way I'm going to

continue to go forward. Let me know in the comments below if you have made any

swaps or any other ideas you have that we could possibly implement.

Thanks for

watching guys. Bye bye

Breaking Down Hip-Hop's Love For Patek Philippe | Genius News - Duration: 2:13.

TIA: Luxury watchmaker Patek Philippe gets a lot of shine in hip-hop.

Artists from Beyoncé to Migos have all name-dropped the brand.

Although Audemars Piguet, Hublots, and Rolexes get plenty of shout outs too,

2017 was definitely the year of Patek Philippe.

A third of the songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2017 included a Patek reference,

and the trend continues in 2018 with 13 songs charting so far.

TIA: Migos' 2018 Culture 2 references the high-end watch 28 times, with 24 references from Offset alone.

So, what's the hype?

Patek Philippe is a high-end Swiss watch manufacturer

known for its intricate designs and traditional craftsmanship.

Patek Philippe has been lacing royal family members for over a century,

but the watches are rare items—fewer than 1 million have been made since 1839.

It takes over a thousand watch school-trained employees to make one exclusive piece,

and only 50,000 are made each year.

On top of that, each of those watches can take anywhere from 9 months

to more than 2 years to make.

So, how much will a Patek cost you?

You'll have to cough up at least $5,000 for older, pre-owned models but the most expensive

Patek sold to-date was auctioned for $24 million dollars.

We spoke to the people over at Icebox in Atlanta, one of hip-hop's go-to spots for jewelry,

and got some insight on Patek Philippe's biggest styles and trends.

Patek Philippe beats out other brands like Audemars Piguet and Rolex as the most popular

luxury watch.

Plain, iced out, and two-tone Pateks are common among these watch-loving artists,

and the Nautilus seems to be the most popular model.

TIA: Hip-hop continues to be a trusted compass of the culture.

These Patek addicts don't hesitate to flex their latest obsession,

and we can count on their lyrics to know what they're on next.

The Okay So Booksically (Tipsy) Tag - Duration: 16:26.

hi hello my name is Oly Bliss and this is my channel #Bookdraw and for those

you don't know I enjoy looking at queer fiction today I am doing something

entirely different but not because I'm doing a tag but I'm doing a tipsy tag

which is one of those tags where you feel like is it slaying I should really

be putting on you my channel and is it something that's actually I shouldn't be

doing at all that's probably something I shouldn't be doing at all but back in

February and we're now in July I said or I was I was tagged into it and like my

partner she says just because people ask you to do things you shouldn't do them

cuz it's something that I'm working on but and if you know what I mean it's

July so I've taken my own sweet damn time to do this tag right now I've been in a

situation where I've gone out unheard of he drinks I'm alone in my hotel room

through work I had a wonderful evening I went out to see some performances in

Newcastle for curious festival which is a queer festival some spectacular

performances too and I add details below I talked about supposed to be talking

about Tag yeah and afterwards I had a few drinks and the whole point of this tag I

