Youtube daily report Jan 17 2019

Hello, my name is Agne Juskenaite and today in #GeekPropaganda we are going to answer

the age old question

What's the difference between a GEEK and a NERD?

For the ones who have been living under a rock

Both, geeks and nerds, are people of their niche

in which they have their own lifestyle, hobbies, clothing styles and so on

But(t)!

These two are really similar, yes

and today we will try make it clear once and for all

on who is who and what is what.

Before we start: if there is a geek living in your heart too, don't forget to subscribe to GeekPropaganda

I upload geeky stuff every week.

Also I want to thank the PATREONS of this channel

Without you - none of this would be available!

Thank you a lot and now - to the first point of the list.

1. The Clothing

Stereotypically - and only stereotypically, that doesn't have to be your or mine understanding of "real"

But, we usually imagine nerds wearing some kind of blue or gray button up shirt

put inside of the pants that go all the way up to their armpits

with glasses older than your grand-grandmother and so on

They dress like their style came from watching their grandpa dress up

and, if I can say so

they do really care less about how they look.

Geeks, on the other hand, are usually a little brighter on their clothing

usually we imagine geeks wearing colorful T-shirts

maybe sneakers with different laces

or anything that has animation on it

At this point, Geeks kinda "win" in the eyes of society

because of their "cooler" looks

but hey, it's not wise to judge a book by it's cover.

2. Terminology

In 19th century's America they had travelling circus that had a program called "Geek Show".

Today we know it y a different name - Freak Show.

In 1975 American dictionary there was only one description for the word "Geek".

"A carvinal performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts...

...as biting of the head of a live chicken".

This description is still IN the dictionary today.

But now it's one of five possible descriptions.

Four others were created when "geek" as a term for a "strange person" was taken by technologies and hobbies

and so it became the term we know today.

Of course, I have no idea, maybe someone's at home has a hobby to eat live chicken from the head down...

That was a strange fact for me too, ok.

"Nerd" as a term, has a few possible origin stories

There is a funny story that once "nerd" was written with a "K" in front of it

You don't pronounce the "K" obviously

and with "U" instead of "E". Anyway, it was pronounced exactly the same .

Notice, that KNURD is the exact opposite of DRUNK.

So the story tells that "Nerds" were the ones who

didn't drink during the parties and were boring or difficult to talk to - NERDS

I don't really believe this is true story

and another, more serious origin story tells us that

term "Nerd" first appeared in 1950 book "If I Ran The Zoo" by Dr. Seuss

I can't comment on a book that I haven't read

but in the same year the term "nerd" had this meaning of a boring, old-fashioned person as we know it today

3. Knowledge orientation

The way of thinking is very important here.

Geeks and nerds often like the same things.

That's why we have such a big problem with telling them apart.

Geeks are more "collection" oriented in the way they think.

Means, they like to "collect" things, memorabilia, facts or knowledge about their favorite topic.

Just like I like to collect every Joker-related.

Or like if some super-mega-turbo Star Wars geek

would learn every single person who played stormtrooper in Star Wars movies

Just so he or she could brag about it to other geeks.

Nerds, on the other hand, are more goal-oriented.

They like to know their stuff in theory and practical means.

Means, while geeks will argue about who would win

400 stormtroopers or the Spiderman

Nerd will learn about lightsabers and make a working copy for himself at home.

4. Different way of knowing things

Both geeks and nerds can be interested in a similar topic

but at some point they will choose a "side" of the topic they are more attracted to.

For example, both geeks and nerds can be interested in computer stuff.

But when we talk about professional programmer or IT professor, we talk about NERD

And when we talk about computer games, newest technology trends or even vlogging - we think "geeks"

You can't deny it: nerds do actually have a bigger need for knowledge and intelectual activity.

and then geeks can be called "the fans" of their topic.

For some reason I'm thinking about Steve Jobs

A nerd who created something all geeks love and praise

5. Society

If I forget all the stereotypes and look at this seriously, I honestly can't understand why,

but statistics show that 87% of people preferbeing called "a geek" instead of "a nerd"

Next to that, 60% of people younger than 20 years take "geek" as a compliment

Why does society reject the ones who seem to be more intelectual, educated and overall smarter?

Leave your opinion in the comments below.

To conclude this:

To collect: whatever would it be, figures, comics, shoe laces, facts - is geeky

Academic topics, like math, physics, biochemistry and other scary word - nerdy

Intellectualism - geeky

but education is more nerdy.

Newest IT technologies and trends - geeky

but deeper knowledge of it - nerdy

Pop culture - obviously geeky

but creating a working replica of time machine from "Back to the Future" in your garage...

