BETWEEN JUDGES WHO ARE APPOINTED BY DEMOCRATS VERSUS

REPUBLICANS AND HOW THAT IMPACTS THEIR SENTENCING DECISIONS.

ARE THERE DIFFERENCES AND IF SO, WHAT ARE THEY?

THE RESEARCHERS FOUND

THE FOLLOWING:

THEY FOUND THAT REPUBLICAN APPOINTED JUDGES ARE LIKELY TO

BE HARSHER ON BLACK CRIMINALS WHEN IT COMES TO SENTENCING

AND ARE MORE LENIENT WHEN IT COMES TO FEMALES WHEN IT

COMES TO SENTENCING.

I HAVE TO BE HONEST, I WAS SURPRISED BY THE FEMALE

CONVICTS IN THIS CASE.

I AM A LITTLE IFFY ON THAT PART OF IT BECAUSE WHILE THE DATA

MIGHT PROVE THAT TO BE TRUE, I DO THINK THAT GIVING JUDGES MORE

DISCRETION IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IF YOU START DOING MANDATORY

MINIMUMS AND THINGS LIKE THAT, OFTENTIMES THOSE MANDATORY

MINIMUMS ARE INFLUENCED BY THE PRIVATE PRISON INDUSTRY AND

THOSE WHO WANT TO IMPRISON PEOPLE FOR LONGER PERIODS

OF TIME BECAUSE THERE IS A PROFIT MOTIVE BEHIND THAT

SO I DO LIKE JUDGES HAVING MORE DISCRETION BUT ACCORDING TO THE

DATA IN THIS STUDY, THERE ARE DOWNSIDES TO THAT IN SOME CASES.

I THINK THAT IS A REALLY TOUGH QUESTION, ESPECIALLY

WHEN YOU DIVE INTO THE DATA HERE.

IF YOU ARE A WOMAN, WELL, YOU WANT TO DRAW A REPUBLICAN

JUDGE, THEY ARE GOING TO BE MORE LENIENT ON US IN A POINTED OUT.

IT'S NOT REALLY FAIR TO MEN, BUT REPUBLICAN JUDGES ARE NOT

WHITE DEFENDANTS DO, SO YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW WHAT WHITE

PRIVILEGES OR MY NOT EXPERIENCING IN YOUR LIFE,

BUT THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE PHRASE OF WHITE

PRIVILEGE IS THAT YOU NEVER SEE IT IF YOU ARE WHITE.

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT YOU GOT FIVE MONTHS IN PRISON LESS

THAN A BLACK I DID FOR THE SAME CRIME SO AS YOU ARE SITTING

IN PRISON, YOU DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE WHITE PRIVILEGE.

YOU DON'T HAVE YOU READ YOU'RE NOT RIGID ON A POWER, YOU

ARE SITTING IN A JAIL CELL.

WE DON'T KNOW IS YOU GOT FIVE MONTHS LESS THAN A BLACK

MAN FIRST THE SAME THING.

PEOPLE FIND IT OFFENSIVE OR AT LEAST DIFFICULT TO ACCEPT OR

UNDERSTAND WHAT THE WHOLE NOTION OF WHITE PRIVILEGE IS BECAUSE

IT IS BASICALLY ACCEPTING THAT YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCING

CERTAIN THINGS AND SO IF YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCING THINGS THEN

IT IS HARD FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND IT SO IF YOU ARE GETTING A

SHORTER PRISON SENTENCE YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THAT.

I DON'T WANT TO GET INTO A WHOLE DISCUSSION ABOUT WHY PRIVILEGE

AGAIN BECAUSE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO UNDERSTAND IT DO PEOPLE WHO

DON'T WALL AND THEY WILL GET TRIGGERED BY IT BUT LET'S GET

GOING WITH THE FACTS THOUGH THIS IS MY INTERPRETATION OF IT BASED

ON OBVIOUS MATH HERE BUT DEMOCRATIC JUDGES, THEY GIVE

ABOUT TWO MONTHS MORE TO BLACK DEPENDENT DEFENDANTS THAN WHITE

DEFENDANTS AS WELL BUT REPUBLICANS GAVE EVEN MORE

SENTENCING, LONGER SENTENCES TO BLACK THAN DEMOCRATS DO.

ALSO THIS IS A SMALL DISTINCTION AND TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT IS

WORTH BUT WE ARE SPECIFICALLY TALKING ABOUT JUDGES

APPOINTED BY REPUBLICANS VERSUS JUDGES APPOINTED BY DEMOCRATS.

