Four of the Apocalypse (1975) - Movie Review - Duration: 5:25.
Hi, I'm Torstein from Cinema Terror and today I will be talking about the spaghetti western
Four of the Apocalypse from 1975.
In Four of the Apocalypse we meet a gang of four outcasts that join together on a journey
throughout Utah after they have bonded together in prison.
The group is spearheaded by the professional gambler Stubby.
With him is the young prostitute Bunny, the drunk Clem and the mentally handicapped Bud.
Their long journey through the deserted landscape is filled with danger, especially when they
come across a ruthless bandit named Chaco.
The objective of getting safely to their destination becomes even greater when Bunny let's the
group know that she is expecting a child.
Spaghetti westerns is a genre I have been meaning to explore more for quite some time
now, but never gotten around to actually do so.
So what could be better than to dive into it today with a western from a filmmaker I
am familiar with, and I am talking about the goremaestro himself Lucio Fulci of course.
What I expected from mid-70's Fulci here was a rough and tough western with plenty of violence,
gunplay and rape.
And while some of that is to be found every now and then in this movie, I was surprised
to see just how tender and emotional this film was.
It's not about the violence or tough men with guns in this film, rather it is a nice story
of characters that are given enough room to grow to make you care for them by the time
the movie is over.
Most of this has to do with how likeable Fabio Testi is a Stubby and his chemistry with the
beauty Lynne Frederick as Bunny was impeccable.
It's hard to imagine that these two weren't in fact real life lovers and I was not surprised
to read that there were rumours of the two bonding out of character as well on the set
of this film.
A big reason of why I chose this film, except the fact that its director is Lucio Fulci,
was the fact that the antagonist Chaco was portrayed by the always awesome Tomas Milian.
Milian has everything that an actor needs and can do whatever you want, from being funny,
dramatic, intimidating, just everything.
His part in this film is not that big and it did leave me wanting to see more of his
character Chaco.
What I would have done is made the third part of the film be more about Chaco versus Stubby,
oh and of course give Stubby a more heroic name than...
Stubby.
For some reason the final part of this story takes place in a small village and they go
more or less for emotions and a sappy ending than giving us something thrilling and exciting.
I disliked this part a lot, especially after getting so invested in the main characters.
I would much more have prefered them to be in greater danger and of course, more Chaco.
I would also have prefered it if they didn't include the now dated 70's hippie rock songs
that they had.
It didn't work well with the western atmosphere that the movie takes place in and felt like
they were added more to trick people into thinking this might be an American movie,
then to enhance the scenes they are used in.
One thing Fulci does great is setting up the mood and atmosphere in his movies, which he
also does quite well on this one, so the music choices took me a bit out of the movie for
the very few scenes they were in.
It is also noteworthy that this movie was the start of a long lasting collaboration
between Fulci and his Director of Photography Sergio Salvati.
Lucio Fulci's Four of the Apocalypse is a good character driven western that surprised
me due to my previous experiences with this marvelous, but violence loving director.
While I would have prefered the final part to go in a different direction, this was still
overall a nice experience and while I already knew so, it did confirm that I absolutely
need to start checking out more spaghetti westerns in the future.
Four of the Apocalypse gets a 3.5 out of 5.
Have you seen Four of the Apocalypse?
What did you think of it and how do you think it ranks compared to other Italian westerns?
As mentioned, I am not an expert on this genre so if you got some recommendations to me then
I'd be interested to read about it in the comment section below.
Thank you for watching.

Stephen Paddock: What we know about the Las Vegas shooter|K CHANNEL - Duration: 8:56.
Stephen Paddock: What we know about the Las Vegas shooter
Police have identified Stephen Paddock as the gunman who opened fire on concertgoers from a hotel room in Las Vegas, killing at least 59 people and leaving more than 500 wounded in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S.
history.
Paddock, 64, began shooting from two windows on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino just after 10 p.m.
local time Sunday evening, police said.
A SWAT team found Paddock dead in his hotel room and believe he killed himself.
Police said Paddock had at least 23 firearms in his hotel suite.
He had been staying in the room since Sept.
They said another 19 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, explosives and electronics were found at his home at a retirement community in Mesquite, Nevada, about 75 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Aaron Rouse said in a press conference Monday morning that the bureau had found no connection with an international terrorist group.
The motive was still under investigation.
Police identified a female companion of Paddocks named Marilou Danley, who was overseas at the time of the attack.
Police spoke to her Monday.
Danley is not believed to have been involved in the shooting.
Paddock had no criminal record beyond a routine citation several years ago that was handled in court.
Eric Paddock, the gunmans brother, spoke to reporters outside his home Monday morning.
Eric Paddock said he is horrified and dumbfounded by his brothers actions.
No religious affiliation.
No political affiliation.
He just hung out, Eric Paddock said.
He had a couple of guns but they were all handguns, legal, he told reports.
He might have had one long gun, but he had them in a safe..
Eric Paddock said his brother was a multimillionaire who made much of his money investing in real estate.
