 Emerson Palmieri, who has been linked with a move away, is the suitable replacement and deserves an opportunity to show what he can do, because he hasn't had one yet from either Sarri or Antonio Conte

  Mateo Kovacic  Two assists and no goals in 20 Premier League appearances is really not the return that the Blues would have been hoping for when he cam on loan from Real Madrid

 Playing on the left of the three in midfield, the Croatian has offered little in the way of attacking impetus and his defensive qualities have sometimes been called into question

 If Ruben Loftus-Cheek was fit then you would think that he would be getting a stint in the side, but as it is Ross Barkley is the most likely to come into the side

 Ethan Ampadu could even bring something different to the starting XI, but Kovacic's position is surely under threat

  Willian  He scored a brilliant goal in the win over Newcastle United, but his inconsistency is plaguing the Blues right now and once again that reared its head in the loss at Arsenal

What Happens if you Recycle My Computer? | Nostalgia Nerd - Duration: 9:21.

[clicking mouse sounds]

So, we've all seen the video, or the JIF of the video, or GIF or GJIF whereby an old man

sits at his desktop computer and proceeds to put the "My Computer" icon of Windows '95

into the Recycle Bin, whereby the physical machine itself pops! out of existence.

The confused old man then calls to his wife, or what I presume to be his wife, who is no

doubt furious that all her latest Quake saves are now gone for all eternity.

The question is, what would happen if we did this in real life?

We took the My Computer icon and put it in the Recycle bin.

Would the desktop machine disappear?!

Let's find out....

[grumbling sounds]

I can't believe I'm bloody doing this.

What a waste of time.

[FUNK]

[Computer startup beeps (soothing)]

[funky piano riff]

For this task, I'll be using a Packard Bell Club PC from 1998.

This actually has an Intel Celeron processor, one of the very first, and was donated to

me by Chris at Games You Loved.

Ultimately, it's perfect for the job in hand.

Here's the desktop, I know it's Windows '98 rather than '95, but for this test, it's exactly

the same.

I'll just re-position "My Computer" and the "Recycle bin" for easier visibility, and let's

move it across.

[TENSE DRAMATIC MUSIC]

MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!

Of course, what really happens is Windows prevents you from even performing the action.

I mean if you were to put "My Computer" in the recycle bin, you'd be telling Windows

to delete all the data from all your drives, and no one wants that do they?......

"now I wanna show you OS/2 Warp"

"this is errr.... a cup of tea?"

[ding!]

It's also not really feasible, it would be like a cat trying to consume itself starting

at the tail end, there would be a point when the cat would either get a grip of itself, or

just die.

So with Windows we get this little stop symbol, a bit like we're being told off.

It's not just "My Computer" Windows gets knarkey about either.

If you try and put The Microsoft Network in there it gets upset, or anything which Microsoft

has deemed essential to the Operating System.

It's clear they understand where Internet Explorer belongs however, as it not only let's

you delete it, it doesn't even allow it in the recycle bin.

Marvellous self awareness Microsoft, even back in 1998.

You can create shortcuts of all of these icons of course, and put them in the Recycle bin,

but then you're simply recycling a shortcut to the main event, a link if you will, which

has no effect on functionality.

But maybe there's another way?

Maybe we can access Recycle Bin by other means?

Well, first let's explore a bit about how his bin came to be.

After all it's prudent to know your enemy.

[synth music]

If we look back at Graphical User Interfaces we usually start with NLS developed in 1968

by Douglas Engelbart.

It was the first to make use of a mouse, linking, windowing and many features we associate with

modern Operating Systems.

This laid the foundations for Xerox's Alto system shown here, which took another stepping

stone and was indeed the inspiration for Steve Jobs to create the GUI for the Apple Lisa.

The first to incorporate what was known as the "Wastebasket", which carried over to the

Macintosh as "Trash".

Here, when a file is deleted it's sent to a .Trashes folder, which can then be cleared

out.

With Microsoft however, such functionality wouldn't appear - of course - until Windows

'95, launching in August 1995...

[advert music]

Wait a minute...

Who the hell takes a full blown desktop computer into a coffee shop?!

but Microsoft had already been building up to it under their previous Operating System, DOS.

Now, DOS is a command line driven interface, so things are a little different, but in MS-DOS

version 5 released in June 1991 we had the first steps using the Mirror command.

Using Mirror you could activate a memory resident program to track any files which have been

deleted, in the hope of recovering if needed.