WE ALL KNOW IT IS MORE LIKELY THAT A REPUBLICAN WILL

APPOINT A REPUBLICAN JUDGE AND DEMOCRATS WILL DO THE SAME

BUT THAT IS A STILL AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION.

I HEAR YOU BUT PEOPLE HANG THEIR HATS ON THOSE

SEMANTICS AND IT'S NONSENSE.

REPUBLICANS VUTE IN REPUBLICAN WAYS.

GORSUCH SAYS THERE ARE NO REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT

JUDGES BUT THEN VOTES WITH THE REPUBLICANS EVERY TIME.

OF COURSE THERE ARE.

SOMETIMES THEY ARE EVEN ELECTED AND THEY ARE IN A POLITICAL

PARTY.

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT JUDGES FROM STATES THAT ARE HISTORICALLY

MORE RACIST SO WAY, HOW DO YOU DETERMINE IF ESTATE IS A RACIST?

THEY HAD AN INTERESTING PROXY FOR THAT.

WHAT IS THE POLLING ON WHETHER YOU THINK INTERRACIAL

MARRIAGE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

IF YOU LIVE IN A STATE WHERE THERE IS A HIGHER PERCENTAGE

OF PEOPLE WHO THINK INTERRACIAL MARRIAGE IS UNACCEPTABLE OR

SHOULD BE ILLEGAL, THE SOUTH, BUT NOT JUST THE SOUTH.

IF YOU LIVE IN A STATE LIKE THAT THEN BLACK DEFENDANTS ARE

TREATED EVEN MORE HARSH THAN WHITE DEFENDANTS SO YES, IT IS

CULTURAL IN SOME WAYS SO WHEN PEOPLE SAY WE ARE PROUD OF OUR

HERITAGE, THERE ARE GOOD THINGS TO BE PROUD OF EVERYWHERE

INCLUDING IN THE SOUTH BUT THERE ARE ALSO BAD PARTS SO IN THIS

CASE THAT CULTURE OF RACISM SEEPS DOWN AND IT DOESN'T MEAN

EVERYONE IN THE STATE IS OR EVERY REPUBLICAN JUDGES BUT ON

AVERAGE, IT DOES SEEM DOWN SO THAT BLACK PEOPLE GET MORE

PRISON TIME THAN WHITE PEOPLE FOR THE SAME CRIMES.

AND IT IS IMPORTANT TO REALLY EMPHASIZE THAT.

SO HOW WAS THE STUDY DONE, WHAT WAS THE METHODOLOGY?

AS I MENTIONED IT WAS DONE BY TWO HARVARD RESEARCHERS AND

ALMA COHEN AND CRYSTAL YANG ARE THE RESEARCHERS WHO DID THAT.

HERE'S THE METHODOLOGY.

ONE OF THE

REASONS WHY THIS PARTICULAR STUDY IS GETTING SO

MUCH ATTENTION IS BECAUSE OF ITS LENGTH AND BECAUSE OF HOW

EXTENSIVE IT WAS AND SO PEOPLE WHO STUDY CRIMINAL JUSTICE

ARE LOOKING AT THIS AS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT DATA.

THIS IS NOT A POLITICALLY MOTIVATED FLAWED STUDY,

THIS IS A PEER-REVIEWED STUDY THAT AGAIN WAS DONE OVER A

LONG PERIOD OF TIME AND OF COURSE, THEY MADE SURE TO

LOOK AT PEOPLE WHO WERE CHARGED AND CONVICTED OF THE SAME

CRIME IN ORDER TO COMPARE THESE DISPARITIES.

ANOTHER FINDING THAT I THOUGHT WAS INTERESTING WAS THAT

BLACK JUDGES TREAT MALE AND FEMALE

OFFENDERS MORE FAIRLY.

IT TURNS OUT IF YOU ARE A BLACK REPUBLICAN YOU MIGHT LIKE

LOWER TAXES BUT YOU DON'T NECESSARILY THINK BLACK

PEOPLE ARE DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU ARE BLACK.

BY THE WAY, IT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE BUT IT TURNS OUT ON

AVERAGE FOR JUDGES IT IS THE CASE.

THEY LOOKED AT HALF A MILLION DEFENDANTS.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT STUDY.

I ACTUALLY THINK THEY WENT OVER THE TOP AND TRYING TO POINT

OUT HOW FAIR AND NONJUDGMENTAL THEY WERE TAUGHT IN ONE

CASE THEY TALKED ABOUT, THEY SAID LOOK, WE ARE NOT

JUDGING WHETHER THIS IS A RIGHT OR WRONG THING.

WHAT YOU MEAN?