Super nerdy.

Anime, manga, comics, animation - yes, very geeky

but if you are fluent

in that one dialect

that was literally used once in that one anime TV show

That's extra nerdy, ok.

And so on!

I hope we managed to draw at least some kind of line between these two terms today

Which one - a geek or a...

*Dogs barking*

Which one - a geek or a nerd - you'd say you are?

I, personally, think I have a part of both, but in public it's definetely the GEEK I'm showing off.

I'll be reading your answers in the comments below. See ya!

Vocal Steamer: Why and How to Use Mabis Steam Inhaler - Duration: 10:14.

Do you want to know an easy way to soothe your irritated voice, hydrate it directly

and reduce vocal fold swelling so that you can continue singing even if your voice doesn't

feel great?

If your voice is feeling under the weather or if you just want to keep your voice healthy

for many years to come, you should be using a vocal steamer.

In this video, I am going to tell you why you need to use a steam inhaler.

You will also learn why Mabis steam inhaler is my preferred personal steam inhaler and

I will show you a neat little trick to get even more steam for a better effect.

So, make sure to watch until the end.

Hi! It's nice to see you again.

For those who are here for the first time, I am Katarina from How 2 Improve Singing and

here on this channel, I share tips on how to use your voice in a healthy and efficient

way.

So, if you are new here, consider subscribing to my channel and hitting that bell notification

below this video so that you don't miss any of my videos.

And I am curious to know if you've ever considered using a vocal inhaler or if you

use one.

Leave me a comment below, I would love to hear from you.

Steam inhalation is a widely used method to get relief from cold or flu symptoms.

It's also called steam therapy and it uses warm water vapor to loosen dry and thick mucus

from nose, throat and respiratory system.

Here are some of the known steam inhalation benefits: it decreases inflammation of the

throat, it liquefies thick mucous secretions that are easier to remove either from your

nose or your throat, it reduces coughing and it dilates blood vessels, which helps healing.

But did you know that steaming has many benefits for the health and function of your voice?

It is actually a very easy and effective way to keep your vocal instrument hydrated.

So, I recommend steaming to singers and voice users on a regular basis.

Steaming is the only method of hydrating the vocal folds directly.

When you drink water or any other liquid, the water does not come into contact with

the vocal folds.

And it takes hours and days to hydrate internally when drinking water.

But when you inhale steam, the water droplets come into direct contact with the vocal folds

and hydrate them immediately.

Well hydrated vocal folds vibrate smoothly and more efficiently.

It takes less pressure to set them into vibrations, so that means that you need to use less effort

when producing a sound.

Also, well hydrated vocal folds change their shape more easily than dehydrated vocal folds.

And when we sing, we need to change the shape of the vocal folds on a continuous basis.

And here is another benefit: hydration makes the mucus covering the vocal folds thin.

And I am sure you can imagine that thick mucus is something no singer or professional voice

user wants.

So, as you can see there are many benefits to steaming your voice.

Here are a few examples of when singers can use a vocal steamer:

- To rehabilitate a tired, overused or injured voice; steaming is an excellent method to

help healing - To reduce vocal fold swelling, for example

when you experience hoarseness - To rehydrate a dehydrated vocal instrument

quickly and easily - To relieve symptoms of allergies, sinus

infections, cold, flu, head and chest congestion or other infections

- To keep a vocal instrument hydrated in dry climates or during the winter season when

homes are heated and the indoor air becomes dry.

I made another video about voice care in winter, you can check it out here for more tips.

- But singers and voice users can use a personal steam inhaler on a regular basis as a preventative

measure, even if they do not suffer from any vocal or health problems.

And this is what I strongly recommend to keep your voice in a great shape.

Inhaling steam as a treatment option is not a new idea.

It dates back to ancient Egypt, which is known for its bath houses and steam rooms.

And you've probably heard about, seen or even experienced steaming over a boiling pot

of water or steaming in a hot shower or bath.

Well, today we have another option: personal steam inhalers.

And in this video, I am going to tell you about my favourite steam inhaler Mabis.

Here are 5 reasons why I like this particular steamer:

#1.

It's easy to use, and I will show you how to use steam inhaler shortly, including a

trick that will produce even more steam.

#2.

It's a portable vocal steamer so it is a good steam inhaler for singers who travel

for their gigs.

It's not the most portable steam inhaler but it's small enough to fit it into your

luggage and travel with it.

#3.

It's safe.

When you are inhaling steam from a pot of boiling water, you need to be very careful

not to burn yourself.

This danger does not exist with this personal steam inhaler.

#4.

It's a good value for the money.