Now, this isn't the same as the Recycle bin, because anything you delete is at risk of

annihilation if over-written by something else.

All we have instead is a copy of the disk's File Allocation Table, so that DOS can attempt

to recover data if required.

In DOS 6, this functionality was merged into the Undelete command, which also added a Sentry

option.

If this Terminate and Stay Resident portion is loaded, then any files deleted will be

moved to a hidden Sentry folder, allowing for full restore later if necessary.

Pretty much exactly like the Recycle bin, although with some limitations regarding directories.

If you had Windows 3.1 then DOS 6.22 also came with a set of tools, allowing you to

use utilities such as Undelete in the relative safety of Windows.

Here you can see, if I delete this bitmap file I created earlier, I can restore it - well

mostly, it appears everything can be recovered apart from the first letter of the file name,

which I presume was overwritten by some portion of the Windows swap file.

Given Windows 3.1 is simply running on DOS, I would still need the Sentry component of

Undelete loaded to recover it fully.

So back to Windows '95, or '98 in this instance.

Can we seek out the Recycle bin folder itself using the DOS command prompt?

Well, yes we can, it's a hidden folder, but just like the Sentry directory, there it sits,

plain as day in the root directory.

I can even copy files in and out of it using the DOS prompt, HOWEVER, they don't actually

show up in the graphical Recycle bin.

Even if I choose to empty the Recycle bin, they don't get deleted from the actual folder.

That's because Windows is a bit smarter than that, and actually tracks the files which

are sent there.

If I drop stuff in there outside of Windows, it'll be left alone.

So, we although we could manually move the entire contents of the drive into that Recycle

folder manually, I mean, ultimately, what the hell is the point?

Nothing amazing will happen, the PC won't disappear, all it will do is stop working.

Then we'll have to put everything back to where it was and wonder just what we're...

well, I'm doing with my life.

BUT, we could of course try moving the icon itself from the Desktop directory to the Recycle

bin and settle for that.

Oh, no, it doesn't exist as an actual file.

ALL THAT IS LEFT TO DO THEN IS ERASE ALL ICONS FROM THE DESKTOP ALTOGETHER.

ONLY THEN WILL I BE SATED.

So to summarise: You can't put the "My Computer" icon in the Recycle bin through conventional

means.

But you can move everything there through brute force and determination.

Fantastic.

How to Carry Your Gear for Trail Running || REI - Duration: 3:25.

there are a lot of different ways to carry your gear on the run ranging from

smaller belts and handhelds all the way up to larger vests and packs which one's

best for you is going to depend on how long your run is what you need to carry

and your personal preference let's go into detail on the different ways to

carry your gear

so your smallest options are going to be armbands like this or belts these don't

have a ton of capacity so they're great for short runs where you don't need to

carry much with you or longer runs in conjunction with another type of vest or

pack something like this can really just stash your phone or your keys or maybe

some of these belts with slightly larger pockets can also hold a snack as well

next up is handheld bottles I personally love these are some of my favorite

pieces of trail running gear they're great because you basically have enough

water to be out for an hour or two and you have a little pouch usually that can

carry maybe your phone if it's big enough but definitely your keys and a

snack these are awesome because then you don't

have to have anything on your body and they're good visual representation of

how much water you're drinking some people don't like the hard bottles

however so there are soft bottle options which shrink as you go so they get

smaller and remind you to drink your water however there are drawbacks to

handheld bottles obviously you're not gonna be hands-free I don't mind this

personally but if you're gonna be on a trail with a lot of scrambling or rocks

it's good to have maybe some hand movement in there so you might want to

avoid something like this so waste packs come in a variety of sizes ranging from

smaller ones like this where you might be able to stash your phone keys maybe a

snack as well to larger ones like this where you'll encounter a cinch cord and

you can stash an extra layer these are a super personal thing I don't tend to run

with them because they don't fit my body type very well but I know a lot of

runners who swear by them one great thing about them is that you get to be

hands-free so if you're on a technical trail with a lot of scrambling you have

your hands to do everything else and you don't have to worry about your water for

longer runs or for run commuting vests impacts are another great option for

carrying your gear the line between a vest and a pack is kind of blurred but

generally you're gonna see more front features on a vest and often some type

of paneling like this for a more snug fit however there's a big variety in

between the two I really like this smaller pack because it's basically got

just enough space for a layer and some snacks and it's got multiple points of

adjustability so I'll use this for a medium to long trail run when it's maybe

warmer weather and I don't need a ton of stuff something like this is awesome if

you need to carry even more it's got multiple stash pockets and

you're gonna have a lot of space up front to put snacks your phone and

there's even smaller water bottles in here

most vests and packs you'll encounter will also have a space inside to put a

hydration reservoir if you need to carry more fluids with you so with all of this

gear and especially vests in packs fit is super important I personally like to

run with women's specific pack Slyke this one because they usually have

multiple points of adjustability so I get a more secure fit it's really

important to try things on before you purchase something so definitely head

into your local REI try some packs on fill them up run around and see what

feels best for you if you'd like to learn more about trail running be sure

Is It EASIER to Stick to the KETO Diet? - Duration: 4:04.