BLACK PEOPLE ARE GETTING LENGTH AND LENGTHIER SENTENCES

THAN WHITE PEOPLE FOR THE SAME CRIME.

YOU CAN JUDGE THAT, THAT IS A BAD THING.

IT IS LIKE BENDING OVER BACKWARDS, RIGHT WING,

MAYBE IT IS AN OKAY THING TO BE RACIST AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE.

LET ME READ YOU THE EXACT QUOTE BECAUSE LET'S REPRESENT

THEM ACCURATELY.

THEY SAID THE FOLLOWING:

THAT IS WHAT THEY SAID.

YES, AND I'M NOT TRYING TO DENIGRATE THEM, THEY DID AN

REPUBLICANS TO SEND SENTENCE OF BLACK PEOPLE TO LONGER

TERMS THAN WHITE PEOPLE.

I HOPE NOT BUT THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE RIGHT-WING

ATTACKS EVERYONE ENDLESSLY.

THIS IS MY SPECULATION SO TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH.

MY READ IS THAT THEY DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO THINK THAT THIS

RESEARCH WAS DONE WITH POLITICAL MOTIVATIONS.

THEY WANTED TO FIND ACCURATE DATA AND MAKE SURE THAT IT

IS CLEAR THAT IT IS ACCURATE DATA THAT IS NOT

POLITICALLY MOTIVATED BECAUSE THEY KNOW THIS IS A

SENSITIVE TOPIC THAT THEY WILL PROBABLY GET ATTACKEDÖ

AND I'M SURE THAT A LOT OF THE RIGHT WING WILL GO, GOD THEY

SAID THAT BECAUSE I THINK LIKE PEOPLE SHOULD GET HIGHER

SENTENCING FOR THE SAME CRIMES AS BLACK PEOPLE, BECAUSE

THEY'RE MORE DANGEROUS THAT YOU THINK THEY WILL SAY THAT?

THEY WILL SAY THAT IN THE COMMENT SECTION OF THIS VIDEO.

AND THE NEW YORK TIMES BENT OVER BACKWARDS AND SAYS IT WAS

1999 AND 2013 AND SINCE IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS PUSHED

FOR SENTENCING REFORM.

SOME OF THAT IS A TINY BIT TRUE.

DO YOU THINK THAT HAS AFFECTED ALL OF THE JUDGES IN THE

COUNTRY ALREADY.

RAND PAUL SAYS HE WANTS HIM SENTENCING REFORM.

NEVERMIND EVERYBODY, THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THEY ARE DOING IT.

TO BE FAIR TO THEM, THE JUDGES AREN'T GOING AROUND SAYING

I HATE BLACK PEOPLE, I AM RACIST, I'M GOING TO MAKE

SURE THAT THE BLACK PERSON GETS MORE TIME AND I HATE

GUYS AND I'M GOING TO MAKE SURE THE GUY GETS MORE TIME.

NO, IT IS SUBCONSCIOUS BIAS.

Roseanne Barr has always been a very outspoken Hollywood Actress.

She's known for her amazing role as Roseanne Conner on her hit 90's tv series "Roseanne".

ABC decided to bring back the show right where it left off, but with a Conservative feel.

This was intentional.

Hollywood is starting to understand that the majority of people that watch their network

are middle-class Americans who are just trying to make it to the next paycheck to pay bills.

After the 2016 presidential elections, ABC felt they needed to get "In Touch" with

middle-class America by revamping the hit series.

The First episode had to be spectacular.

Roseanne came on with arms swinging defending President Trump to her sister Jackie Harris

who wore a P-hat as she walked in the front door.

Right then and there the comeback had become a success.

This was short lived ( Like we all knew it would be)

Recently, Roseanne made a very offensive remark on Twitter about former Obama adviser Valerie

Jarrett.

Doesn't seem too bad, does it?

It's really not, and let me explain to you why.

Roseanne was making a simple remark that Jarette looked like a character from Planet Of the

Apes, and was referring to her Muslim upbringing.

What's wrong with that?

To millions of Americans, NOTHING.

It was a simple joke that the Politically Correct in Hollywood took completely out of

context, and has then accused Roseanne of tweeting a very offensive racist remark.

Let's be real.

yes, it was a little offensive, but it was also funny.

She's a comedian.

What more do you expect?

Every single day you hear Hollywood's elitist left constantly bad mouthing President Trump

calling him horrible names, and making up fake news stories to try and crush any hope

that President Trump is doing a damn good job.

There is a huge double standard here.

Bill Maher can go on his show, and make fun of Sarah Palin's son with down syndrome.

He's called plenty of Conservative women "B*tches", and has attacked Melania Trump

several times.