believe is that you are supposed to do this tag when you're hit see and I have

waited for that kind of moment where yeah you're tipsy enough to have a go

but an about tipsy enough to actually hold a camera and be arsed

because I have spoken to Shawn in the past and via

messaging and stuff saying I'm okay I've had like a drink

he's like why aren't you doing the tag because too drunk but now I'm at that

kind of level where it's about right where I can just be like okay

lets to the tag I've been trying to I was trying to because I had taken the

picture on on this phone about the questions and wish I haven't even looked

at me I'm gonna read through the questions and do the okay

booksically tag the tipsy version and share with you my uncensored opinions

about the okay let's just do this so there are there are no questions okay so

tell us about your user blog channel name and your real name so my real name

is Oly Blss there is a story behind that though so I spell it Oly basically

because I had a massive crush on my CDT teacher as he did he is craft designing

technology and the guy who was leading that class was an Italian not Stallion

Italian guy called I should say should i but basically so he was my teacher and

he was the first person he basically spelled my name

O-L-Y and i'm aware that he was like me dyslexic and i was just like oh that's

kind of cool and basically why was massively into him because it was very

attractive he had dark hair but he was very approachable and very friendly and

at that time I was very unusual because I was very kind of young and awkward and

he also played piano and he was just at a high school cuz he went outside around

the corner and he would smoke fags and as a kid seeing a teacher do that I

never went and smoked with him but I was kind of like at that age not smoking

school it's totally ridiculous to do end up killing yourself as kids but yeah he

was very attractive that features of olive skin dark eyelashes but

anyway that whole illusion has completely gone because couple years

later I'd left gone to college came back I was probably about a foot taller than

him and the moment was gone of course I had I have literally

outgrown him physically and mentally and emotionally and everything else but for

some reason from the age of 15 and I am in my 30s now I am still spelling my

name that way Oly and so that's my name and also

easier on the characters so there we go open instagram and search and chat about

the first three images I don't think I can do okay look okay so I've got I've

got like I've got Twitter but instead I can't do Instagram because that's in

this phone and if I did that out that won't work

I will look at some images which were in here instead several consuming images

there's a picture of a tires a car that is not what anyone is interested in that

isn't advert people that is very disappointing with all social media like

how they've embraced that if literally takes a tweeted a picture of an

overturned toilet which there's fucking mayhem at Hebden Bridge today this is

get this shit box away from the houses no joke like that is that is

actually what it says as proof I got even making that up

oh and there's the picture of Juno Dawson who is a wonderful human being and

a massive general advocate for all things LGBT and then third person is

someone- Brian Thomas who has a new profile picture which is that to even

remember like signing up to him so there you go I hope that was interesting for

you? mmm okay open YouTube and talk about

first three videos I can't even do any of this? Bare with Bare with another advert

of cadbury inventor and it's got a black woman who's about to eat a slice an

underrated Vine compilation because I still love Vines I know they're gone

but I literally I can't help myself at all and then mojo the top ten scenes

sorry the top 10 worst scenes in parody movies oh and it's got an image of I

forget her name but she's the woman from Hunger Games who were Effie Effie it is Effie

isn't it? what something like Effie I love mojo it gives me all the juicy

gossip okay so the next question your favorite song to listen to while reading

writing and how many plays it has got I am massively like a mood listener in

turn and a mood reader but right now I don't know why because I used to really

enjoy it but like been really listening to Ariana One Last Time I don't know why

but I am loving that right now and I've only recently actually yeah he sat down

and listened to the lyrics properly? because it's pretty messed up she like

literally wants to sleep with whatever guy and she knows that like she's with

he's with whoever he's with and she just wants to get in there and she knows that

even if he is in her heart that she just wants that one last night and before I

because like she's so like high-pitched and you don't even hear what she's

saying it's just like I love this I love listening to this

and now I'm like oh that's actually quite problematic by still it's it's

worth of boogie and it's lovely in terms of Ariana Grande and what she represents

for Manchester I suppose but she's just she's she's really good fun she can sing

she can sing so good so there we go okay favourite book on your shelf at at

the moment I have no shelf I have a low shelf I'm in a hotel but in my bag right

now I have got Simon Savage book related to night wood which we're going to be

doing for quite quite early watch out for that I'm also listening right now to

Sarah Walters pay guests with the Lauren's um

aka Whitey and Crock and pair of them we

had this whole like goal situation for the days where we were gonna be on

target and none of us are living up to those targets right now I'm enjoying

what I'm listening to you so far so yeah I'm sure they're my favorites right now

favorite bookish thing you love using as a as a probe in your pictures and videos

a prog what favorite bookish thing you love using as a prop in your pictures

and videos like I was not supposed to be prop okay so like in my normal videos

where I'm at home I'm on my little seat and I've got a

slug behind me which has got a little fairy lights and I'm basically enjoy

having that because provides lighting in the back and the slug has a little bee

of Manchester and and it's also queer because it's long and disproportionately

sized so it's not like one equal size or round but I think the slug will be

changed into a new slug but it's just called slug okay number

seven three books that you are dying to reread but you probably never will

reread so yes this is on my mind just because like had previously watched a

video with Todd the Librarian he was amazing

and I'd very much enjoy being in the state with him and just hanging out with

him he's a very cool dude but he is gonna be doing Northern Lights which I

haven't actually read but I have watched the movie and I know this is like a

thing that people are angry at me for doing but I cuz I was on holiday I just

picked up my little sister's look for the second one the despite us so I'll

know it's the Subtle Knife isn't it so I I started reading the stuff and the

Subtle Knife and I hadn't actually read the first book and I was of course very

confused while they're in a different place in world and I've never so far got

around to reading that first book and will I ever I don't know people don't

seem overly first by the book of dust to be fair and and I'm just wondering will

I actually got around to it because there are so many other more interesting

things to probably be reading that harsh but dying to rereads other I like I

really enjoyed actually the tales of Narnia I guess I'm just on a kind of

fantasy plane right now but and because some of those latest stories were lovely

and they had quite like nostalgic kind of messaging when you're a certain stage

in life and then you're no longer able to enter Narnia and I feel like maybe

the doors of Narnia are closed to me but I would have loved or I would love to go

