Liverpool handed major injury boost ahead of Champions League trip to Roma

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane has returned to training after a minor injury, and is expected to be available for Wednesdays clash with Roma.

Mane missed Saturdays 0-0 draw at home to Stoke City with Jurgen Klopp insisting he would be available for the semi-final decider in midweek.

While the managers assessment of injuries often proves overly optimistic, this seems to be the case as the Senegalese joined the squad at Melwood this week.

According to the Mirrors David Maddock, Mane is ready to face Roma, with the 26-year-old likely to start alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in attack.

This relieves Klopp of one injury problem, with Joel Matip, Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also sidelined of late.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson all picked up issues against the Potters at the weekend, but Goals Neil Jones claims they should all travel to Rome.

Neither Alexander-Arnold or Gomez were pictured as the Liverpool squad celebrated Salahs PFA Player of the Year award at the training ground on Monday, however:.

Henderson was present, but interestingly was the only player not wearing boots, and having twisted his ankle at Anfield on Saturday this could suggest he is still nursing an injury.

Matip, Can, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alberto Moreno were also not pictured, though Lallana was back after spending time in South Africa following a hamstring injury.

Youngsters Conor Masterson, Nathaniel Phillips, Herbie Kane, Curtis Jones, Rafa Camacho and Ben Woodburn were all included, with Klopp turning to the academy in the absence of key names.

If neither Alexander-Arnold and Gomez are passed fit, it is likely Nathaniel Clyne will start at right-back at Stadio Olimpico.

Furthermore the absence of Henderson could give an opportunity to one of Woodburn, Kane or Jones, with Georginio Wijnaldum shifting to the No.

6 role.

Klopp should provide further updates on the fitness of his squad in his press conference at the stadium in Rome at 5.

Mohamed Salah picks up latest Player of the Year award after stunning season

Mohamed Salahs remarkable season has been rewarded once again, with the 25-year-old named the Football Writers Association Player of the Year.

Salah has already been named the PFA Player of the Year, voted for by his fellow peers, and the watching media have also chosen him as their star man for 2017/18.

The Egyptian King battled off competition from Man City talisman Kevin De Bruyne and Tottenham striker Harry Kane, as his reputation continues to soar.

Salah has scored an incredible 43 goals in 48 appearances this season, as well as registering 12 assists, exceeding all expectations of supporters when he joined from Roma last summer.

His blistering speed, quick feet, devilish left foot and unbelievable finishing have drawn comparisons with Lionel Messi, which is the ultimate compliment that can be paid.

Salah's year has to be up there with the best ever in the Premier League, and he is just one goal away from breaking the current record of 31 in a 38-game season, also held by Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alan Shearer.

Suarez was the last Liverpool player to scoop the FWA award, taking home the prize after his equally astonishing displays in 2013/14.

Steven Gerrard was the winner back in 2008/09, as he almost inspired the Reds to a maiden Premier League title, while John Barnes was twice voted the cream of the crop, in 1987/88 and 1989/90, with Steve Nicol winning it in between.

Ian Rush (1983/84), Kenny Dalglish (1978/79 and 1982/83), Terry McDermott (1979/80), Emlyn Hughes (1976/77), Kevin Keegan (1975/76) and Ian Callaghan (1973/74) are the other Liverpool greats to have won it.

Salah still has time to win football's biggest individual award at the end of the calendar year, with the Reds' superstar currently in the running for the Ballon d'Or.

Winning the Champions League in Kiev next month would make him red-hot favourite for the prestigious honour, unless Ronaldo or Messi lift the World Cup this summer.

ENGLAND boss Gareth Southgate and Chelsea legend John Terry led the mourners at Ray Wilkins' memorial on Tuesday.

Wilkins died last month, aged 61, after being placed in an induced coma following a heart attack.

Gareth Southgate led the mourners as stars from the footballing world flocked to attend Ray Wilkins' funeral.

Chelsea legend John Terry was also spotted paying his respects to Ray Wilkins, who died last month.