Kathy Griffin literally held up a blood head that represented President Trump being Beheaded.

It took some time, but she was eventually blacklisted.

It didn't' last long.

Today, Griffin is out doing her "Comedy" tour and has yet to actually be held accountable

by the mainstream media.

Time after time there have been so many vulgar things said about Conservatives on Live TV

and Television sitcoms.

Yet, NO ONE is held accountable.

Roseanne has had enough of the holier than thou elitist in Hollywood.

She's now lashing back out at everyone including her co-stars.

A day after she apologized for a racist tweet comparing former key Obama aide Valerie Jarrett

to an ape, Roseanne Barr is lashing out against her "Roseanne" colleagues who denounced

her on Twitter.

"Roseanne" was canceled on Tuesday after Barr's tweet went viral.

Barr's former co-star Michael Fishman, who played her son D.J.

Conner on "Roseanne," said he "condemned" Barr's tweet about Jarrett and said he was

"devastated" by the show's cancellation.

He said he was especially disappointed because the show embraced inclusivity.

Barr responded: "i created the platform for that inclusivity and you know it.ME . You

throw me under the bus.

nice!"

Fishman wrote back, "You fought, built, and designed Roseanne for inclusiveness.

That is why yesterday was so out of character with the last 30 years.

It was in your hands from the beginning to the end.

No one can deny that."

Barr asked him to leave her alone.

Barr also hit back at former co-star Sara Gilbert, who played her daughter Darlene Conner

on the show.

Gilbert wrote that Barr's comments about Jarrett were "abhorrent" and "do not

reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show.

I am disappointed in her actions to say the least."

Barr wrote back, "Wow! unreal."

WASHINGTON — President Trump acknowledged on Wednesday the furor over a racist Twitter

post made by Roseanne Barr, but focused on an apology issued by ABC instead of the offensive

content of the television star's remarks.

It was the first time the president, who previously had called Ms. Barr to congratulate her on

the success of her sitcom's reboot, had weighed in on the fallout over her Twitter

En pleine promotion, l'animateur de 58 ans s'est rendu aujourd'hui sur le plateau du Grand oral des Grandes Gueules (Numéro 23)

Le sujet de la télé-réalité a été abordé pendant l'émission et c'est à ce moment-là qu'il s'est lâché en taclant deux figures emblématiques

Vincent Lagaf' n'a en effet pas mâché ses mots et a directement fait allusion à Nabilla ainsi qu'à Loana : "Il y a cette télévision qui pour moi est en train d'expliquer à une catégorie de jeunes gens que si tu te fais gonfler la poitrine, les lèvres, si tu mets des coups de couteau à ton mec, si tu fais une tentative de suicide, dix tentatives de suicide et que tu te fais sauter dans un jacuzzi, tu finis sur le tapis rouge au festival de Cannes

" Pour rappel, Nabilla avait fait sensation en montant les marches lors de 71e édition

Visiblement remonté, Vincent Lagaf' ne comprend pas pourquoi C8 lui censure ses vannes dans Strike - notamment envers un candidat en situation de handicap - alors que le contenu des émissions de télé-réalité semble ne poser aucun problème

"Là, je dis il y a vraiment un gros problème et plutôt que venir nous emmerder sur des histoires d'enfants handicapés coupées au montage, je me dis qu'il y aurait des choses à regarder sur cette télévision-là qui est quand même dangereuse", a-t-il conclu

JUNE MOVIE RELEASES - DIGIBOOKS, STEELBOOKS, 4K, OHMY! - Duration: 8:36.