It's around 30$ US or 50$ CAD at the moment.

There are cheaper inhalers but they are not as powerful as Mabis steam inhaler.

And of course, there are more expensive ones but this inhaler does everything you need.

#5.

It's efficient.

It produces quite a bit of steam and it takes only about a minute to heat the water and

produce steam.

Ok, so let's look at the unit together.

This is how to use Mabis steam inhaler: It's quick and simple.

Just add a little bit of water to the inside heated water compartment.

You really need only very little water to produce enough steam for 5 to 10 minutes.

This is about 25 ml.

Here is another compartment for adding essential oils.

You can actually buy different steam inhaler essential oils.

But if you are starting with steaming, I recommend using just water because some people may be

sensitive to certain types of essential oils, and water is safe and effective.

And here is a little trick that I promised – instead of essential oils, put water or

even saline water into this compartment for even more steam.

Then plug it in and wait for about 1 minute until the steamer will generate steam.

Inhale either through the nose or the mouth.

If you want to reduce dry or thick mucus from your nose, breathe through the nose.

Otherwise, you can breathe through the mouth or alternate breathing through the nose

and mouth.

Now, once the steamer is ready, instead of slouching

over the steamer, align your body well so that you can inhale deeply.

When you are hunched, you are not able to take full breaths.

You don't need to put your face too close to the mask, because the steam gets hotter

the closer you are.

Steam for about 5 to 10 minutes twice a day for best results.

Added bonus?

Your face gets steamed too, your pores get a natural cleanse and your skin will glow!

So, what do you think?

Would you consider using a vocal steamer for singers?

I will leave a link in the description below so that you can check out the Mabis steam

inhaler.

Or if you know about other inhalers that you prefer, let me know in the comments below.

Also, if you want to learn which vocal behaviours to avoid to keep your voice healthy for many

years to come, click this link or a link in the description below and get a free vocal

hygiene handout.

In my next video, I am going to explain vocal fatigue.

What it is and how to take care of a tired voice.

Create a vision board | It's Time - Duration: 8:38.

(alarm clock ringing)

(upbeat music)

- It's time.

It's time for you to start living your dreams.

And the only way that you're gonna be able

to do it is if you have a clear path.

(upbeat music)

Now I've seen people create vision boards

and honestly I'm not gonna carry around

a big huge board that has a whole bunch

of magazine pictures stuck all over it.

I want my vision to be so clear that I can write

it down on a little sticky note and put

it in my bathroom to be able to look at it every day.

And I wanna show you how you can do that too,

specific goals that will help you

to get to your dream and live that vision

that you've had in your head even faster.

Don't forget to like, share, subscribe,

all that social media stuff, and let's get started.

(whooshing)

When I was in my early teens, I was at a girls'

youth activity and we were all talking about

what we wanted to be when we grew up.

And each girl had a chance, one by one by one,

to talk about what they wanted to do when they grew up.

And each girl, like, girl after girl after girl,

started saying, "I wanna be a stay-at-home mom."

Every single girl.

I'm not gonna lie, I started to get

uncomfortable, I started to fidget, and honestly

I was starting to sweat.

I had a feeling that what I was about to say

was going to completely isolate me.

And I just kept thinking, "Blend in.

"Just say what everyone else is saying.

"Blend in, Alison, blend in."

I was already awkward enough.

I had braces, metal-rimmed glasses,

this crazy perm that was held back by a scrunchie.

And then it was my turn.

My brain told me to, like, sit down and not make

a commotion, but guess what my body did?

It stood straight up.

And I blurted out, "I wanna be a mom

"but I also wanna be the CEO of a big company,

"make millions of dollars, and have my office

"on the top floor of a building."

And then the silence came after the mouths had fallen open.

And I don't blame anyone for what happened next.

I just don't think they knew how to handle me.

They didn't know what to do with me.

I've always been a big dreamer and this went

against everything that was being taught.

They asked me to sit down and they went back

to the girls who one after the next kept saying

that they wanted to be a stay-at-home mom.

Now, I am not bashing those dreams

of the stay-at-home moms at all.

If you think that's where this is going, uh,

no, no, no, no.

Everyone has their dream and has a vision.

God planted dreams in our hearts and in our minds

and it's up to us to go out there and get them.

Mine was just very, very different

from everyone else's that day and I just didn't

know that it was okay to be different.

Those dreams that made me feel so different

and so uncomfortable, I'm so grateful

that I had them because I've hit all

of those dreams except for the one

with the office being in the top of a building.

I don't really want that one.

I have four kids.

Just too much.

Just let it be on the ground level.