back and hang out with them all taking in the last book when it's all kind of

closing down and but there were some just lovely messages in that too in

terms about growing up going on I don't

know but eight amazing bookish finds this can be books bookish things or

bookish moments um

fines can I just pass I don't feel like I've chatted on anyway bookish things

all the things do you know what it is is like going into a charity shop and just

in being able to have like a nice little scout and then you see that book which

you've kind of been like I really wanted actually this is like with the

grasshopper jungle because like it's one of those books which I'm like and I knew

that book existed and it's one of those books which I've heard a lot of really

positive things and I was really exciting to be able to like get it and

get it for cheap that's always like a little reward so I think like yeah like

charity shopping and finding those hidden books are always cool okay so hot

hottest authors and author crushes that guy who did Gaupa I forget what his

name is what it was his name I I will add it below he's fine like he's in you

know how he's fine in black and white but then I've also seen some color

images of him and was just like oh so the lighting whatever was doing it a lot

maybe it's just cause he's beardy actually that Benjamin I want to say

Mars or Miller? He's very beardy an interesting-looking and I saw him doing

a talk Bradford Literature Festival and he's

quite fun too I'm sure there are others I just I can't

think of them all quite no quite nice quite quite right now um

yeah no I'm not I'm not massive on the bookish brushes and I think him I'm just

more probably drawn to the beards anyway anyway I hope this was a good enough tipsy tag

okay if it feels like I'm like not very clear in any way right now I

just want to say hi to Shawn and hi to everybody else who was part of the

mirror-Muriel Spark's comforters reads it was massively fun to do it all with you

but also a big shout out to Shawn I finally got on and did it so I hope it's

been a worthwhile wait all right bye

Renewables in Germany (Energiewende!) and Nuclear in France (Clean Energy!) - Duration: 2:18.

We have to phase out carbon emissions at the rate of several percent a year

I don't see any way we can do that without the help of nuclear power.

If we look today, at the subject of warming, the way

of fighting against global warming is fighting

against the CO2 one emits. The use of fossil materials.

What is the problem? Fossil fuel and coal.

They will be closed.

Which power plants? All fossil fuel and coal power plants in France.

[Coal and fossil fuel] will be closed because they are bad for emissions.

Nuclear is NOT bad for CO2 emissions.

Even today with renewables, [nuclear is] the most de-carbonized way to produce electricty.

Look at Germany there's a lot of data.

It's progress is very slow.

compared with the examples of where they've moved to nuclear

the big advantage is that [nuclear] is essentially carbon-free energy

France's international priority to Europe is the emissions of CO2 and warming.

In this context, my priority is closing [coal and fossil fuel] power plants.

I'm closing a nuclear power plant tomorrow.

It's NOT true that I can replace it with renewables.

Why? Because nuclear provides us with electricity continuously all year round.

Renewables are intermittent energy.

The people who argue for 100% renewables think that

if we can go from 0% to 10% to 20% renewable then we're on the way and we'll get to 100%.

well it is actually HARDER NOT EASIER because of the intermittency of the renewables

What happened when Germany suddenly shut down nuclear?

They developed many more renewables than us, we are late.

But they have massively reopened fossil fuel and coal.

They have degraded their balance of CO2 emissions. It was not good for the planet.

I will not do that. I have this first commitment [CO2].

You've suffered a loss of funding because of your pro-nuclear position?

Yeah, that is pretty obvious.

Was there ever a moment when you were like

maybe I need to shut up about nuclear power

so I can get my funding back?

How much renewables can do and at what cost

that will become clear over the next decade or two

but by that time it may be too late.

That is why we have to make the story clear as soon as possible.

Here's What Beans From "Even Stevens" Is Up To Today - Duration: 3:03.

- Bacon?

Bacon?

- Hi guys, my name is Steven Anthony Lawrence

I was Beans on "Even Stevens."

Everybody has a Beans in their life

or they are the Beans.

If you can't think of one you are.

- That's one of the top three fake cries I've ever heard

and two of them belong to me.