One of the biggest selling points made by proponents of the ketogenic diet is that it's

supposedly a lot easier to stick to than other diets.

If true, then the keto diet will improve the crucial element of ADHERENCE.

Although a great marketing soundbite, whether evidence of improved adherence exist is another

matter.

In that case, does the scientific literature show greater adherence with the ketogenic

diet?

Let's find out.

First, I want to give a shout-out to the guys at SCI-FIT.net.

It was their amazing review that provided the information for this video.

So, a big thank you to them.

To analyze keto adherence, the guys over at sci-fit.net first searched for the relevant

studies.

In doing so, they made sure to exclude metabolic ward and feeding studies.

Studies where participants were given pre-prepped meals.

Such studies are great for observing specific ketogenic elements but does not mimic real-life

adherence.

Thus, the exclusion.

Accounting for this and other criteria, like prescribing subjects to eat at most 70 grams

of carbs daily and the goal required is weight loss, it came down to 10 suitable studies.

As far as measuring adherence, one method is to see if participants remained in ketosis.

A blood ketone level of 0.5 millimoles per liter or higher is commonly accepted by keto

proponents as being in the state of ketosis.

If subjects were not above this mark when they're supposed to be, thus not in ketosis,

then we would assume they were eating too many carbs thus lack adherence.

Now, let's get to the findings.

Out of the 10 studies, only two groups ever actually achieved ketosis at any point of

the experiments.

Others were within borderline ketosis but ketone levels decreased over time.

Now some have theorized, without clear evidence, that keto adaptation will naturally decrease

blood ketone levels, thus lower levels don't necessarily mean a lack of diet adherence.

However, if we do look at those metabolic ward studies where diets are more tightly

controlled, we should see a decreasing ketone effect if the adaptation theory is true.

But, we do not.

We instead see ketone levels remaining high throughout the experiment, contradicting the

adaptation theory.

But, beyond blood ketones, we can also at look self-reported carb intake data.

If subjects reported eating above their carb limit, then clearly, they did not adhere to

the diet.

That being said, in long-term studies, it was common to see groups break well above

the 70-gram carb threshold, at times more than double.

Short-term studies at 13 weeks or fewer, though, did show better adherence.

However, self-reported data isn't exactly the most reliable information.

In fact, studies on the self-reported intake show that people typically think they eat

less than they actually eat, especially when trying to lose weight.

Something to consider.

Luckily, there's one more factor to observe that's also a bit more concrete for measuring

adherence.

We can look at drop-out rates.

The guys at sci-fit.net pooled together 1,307 experimental keto participants, of which 319

dropped out, versus 1,294 control participants, where 311 dropped out.

That's 24.4% of dropouts in the experimental groups versus 24% for the control groups.

AKA, dropout rates were virtually the same.

Now with scientific data, it looks like keto advocates might not have been entirely accurate

with the "easier to stick to" agenda.

But if you PERSONALLY feel that you can stick to the diet without much problem, then by

all means continue with it.

For those that repeatedly struggle eating so few carbohydrates, you might be better

off trying something else.

one may think two small words,

but those words carry so much meaning.

For me to have this position at this time,

it's coming home to Illinois,

and this was the perfect place for that, for me.

asking our alums to come home,

to reconnect with the institution.

Why?

Because we need you.

Alums have provided that foundation

for the institution to move forward,

and so we need that connectivity for the future.

The next chapter of NEIU's history

is one of reaching out and reaching in.