And I know those visions that we start putting

in our heads are the ones that we get to live

in the future.

So here's my challenge to you.

That dream that's in your head, that vision

that's in your head, it's time for you to go and get them.

The more that you think about them, the better

chance you will have of actually living them.

Have you ever dreamed about making a million dollars?

Have you ever dreamed about having

a house cleaner come clean your toilets for you?

Have you ever dreamed about going on a service

trip where your whole focus is to serve people?

And have you ever thought about why you wanted those things?

Money's just paper, right?

But what will the money make you feel?

Is it security, less pressure, the ability

to provide, or the good feeling that you'll have

when you go over and do a service trip?

Why the house cleaner?

Is it because it'll help your brain feel

organized and you're not looking over

a dirty kitchen and thinking, "Oh my gosh,

"I gotta do this, I gotta do this," and get overwhelmed?

Like, why would you, what were the feelings

that you will feel if you get the things

that you are dreaming about and envisioning?

And if you keep filling your brain with a,

"I don't have enough money.

"I don't have a house cleaner.

"I don't know how to do this, I don't know how to do that."

There is no room to add in the, "I am a millionaire.

"I do have a house cleaner."

Fill your brain with the positives

and your outcomes are going to be so much different.

Each year, I review my vision board.

It's not resolutions.

It's a vision board.

And this is what I look at for an entire year.

And I actually write it down and look at it

every single day.

Now, if you're thinking about going to Pinterest

and getting all, like, this big poster

mumble jumble, no.

It's a simplified one that you can look

at every single day, and it's simple and it's easy.

And I wanna show you the three things to help

you narrow down on your vision so that you

can get them in a much faster time.

And I've actually got a sheet right here

for you, a free PDF.

All you have to do is click the link down below

and it comes to you in your Messenger.

Pretty magical, right?

(laughing)

And these are the three steps to help you

to really narrow down on what you want to accomplish.

Number one, be specific.

Don't say I wanna be rich.

Rich can mean so many different things, right?

Some people think rich is rich in love.

Some people think it's rich in food.

Some people think it's rich in money.

Be specific about your vision about what you want.

You could say, "I want a million dollars

"in my bank account," or "I want to hire a house cleaner."

Very, very, very specific things that you know

when you reach that goal, you have hit it.

Don't be vague.

Number two, you're going to add a feeling behind it.

So if you want to have a million dollars

in your bank account, why?

It's just paper, right?

Why would you want that in your bank account?

Does it provide you that security that you want?

Does it provide you, oh my gosh, I just hit

this amazing accomplishment?

Write down how you want it to make you feel.

Let's go back to the house cleaner one.

I want a house cleaner so I'm not worried

about cleaning toilets and I can spend time

with my children, quality time, quality

relationships versus trying to figure out

where the toilet bowl brush is.

Number three, make it easy to review.

You're not gonna carry a big poster board

around your whole life, right?

Make it so simple.

Write it on a paper.

Take those and put it in your daily journal.

Stick it on your mirror where you brush

your teeth so you can be reminded every single

day of the vision and of the dream that you

are supposed to live.

God gave you a vision.

He gave us all unique visions and dreams.

And it's there, we just have to go get it.

And if we write this down, then every day

we will know the path to help us get there.

And we'll be less distracted and be able

to accomplish what we were meant to do.

Okay, so you guys, it's time.

Write it down.

And it doesn't matter when you see this video.

If it's the first of the year, if it's in March,

if it's in July.

(laughing)

Take a second to write down your vision

so that you know where you're headed

so you can get that, so you can live that life.

I hope you like this video.

I would love to know some of your visions

that you have down below in the comments.

I read all of them.

I love them.

They are so fun.

And don't forget to like, share, subscribe,

all that social stuff.

And I will see you guys next week.

Bye.

There's a hard way and an easy way to process payroll in Dynamics GP #PayrollAndAfraid - Duration: 1:58.

In life, there's a hard way and an easy way to do everything.

The same is true for processing payroll with Dynamics GP.

Can you help me with this?

Sure.

Manually calculating the impact to an employee's paycheck when they want to

make tax withholding changes.

Using Integrity Data's Paycheck "What If" Calculator

to very quickly help employees through those payroll modeling questions.

Setting up multiple 401(k) deduction codes to manage employees utilizing the

catch-up provision and manually calculating a tiered match to the 401(k).

Utilizing Integrity Data's Enhanced Retirement Plans

to automate those calculations for you in Dynamics GP.

Manually calculate the taxable imputed income for company paid life insurance.

Letting Integrity Data's Life Insurance Tax Calculator automatically calculate

the taxable imputed income each pay period.

Dan!
