So I think it's fair to say, that we all have those times in our lives
that try us to the very core.
What we choose to do during those times of trial defines our discipleship.
I'm Nathan Pacheco and this is my 5-Minute Fireside
One of the hardest things to do, is find the humility and the strength
to accept whatever trial it is that we're up against.
Now, this doesn't mean defeat or that we give up on our dreams;
it simply means that we turn to a higher power and acknowledge that we can't do it on our own.
So, one of my favorite hymns is, "How Gentle God's Commands".
I think it's the third and the fourth verse that I love so much, but it goes,
it simply asks the question.
♪ Why I should this anxious load ♪

♪ Haste to your Heav'nly Father's throne ♪
♪ And sweet refreshment find. ♪
And then the fourth verse goes,
♪ His goodness stands approved, ♪
♪ Unchanged from day to day; ♪
♪ I'll drop my burden at his feet ♪
♪ And bear a song away. ♪
I love those lyrics; I think they have so much meaning to them.
So, 'Haste to your Heavenly Father's throne'
We don't use the word 'haste' very much here in the U.S.
It's more, kind of, Old English like,
'Make haste! Make haste!' (British accent)
(Laugh)
Kinda basically, you know, 'Hurry up! Hurry up!'
'Haste to your Heavenly Father's throne' is basically, you know, 'Hurry up!'
What are you wasting all this time about trying to fix it, solve it on your own?
Go to Heavenly Father, and let him help you out.
So in my opinion, one of the most beautiful things that we can experience in life is a change of heart.
You know, I believe that we've all had those times that are about to break us.
I think it's perfectly okay to feel those negative feelings, if you will.
To feel bitter to feel angry and to kind of go through that grieving process.
But I also believe that there comes a time
when we have to choose; do we want to stay in that place with that darkness,
or do we want peace?
The times in my life where I
have found the humility and the strength to to ask the Lord for a new heart
two things have happened.
Either, I have realized that what I wanted was there all along
but I couldn't see it, I couldn't recognize it
with my hard and bitter heart.
Or I became the kind of person that I needed to be in order to
receive those blessings from the Lord's hand those blessings that I could have
never received with a hard and resentful heart.
So, one of my favorite quotes is from Elder Anderson;
and if you don't take anything else away from what I've been talking about,
just take this little snippet away and you'll be good to go.
Because in one sentence he basically sums up what I'm trying to talk about.
He says, 'The surrender of our will to God's will is in fact not surrender at all,...
but the beginning of a glorious victory.'
I believe that the Lord wants the best for us.
And that's one of the things that kind of inspired a song that I wrote recently.
You know, Jesus taught if we lose our lives we'll find it.
I was kind of thinking well what if you know instead of working tirelessly to get what we want.
Instead of just, you know, killing ourselves to bring about our desires and our dreams;
what if it's less about working our tails off, and more about turning to the Lord?
And so that kind of inspired this simple song.
It's called, "Laying It All Down."

♪ You were born for greater things ♪
♪ I believe we all have wings ♪

♪ But lay it down and let your heart be free ♪

♪ What if it's by surrendering ♪
♪ That we show that we believe ♪
♪ What if it's in letting go, that were really holding on ♪
♪ And that we finally see that he's been there ♪
♪ Holding us all along. ♪
So simple words, simple lyrics, simple message,
but in the end it kind of just sums up everything that
we've talked about just now.
well, if there's anything that we truly want and truly desire, or if there's any burden
that we want to be freed from.
The answer has been and always will be, the Savior Jesus Christ.
So, thanks for joining me.