That is really the vision for the institution,

that NEIU embrace the future

with as many constituent groups as possible,

because working together, working collaboratively,

I don't have 36 photos of the home. Well, no big deal

All you gotta do is come over here and maybe you've got 27 photos

Okay, or you got 19 photos and then we just hit save up in the top right-hand corner

it says website saved and published we hit exit and

then

What we can do here is you can see right here. This is the listing Lee's campaign that we just generated

So if we click on this we come over here to view 19 photos now

So remember we're gonna be creating a Facebook post or Facebook ad

They're gonna click on this link and instead of going to this page right here

They're coming to your new landing page that you created and took like what 20 seconds they come in here type in view 19 photos

type in their name

We'll say I'll put my full name right there Jason and then for this one

I'll just put in a dummy phone number for this then we hit submit

And at this point the person becomes a lead in our database and like this guys

I just got a lead notification on the arsenal' mobile app saying that a lead was generated

So I can't I don't know if you guys can see that right here

So now I can jump into the Arsenal mobile app

And this person we will have an automated follow-up that goes out to go and follow up with this person

now the nice thing is

This follow-up you can see right here. This is already pre done pre created for you

So you don't even have to copy and paste any email or text marketing templates. It's already done, right?

So if we click on this we can check out this follow-up that's already pre created

So it says hey first name, it will auto populate with whatever name they put on their landing page

Thanks for requesting information on this beautiful home. We'll make this a little bit bigger. So you guys can see it

It says view all of the photos right here

Okay, so you throw in a link to the photos which you can send it to, you know?

The MLS listing or to your website or whatever it is

And then you just update the address and the asking price right here and then everything else is automatically created and populated

For you so you they're instantly going to get a text message from you

Okay, which obviously you've got the mobile app now, so you've got the lead notification?

But when this lead response, you're also going to be able to have that two-way

Communication with that leave right here the mobile app, which is pretty awesome. People. Haven't seen amazing results

So now not only are you generating sub $3 leads with this exact marketing campaign

But you're also able to have this automated follow-ups response happening on complete auto-pilot

So you don't even have to worry about it's gonna say hey first name?

It's gonna auto populate with their name

not to populate with your name your last name and that you can see right here how we have the one day to day and

we have as much as a 14 day follow-up and

that's already pre-built if you wanted to go through and add a three months or six months or 12 months or 24 month follow-up you

I'm a charter school teacher. The LAUSD strike made me realize how I'm part of the problem - Duration: 9:34.

It's a confusing time to be a charter school teacher in Los Angeles.  Usually, I consider myself to have everything in common with my husband and friends who teach in the Los Angeles Unified School District

We put in the same long hours, confront the same piles of ungraded papers and share similar worries and hopes for our students

Advertisement >  But the teachers' strike that ended Tuesday exposed a long-simmering rift between charter and district schools, and it made me confront my own role in the problems we face in Los Angeles education

 The teachers and their union made clear during the negotiations that they believe schools like mine pose an existential crisis to schools like theirs

More than 100,000 children living within district boundaries now attend charters, and the money the state provides for their education has followed them out of LAUSD schools

Moreover, the teachers pointed out, charters tend to pick off the students with more involved parents, leaving public schools with a higher percentage of tougher cases and less funding and space

That's no longer the case, however. The number of K-12 students in the area LAUSD serves is declining as families are priced out of the city, yet new charters are still being approved, as mandated by state law

In fact, the strike has made me consider how charter school expansion is harming the city

As more money is invested in new ideas and new campuses, fewer resources and students are left for the many great programs still trying to gain their footing in our current district and charter schools

 One thing to come out of the strike negotiations was that the school board will vote on a resolution asking the state to establish a charter school cap and the governor to appoint a committee on charter schools

Those things would be a start, and every school board member should strongly support them

 Everyone loses when district and charter schools wage an ugly competition for students and dollars

Already, schools have found that losing a few students or missing enrollment targets can mean no volleyball team, or the loss of a teacher

Those losses in turn encourage flight from a school.  At the root of charter expansion is the belief that the right group of people working together, without being shackled by the district, can fix education

But that so misidentifies the problem.  The real problem is ever-shrinking resources being thrown at kids with ever-growing needs, and that's a problem facing every teacher in Los Angeles

Many students, whether they attend charters or district schools, are living with poverty, instability and trauma

We can't hope to offer such students what they need and deserve when we are stuck in a fight over too-scarce resources

 Our schools, charter or district, won't thrive until we collaborate on changing that

 We are a long way from a system in which we are deeply invested in the success of every school and every student in L

A., but we must make that the mission. We must find a way to stabilize school enrollment, fairly distribute resources and high-need students, and ensure that the charter and district schools currently serving our students get the funding and support needed to offer every single student a safe, caring and inspiring learning environment

The district and the charters within its boundaries alike need to be more democratic, giving power to parents, teachers and other stakeholders