- Thanks.

I've got skills.

- You know you work five days a week with people

for four years and it's a set like that,

you become very, very, very, very close to people.

You know, it was like a family.

There was not a dry eye

in the studio on the last finale.

Shia has a wacky side.

Maybe I like him because I kind of have

a wacky side too, I guess.

But, you know, he has a huge heart,

he'd literally give you the shirt off of his back.

I still lived in Fresno, actually,

when I was shooting the show.

My dad was driving me back and forth,

you know, putting a lot of miles on cars.

Shia one day just kind of surprised me with an Xbox

on Christmas.

- Well from now on,

your name is Beans.

- Why Beans?

- Kid, a nickname is not supposed to be logical,

see, it's supposed to be fun.

- The audition process was pretty cool, actually.

You know, you have pre-reads

and then you have your call backs.

My thing, my personal thing that I always did

as an actor, as a kid at least,

was I kind of feel out the room,

see if they were kind of in a rush or not,

if they were kind of connecting.

Then I'd ask if they wanted to hear a joke.

So, I told this pirate joke.

There was a pirate on a ship,

- And the ship was a rockin' and a rollin'

and I fell off me ship.

And a killer whale came and bit off me leg.

And I said to him "How'd you get the hook?"

It was the first kind of stunt thing I had to do,

they lowered me down like "Mission: Impossible"

while the girls were sleeping.

It was the most jerry-rigged stunt ever.

It was like one of those pulley systems.

All this grip needed to do

was for me to just piss him off one day or something,

and go (grunts).

I am still doing classes.

I do only charge 40 bucks a week.

I teach kids, I teach all ages.

Anybody that's hungry.

I think it's a big, big, big blessing

to get kids to start learning technique at an early age

instead of just making faces in front of the camera.

We underestimate kids.

Kids can be pretty darn smart at times.

Maybe.

Maybe, I can't actually say anything right now about that.

Chatbot Basics: The Conceptual Stage of Bias Bot - Duration: 7:47.

Hey everybody! We're getting ready for our next session on bias bot. So just to

get you in the mood again, in the chilly climate mood that is, we are working on

professional development that will help us with these constructs of implicit

bias, chilly climate, microaggression and online disinhibition. What we're really

trying to do is flip the script and use AI, bots and algorithms to combat bias

racism, and sexism. We've come a long way from this first session and our next

session we're going to do an intro to chatbots. We have a little pre-work

before we get there. And it'll be fun. I promise, because we're going to be playing

with chat bots. Chat bots are a computer program and really what it's

trying to do is trying to simulate a conversation with a human user. Now how

it does that is through messaging. Messaging is that chat interface whether

you use it on your phone whether you have messaging through Facebook and maybe

you even use snapchat. But the whole idea is that it's

conversational. This really all became possible by

virtue of AI or artificial intelligence and it's through these two things. It's

through artificial intelligence through natural language processing and machine

learning. So because we've gone so far with this

we now have chatbots and we have lots of people developing chatbots. Those

simple chatbots, well they just work on pre-written keyword. Now business chatbots are a little further developed. Business chatbots while I'm talking

about this I want you to also think about in the context of a learning

management system. When we're doing discussion forums these business chatbots, they are usually case specific. They have a use case meaning. They're talking

to one particular kind of customer about one particular kind of thing. Now think

about how we'd be doing that if we develop a chat bot for a discussion

forum that's specifically supposed to be for doing implicit bias training. Now

these business chat BOTS, also they they pretty much know what might be asked. So

when we're thinking about our chat bot what is happening in that discussion

board. What would our chat bot as a student

need to be able to do? Business chatbots, hey, they're starting to get personality.

They're beginning to feel like you're texting with someone actually there.

Some mobile games are totally based on that, where you feel like you're texting

with someone. And the business chatbots adapt based on demographics. Aagain so we

should be thinking about how we we would be able to do this in a discussion forum

with faculty members. There's lots of chatbots.

I want you to go out there and start looking at some of them. I picked the top

three chatbots search engines to show you go in and play it. Take a look at

these things. The first one that pops up here is chat bottle. And why did I chose a bottle

, because chat bottle actually has chat bottle awards. So please go into

that search engine. Type some things. Type discussions. Type some other ways you

think a bot could be used. So for the pre-work also go to there.

for a bot. Come on, look at these pictures. You know you want to go in

there. You know you want to find that cat bot that's sitting right there on the

slideshow. Okay so go into thereisabot forthat. And I know this might sound

really geeky, but you know what go in with your family and friends. I do.