He said his brother was an accountant for many years and he wasnt aware of him having financial difficulties.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Eric Paddock said his brother was not a normal guy and last had contact with him in September in a series of text messages.
He said Stephen Paddock played high stakes video poker and once texted him a picture of him winning $40,000 on a slot machine.
Eric Paddock confirmed to multiple outlets that Stephen Paddocks father was Benjamin Hoskins Paddock, a notorious bank robber who was on the FBIs most wanted list for eight years after escaping from prison in 1969.
He once tried to run down a federal agent with his car and was serving a 20-year sentence for a string of robberies in Phoenix when he escaped.
An FBI poster about the elder Paddock at the time called him armed and very dangerous and he remained on the bureaus list until 1977.
He died in 1998.
President Trump called the shooting an act of pure evil in remarks Monday morning.
He hailed first responders and said that the FBI and Department of Homeland Security are working with local officials in the investigation.
He did not refer to the attack as an act of terrorism.
Investigators are still trying to determine Paddocks motive.
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the shooting, but offered no proof.
U.S.
officials tell CBS News there are no signs that Paddock had ties to radical Islamic groups or showed signs of being radicalized.
Police obtained a search warrant for his home in Mesquite and are securing the site, a law enforcement source said.
Records show Paddock moved to Mesquite, Nevada, in June 2016.
He had previously lived in Reno, Nevada, from 2012 to December 2016, and was listed at an address in Melbourne, Florida, from 2013 to 2015.
Paddock moved between Texas and California from the late 1990s to the early 2000s.
The Associated Press reports Paddock lived in Mesquite, Texas, from 2004 to 2012.
Brian Parrish told the AP that property records showed Paddock lived in the Dallas suburb during that time period and possibly longer.
He said Paddock owned at least three rental properties in the area, and police found no indications of interacting with Paddock while he lived there.
Paddock worked for a predecessor company of defense contractor Lockheed Martin from 1985 to 1988, the company said.
Lockheed said it was cooperating authorities to provide details of his employment.
The company declined to say what position Paddock held.
Court records show Paddock sued the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Resorts on the Las Vegas strip in 2012, alleging he suffered substantial injuries when he slipped and fell in the hotel.
The case was dismissed by both parties, indicating they had reached a settlement.
Paddock was a licensed hunter and had a license to fly a small plane, records show.

Las Vegas massacre: More weapons found, but no motive|K CHANNEL - Duration: 6:47.
Las Vegas massacre: More weapons found, but no motive
After the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, the evil of one person was countered by the benevolence of countless others.
Heroes risking their lives to save strangers.
Blood donors waiting for hours to help the wounded.
Vigils from Reno to Las Vegas, where 59 country music fans were killed on the Las Vegas Strip late Sunday night.
Another 527 people are still trying to recover from injuries -- everything from gunshot wounds to stampede injuries suffered when 22,000 people tried to flee the gunmans aim.
No one knows yet what caused 64-year-old Stephen Paddock to inflict such mass tragedy.
But based on what authorities have found, he may have been planning something even worse.
In the gunmans 32nd-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, police recovered 23 weapons, including a handgun and multiple rifles -- some with scopes on them.
Authorities also found several pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used to make explosives, in his car.
And at Paddocks home in Mesquite, Nevada, police found at least 19 firearms, explosives, several thousand rounds of ammunition and some electronic devices.
So far, police believe Paddock acted alone -- which could make the motive harder to determine.
Kimberly Folle, who was there, said she heard the gunshots at the beginning of an Aldean song, but didnt think others heard it because the music was so loud.
It sounded like it was coming from the sky, Folle told CNNs Jake Tapper.
Its gunshots. Its gunshots. Get down.
Get down, she said she told people around her.
The music combined with the gunshots confused many people.
Some people didnt believe it was real.
Some people thought it was fireworks.
Some people thought it was a speaker, survivor Rusty Dees told Tapper.
Some people were in shock..
Dees and Caren Mansholt were standing just to the right of the stage when they heard the shots.
At first, Mansholt said, she thought it was fireworks, but saw nothing in the sky.
Once they started realizing that it was gunfire, Mansholt tried to hide under a seat.
On the main floor, everyone was covering but there was no cover, they were all exposed, Dees said.
So, you didnt know if somebody was shot or if they were laying down..
Many made terrifying dashes to the exits.
Frantic concertgoers piled on top of each other, trying to get out of the shooters line of fire.
In the life-or-death situation, Dees said people were trying to take care of each other.
It takes the worst of America to also see the best of America.
Everybody was helping each other, he said.
Corrine Lomas also recalled the heroism of fellow concertgoers who risked their lives to save others as strangers pulled each other to hide and tended to the injured.
A lot of really good people (were) holding peoples wounds shut, trying to help them while everybody was just ducked down, she said.
The firing went on forever, witness Kimberly Chilcote said.
She and her husband ran in short bursts -- sprinting and hiding to avoid being targeted.
There were purses and shoes everywhere.
there were bodies and blood, she said.
We just kept running..
Taylor Benge said he could see a guy with a bullet wound right in his neck, motionless, several feet away.
From there on.
people just started dropping like flies..