hi everybody welcome back to my channel if you don't know who I am I'm Sarah

Starkiller and I make videos about art and movies and today's video is going to

be a roundup of movie releases for June 2018 so stick around if you want to see

what's coming out this month

and as usual the first half of this video will be theatrical film releases and

the latter half will be blu-ray releases and up first being released on Friday

June 1st is upgrade starring Logan Marshall Green Michael M Foster and

Betty Gabriel in a near future where technology rules everything

self-proclaimed technophobe faces a harsh reality when he realizes that an

experimental computer chip is his only hope for revenge so this movie seems

really different it is very sci-fi II and very like technology-focused

so I'm excited to see what it has to bring I also really like Logan Marshall

Green and next on Friday June 8th is Heriditary starring Toni Collette Gabriel

Byrne and Alex wolff after a recent death a family begins to learn a cryptic and

horrifying secret about their ancestry I actually saw a trailer for this movie

before a YouTube video I don't know which one and I thought it sounded so

cool it looked really scary and I also saw like a 30-second interview with the

writer / director before another YouTube video and I liked what he had to say it

looks really cool there's some creepy like dolls and stuff

in it so it seems like good watching and that same weekend is also the release

date for won't you be my neighbor which is a documentary about the life and

legacy of children's television host Fred Rogers this seems like it's gonna

be a really sweet and probably super heartfelt documentary I used to watch

mr. Rogers when I was a kid obviously on reruns so it seems like it'll be a fun

time a very enlightening time probably because I know nothing about Fred Rogers

at all so it just seems like it would be good watching I might not catch it in

theaters but I will definitely rent it on Netflix eventually and on Friday June

15th Incredibles 2 starring Holly Hunter Craig T Nelson and samuel l.jackson

while Elastigirl is working hard at saving the world

mr. incredible stays home to take care of Jack Jack I saw The Incredibles when

I was a kid and I loved it I thought it was a very fun movie I also very much so

love Pixar movies so I'm excited to see this one especially since it's been oh

like what twelve year wait at least so I want to see where this one goes

I have not seen any trailers for it but I have seen some promotional artwork and

of course I'm probably gonna love it I am a Disney fan girl as much as I don't

want to admit it on Friday June 22nd is Jurassic world: fallen Kingdom

starring Chris Pratt Bryce Dallas Howard and Jeff Goldblum after a sleepy volcano

wakes up and threatens the lives of everyone and all the dinosaurs Chris

Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard band together to try to save everyone and the

dinosaurs I honestly loved Jurassic world Jurassic Park

is a great movie the following two were you know alright and Jurassic world I

think is also very good it's good it's fun yeah there are a few mistakes in

it there's a bit of dumb stuff but I think it's cool and this one will definitely

be entertaining perfect for the summer and rounding out my theatrical releases

on Friday June 29th is Sicario Day of the Soldado starring Josh Brolin Benicio

del Toro and Isabella Moner tensions rise at the us-mexico border as the

cartel starts smuggling in terrorists into the United States

and now we're gonna go on to blu-ray releases so on Tuesday June 5th will be

thoroughbreds which I honestly did not catch in theaters but it seems really

interesting and I was looking forward to watching it but nobody wanted to see it

with me so I'll try to buy the blu-ray I'm hoping to buy the blu-ray there is

no like special edition or anything it's just a blu-ray with a slipcover but I

really like those kind of movies so and on the same day is the Best Buy

exclusive Incredibles 4k 3 disc edition it is gorgeous

the cover art is amazing I love it I'm sure it'll be hard to find out in the

wild I for some reason never preorder anything I just like going out and

trying to find it so that will be an adventure to try to find and another

Best Buy exclusive steelbook releasing on the same day is the 40th anniversary

edition of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre it is a single disc and it is absolutely

gorgeous again so I really really really really want this one I should probably

preorder it I don't know if it'll be hard to find her anything but this is

one of the scariest movies ever and I love it so and up next on Tuesday June

12 is The Strangers prey at night there is a cool embossed slipcover that

I'm looking forward to getting it is 2 disc blu-ray and DVD I didn't catch this

movie in the theaters but I'm very very very much so love the first one I've

heard some mixed reviews about this one but I'm still excited to add it to my

collection so it could go right next to the first one and on the same day is the

target exclusive digi-book of Love, Simon this one comes with a slipcover

and is a lenticular cover as well it is super cute looking I haven't seen this

movie but I've heard nothing but amazing things about it and I'm very very much

so excited to watch this movie I read the book and I loved it and I'm I'm just

excited to see it I'm gonna buy it for sure like no

matter what so it's gonna be a mission and last but not least on Tuesday June 19th

is Pacific Rim Uprising that has a bunch of different editions coming out

including a two disc 4k Edition a two disc 3d edition and a Best Buy exclusive

three disc Edition that has 4k and 3D and also a two disc target exclusive Edition

that is a steelbook I really wish that the target edition

was a digibook and lenticular cover like they tend to do I know they do steelbook

sometimes but I don't know I am a sucker for digibooks I don't know why I

really like the lenticular covers I didn't watch this movie either by the

way but I also very much so enjoyed the first one even though it's silly and I

don't know who doesn't like giant Japanese creatures fighting like giant

robots well those were the june releases that I'm most excited for I left a few

out for each category to be honest some honorable mentions for theatrical

releases are Hotel Artemis on June 8th starring Jodie Foster which is about a

like hotel for criminals and also on June 29th Leave No Trace a starring Ben

Foster which is about like hmm how do I describe this it's about like a father

and daughter that live off the land in like the forest and they get caught

and like their whole lives change basically let me know in the comments if