Go in and make it a shopping trip for chatbots. But I want

you to get a feel of what's out there and what's possible because we might be

able to do the same thing. I also want you to go ahead and take a look at botlist.

Okay they feature a lot of bots. Go ahead and see what they're pulling up. So

you see what's becoming popular. For the rest of your pre-work, first of all I

know you do slack or you know someone who does you slack. Okay what I want you to do go

into slack and make your own slack team. Feel free to invite some other people

too. Go ahead and test out. Yes it's a productivity chat bot so I really

want you to go in and see this. Take a look at at it and think about what

features from this would be great for us as we're developing our chatbot. Also

discord once again, I know you have discord or you know someone who who has

discord - that person in your family who plays minecraft or League of Legends or

Overwatch. They have discord. Go ahead make an account in discord. It gives you

what they call it a server. Go ahead and put a chatbot into

the server. Now I just pulled this up. just because here's the thing with discord. It is

a gamer Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP). They're going to be a lot different than

slack. Actually they're even chattier than slack. I just pulled this up because

there is an article out there on five dumb things you can do with discord. If you have time go ahead and take a look at that but what I'd really like

you to do in discord server. The one I really want you

to try out is something called Chatty Cathy. The reason why is it is solely

there for conversation. When you're doing this please keep remembering our

project. Our project is implicit bias and online microaggression. We're

doing the conceptual stage of creating a bias bot. Think about what the

user experience would be like when you go and play with these two bots. Think

about what your experience is like. Jot down some notes. Take some

screenshots. Invite some other people to come play with Chatty Cathy or obie. The

other thing is remember if we're going do this kind of training; we are going to

have to have the bot represent students. The bot is how going have to be rude

sometimes because we are doing online incivility. When it comes to this part

we're only doing stage two but I kind of want you to keep your eyes on the

goal at the very end. We want to build our own chatbots and to be able to do

that we are going to develop our goals. We're going to have to pick a

channel. We're going to choose. We could use some ready-made chat bot software or

build a chat bot from scratch. We're also going to be looking to develop the

algorithms of the chatbots and its action. We will definitely need a database of answers

and then we're going to have to find volunteers to test this chatbot. So for

this pre-work download and go and play with Obie. Remember that is slack

so that's productivity. Then go into discord with Chatty Cathy. That is your

pre-work. Go ahead and post screenshots on our Flickr account. Go ahead

and put things on your Twitter account. I will see you at the next session. Thanks

a lot. See you online.

"F" Train Survivor Exclusive! - Duration: 7:06.

>> GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO

"METRO FOCUS."

I'M JENNA FLANAGAN.

>> THE NEW YORK COUNSEL CONVENED

FOR A HEARING INTO THE TRANSIT

CRISIS THAT ENGULFED THE CITY.

DESPITE UNVEILING AND EMERGENCY

PLAN TO STABILIZE THE SYSTEM,

DECLINED TO TESTIFY BEFORE THE

TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE DESPITE

REQUESTS OF THE COUNSEL SPEAKER.

THE AIM OF THE HEARING WAS TO

PROPOSE SOLUTIONS AND ONE MAN

THAT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO

VOICE HIS VIEWS WAS ACTIVIST

MICHAEL.

BUT IT WASN'T LONG INTO HIS

TESTIMONY UNTIL THE CHAIR OF

THAT COMMITTEE SHUT HIM DOWN.

>> WILL YOU AND THIS BODY CRAFT

A LEGISLATION TO MAKE IT SO THAT

THE MTA INFORMS THE PUBLIC ABOUT

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES

TO FIND SAFETY?

IS THAT SOMETHING YOU WILL DO?

>> THANK YOU, SIR, I'LL TURN OFF

THE MICROPHONE AND THANK YOU.

AS YOU KNOW, THE COUNSEL WE

DON'T HAVE POWER TO --

>> LEG --

>> EXCUSE ME.

YOU ASK ME THE QUESTION.

WE'RE GETTING INTO A ONE ON ONE

NOW --

>> IS THAT A NO, YOU WILL NOT

TAKE UP LEGISLATION FOR THIS?

>> CAN YOU DO ME A FAVOR, TURN

OFF THE MICROPHONE.

