Hey guys, it's Octavia here, and I just wanted to share a little bit about my Younique story
how I got started with Younique, where I've been, and where I am now.
Younique's mission is to uplift, empower, and validate, and they've lived up to their
mission.
I joined Younique sort of on a whim.
I was working full time, and I loved what I did helping people, but it just drug on
for over 11 years, and I was just burnt out.
Social work.
I was really happy to find this opportunity, and it came at the perfect time.
I want to touch on the Younique foundation.
Younique has a retreat that helps women who were sexually abused before the age of 18.
Statistics are one in four women have gone through this in their life, and I know from
firsthand experience that it's more than one in four in Native American communities.
I know many, many family and friends that have gone through this trauma as a child.
I know it's hard to talk about, it really is, I just wanted something ... I wanted to
be a part of something that was bigger than myself.
Helping either, when I buy my makeup, I just round up to donate to the Younique Foundation,
or I can donate at any time.
The retreat is a place for healing, where women can go and they can heal.
That's just one of the many reasons why I love Younique.
They're heart-centered, which aligns with everything that I stand for.
Octavia: Younique has given me a sense of self-confidence.
I really didn't know much about makeup.
I learned on Oprah when Bobby Brown was on the show.
I was like, "Okay, crease color and lid color and all that good stuff."
That's how I'd been doing my makeup ever since, and I don't wear makeup, still to this day,
very often.
88% of the time I'm bare-faced, because I'm confident in how I look and how my skin feels.
After joining and learning a lot about makeup, self-taught, I went back to school to become
an aesthetician.
It was hard to take that leap of faith, knowing that this was my passion, becoming a makeup
artist.
After I finished with school and became an aesthetician, I thought, "Well, there's something
that I've always wanted to do in my life, and I think I should do it."
So I went out and I got some head shots, and I applied and got signed by a local talent
agency for acting and modeling.
Before Younique, I would have never had the confidence to do anything like that.
I always thought about it, and I thought it would be cool, but never dreamed that I would
actually take the steps to do it.
I've met the most amazing women I call my friends.
Some of them are like friends, some of them are like family to me.
I found my people.
I learned that I don't have to just sit back and let life happen to me.
I want to go out there and chase my dreams and realize my goals, and not just think about
it.
"Oh yeah, one day, if I had more money or had more time I would be able to do these
things."
But I realized I would never get there with what I was doing, working my nine to five,
never getting a raise.
You know, things like that.
I just knew it wasn't for me anymore.
I sat down and wrote out what my dreams, what my aspirations were, and how I would get there.
First of all, I needed more time.
Second of all, I needed more money.
That was my main goal.
With Younique, I never pressure anyone to buy any ...
Wow, okay.
There's hundreds of thousands of different makeup companies that we could all purchase
from, and I'm not a salesman.
I'm not looking just to make a quick buck and be like, "Bye, see ya later.
Got your money.
That's never been how I operate.
I'm truly passionate about this company, about their mission, and I want to help others feel
beautiful.
You don't have to be a makeup artist.
I became a makeup artist after.
But you know, like Jess, for instance, she's like 100% tomboy.
She hunts, she fishes, she's just like rough and rugged.
She joined the company, and she's at the top now.
So now, she can go hunting and fishing whenever and do whatever she wants, because she has
the time and she has the money.
I realize that everybody's journey is different, but to get there, you have to have a way.
You have to have a vehicle, and I'm just letting you know that's what Younique has provided
for me.
Thank you guys for listening to me today.
I just wanted to share a piece of my journey with Younique, and share a piece of my heart.
That's about it.
All right, chat soon.