>> MICHAEL WAS CAUGHT ON THE

INFAMOUS F TRAIN THAT DERAILED

AND LOST POWER FOR AN HOUR IN

JUNE AND HAS BEEN WRITING TO

LAWMAKERS TO EXPRESS DISGUST.

JOINING ME NOW IS MICHAEL.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US ON THE

SHOW.

>> THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

>> FIRST TELL ME WHAT WAS LAST

NIGHT'S TESTIMONY LIKE?

WAS THAT EXPERIENCE LIKE FOR

YOU?

>> IT WAS INTERESTING TO HEAR

THE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE

CITY AGENCIES AND THE CITY

GOVERNMENT BICKERING OVER

FUNDING, WHAT PAID FOR WHAT, WHO

DIDN'T PAY FOR WHAT, WHO TOOK

MONEY FROM THIS AND DIDN'T

RETURN IT.

IT'S DESIGNED TO CONFUSE THE

PUBLIC AND UNFORTUNATELY, THAT'S

WHY EVERYBODY IS SUCCESSFUL IN

AVOIDING ACCOUNTABILITY.

>> AH-HA.

DID IT BOTHER YOU AT ALL THAT HE

WAS NOT THERE TO HEAR WHAT YOU

HAD TO SAY?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

YOU KNOW, I SENT HIM A LETTER

BASICALLY REQUESTING THAT WE

HAVE EMERGENCY AND EVACUATION

SIGNS AND DIAGRAMS POSTED

THROUGHOUT THE TRAIN SYSTEM.

I HAVE YET TO HEAR A RESPONSE

FROM HIM.

THEN HE DIDN'T SHOW UP AT

YESTERDAY'S HEARING.

NOW IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE

HE'LL GO OUT ON TELEVISION AND

BLAME THE CITY FOR NOT PAYING

THE MONEY.

WHEN IT COMES TIME TO DEFENDING

THAT OPEN SESSION AT THE CITY

COUNSEL, HE WAS NOWHERE TO BE

FOUND.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS QUITE

TELLING.

>> DID THE COUNSEL HEARING FOR

YOU FEEL MORE LIKE A P.R. STUNT

OR SOMETHING TO QUAIL THE

PUBLIC'S ANGER?

>> IT SEEMED LIKE A GENERATED

EVENT TO LUMP EVERY ASPECT OF

THE PROBLEMS TOGETHER INTO ONE

DAY, SO THAT THE CITY COUNSEL

CAN CHECK THAT OFF THEIR LIST

AND SAY HEY, WE HAD A HEARING ON

IT BUT WHEN YOU GET DOWN INTO

THE BREAK IT DOWN INTO PIECES

FROM, YOU KNOW, THE EVACUATION

PLAN, DIDN'T GET MUCH ATTENTION,

IT WAS MOSTLY A BICKERING FIGHT

ABOUT WHO IS PAYING, WHERE IS

THE MONEY GOING TO COME FROM AND

DIFFERENT IDEAS TO FUND PHASE

ONE AND PHASE TWO.

>> ALL RIGHT.

SO YOU MENTIONED THE PLAN AND

SOME OF THE THINGS THEY CAME UP

WITH FOR THIS TWO-FOLD PLAN THEY

WILL IMPLEMENT.

ASIDE FROM THE FACT IT WILL TAKE

TWO YEARS BEFORE ANYTHING

STARTS, WAS THERE ANYTHING YOU

FELT WAS LEFT OUT ASIDE FROM

SOME THINGS YOU MENTIONED

ALREADY?

>> SO I WAS QUITE HAPPY THAT

SOME OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS THAT

I MADE IN MY LETTERS TO THE MTA

CHAIRMAN MADE IT INTO THE 30-DAY

PLAN THEY CAME OUT WITH, BUT ONE

NOTICEABLY ABSENT ASPECT OF MY

RECOMMENDATIONS WAS MY MAIN

ISSUE, WHICH IS THE EVACUATION

PLANS TO BE POSTED THROUGHOUT

THE SYSTEM.

PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS

GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE EVENT OF

AN EMERGENCY.

HOW DO YOU GET OFF A TRAIN?

HOW DO YOU NAVIGATE A TUNNEL?

HOW DO YOU FIND THE NEAREST

EMERGENCY EXIT?

INSTEAD OF TAKING MY RECK

--

RECOMMENDATION, THEY CHOSE TO

HAVE A PSA ANNOUNCEMENT ON NOT

LITTERING.

ANY NEW YORKER CAN TELL YOU, WE

KNOW WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO

LITTER.

IF YOU TAKE AWAY THE GARBAGE

CANS FROM THE STATIONS, THE

LITTER WILL END UP ON THE TRACKS

SO THAT'S AN EASILY SOLVABLE

PROBLEM.

WHAT IS NOT AN EASILY SOLVABLE

PROBLEM IS THE CONFUSION THAT

PEOPLE HAVE WHEN WE ARE STUCK IN

A TUNNEL AND IT COULD BE A

TERRORIST ATTACK, A DERAILMENT,

A FIRE OR A FLOOD.

WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO?

>> SO THEN WITH WHAT THEY ARE

DOING RIGHT NOW, ENCOURAGING

PEOPLE NOT TO LITTER SO WE DON'T

HAVE THE INCIDENTS THAT WOULD

CAUSE THAT, ISN'T THAT AT LEAST

A STEP FOR YOU OR IS THAT NOT

ENOUGH?

>> SO THE WAY I VIEW IT IS THAT

THEY ARE MORE READY TO BLAME

RIDERS FOR THE PROBLEMS.

IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO HOW THEY

SPEAK, THEY BLAME IT ON LITTER.

THEY BLAME IT ON INCREASED

RIDERSHIP.

THEY BLAME IT ON THE WAY RIDERS

ENTER AND EXIT DOORS.

AGAIN, IT'S A LOT OF BLAME BEING

PUT ON THE RIDER.

THE RIDER IS PAYING FOR A

SERVICE.

YOU'RE NOT PROVIDING AN ACTUAL

SERVICE THAT WE'RE PAYING FOR.

I BLAME THE MTA.

IT'S THE TRACKS.

IT'S THE SIGNALS.

IT'S THE MALFUNCTIONING OF THE

POWER OUTAGES.

IT'S NOT THE LITTER.

IT IS NOT THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T

KNOW HOW TO ENTER AND EXIT A

TRAIN.

WE'RE ALL NEW YORKERS.

WE'VE BEEN ON THE TRAINS A

MILLION TIMES.

WE GET IT.

PEOPLE NEED TO GET ON.

PEOPLE NEED TO GET OFF.

THERE IS LIMITED SPACE ON

TRAINS.

SO YES, PEOPLE WILL HANG OUT BY

THE DOORS.

>> OKAY.

LAST QUESTION BEFORE WE WRAP UP

HERE, CONSIDERING THE FACT IT

LOOKS LIKE THE MTA WILL TAKE

MANY REOMMENDATIONS NOW, IS

THERE ANYTHING YOU PLAN TO DO TO

GET THE WORD OUT THINGS LIKE THE

EVACUATION PLAN NEED TO HAPPEN,

ET CETERA?

>> I TESTIFIED YESTERDAY AT THE

TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE HEARING

ON THIS.

I HAVE WENT AND TALKED DIRECTLY

TO RONNIE HAKIM AND ASKED HER

WHY IS THIS NOT IMPLEMENTED IN

THE SYSTEM?

WHY HAVE I NOT RECEIVED A

RESPONSE TO THE LETTER ASKING

FOR THIS TO BE IMPLEMENTED?

SHE TOLD ME SHE HAD NOT SEEN IT

BEFORE, WHICH WAS INTERESTING, I

SENT IT OVER A MONTH AGO, FIVE

WEEKS AGO AND ALSO, I'LL BE

PUSHING OTHER COMMITTEES AND

TESTIFY TO OTHER COMMITTEES.

I'LL PUSH THIS ISSUE BECAUSE

EVERYONE I SPEAK TO AGREES THAT

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD

HAPPEN AND IT'S VERY SIMPLE TO

SOLVE.

YOU PUT OUT A CAMPAIGN.

YOU PUT UP DIAGRAMS THROUGHOUT

THE SYSTEM.

YOU PUT ADVERTISEMENTS IN THE

TRAIN AND YOU GIVE OUT

PAMPHLETS.

IT'S THAT SIMPLE.

WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO.

WE NEED TO BE INFORMED, NOT LEFT

IN THE DARK LITERALLY AND

FIGURATIVETY.

>> LISTEN, MICHAEL, THANK YOU

FOR GIVING US YOUR

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WHAT SOUNDS

LIKE AN INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING

EXPERIENCE.

>> THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

>> THANK YOU.