Tributes have been pouring in for the much-loved footballing icon, but they took on an even more sombre mood today, the day of his funeral.

Gianfranco Zola, Glenn Hoddle, Antonio Conte, Frank Lampard, Roy Hodgson and Bruce Buck were other famous faces to attend the Blues legend's service.

Frank Lampard Snr, Jim White, Gordon Taylor, Les Ferdinand, Simon Thomas and Trevor Sinclair were also spotted on the day, as they paid their respects.

Tuesday was just the latest in a long line of tributes paid to Wilkins.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte attended Ray Wilkins' funeral on Tuesday.

Another Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, was seen at Ray Wilkins' service.

Ex-England boss Glenn Hoddle was on show at Ray Willkins' funeral on Tuesday.

Ray Wilkins' fellow QPR legend Les Ferdinand was also spotted at Tuesday's ceremony.

"A man that I've always looked up to as a United fan and a player, plus he wore our countries shirt with pride.

"You will be sadly missed! Our thoughts are with your family and friends.

Meanwhile, Paul Gascoigne wrote: "Such a great loss, just heard he's just passed away, he was such a gentleman an unbelievable player.

RIP Ray xx".

Ray Parlour tweeted: "Absolutely devastated to hear Ray Wilkins has passed away.

Great Guy, football legend. RIP Ray".

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson attended the memorial service for Ray Wilkins on Tuesday.

Gary Lineker also paid his respects on Tuesday having previously done so on Twitter.

  Jamie Redknapp was seen arriving on Tuesday for Ray Wilkins' memorial service.

Southampton manager Mark Hughes was spotted in London for the funeral on Tuesday.

Peter Schmeichel added: "Sad and Shocked to hear of the passing of Ray Wilkins.

A true football person with a totally underestimated contribution to our sport.

"One of the best I've seen.

Rest in peace #RayWilkins @ManUtd.".

Rio Ferdinand shared his pain, tweeting: "RIP Ray Wilkins Always so humble & softly spoken whenever I saw him.

Genuine lovely guy.".

Alan Shearer wrote: "So sad to hear the news about Ray Wilkins.

He lived for and loved football.

He was always a true gentleman.

He will be sorely missed by so many.

And today, I will give you five tips

to follow guideline number three,

to design socially trusted and trustworthy platforms.

A socially trusted and trustworthy platform

is when the platform is void of security or privacy concerns

and is designed and recognized as capable of protecting

its users' information.

Here are a few tips to achieve such a platform.

First, ensure your platform addresses privacy and hacking

concerns upfront.

This can be achieved by offering data

protection services and warranties bundled

in the product.

Second, include a check and balances mechanism

into the fabric of the system as well as optometric encryption

of all data.

Third, data types should be separated.

Only the user's system should have the ability

to assemble data into a cohesive picture.

Think for instance of existing brokerage models used

to pay for purchases without providing credit card

details to the seller.

In those cases, a product can be purchased

and the seller can receive payment

because of the intermediary.

The same thinking could be applied to data,

meaning that an application could provide

a service to the user by dealing with a data broker

instead of getting access to all user data

to perform the action.

Fourth, make AI motivations and actions transparent,

and offer multiple ways for users

to provide feedback to the system.

The system should also explain how and when

feedback will be executed.

Fifth, explain where data is stored

in an accessible and transparent way.

Explain where the data will go and for how long

and who will be able to access it and why.

There are so many opportunities to create

trusted and trustworthy platforms that

provide peace of mind and ensure that data is safe.

One of my interviewees asked, it's always listening,

how secure is it?

What do they do to protect you?

When he says they, he means us, the designers.

People are trusting us to design with their safety

and protection in mind.

Everything changed on the morning

of the collapse in 2008.

The financial market was in chaos

and the world was on its knees.

As a chief investment officer I was shaken.

How did our actions put the system at this kind of risk?

and so in the aftermath of the financial crisis,

my life took a new direction.

I went into government, and joined Mayor Bloomberg

in New York City, where I began to formulate

my ideas about the kind of financial leaders

I wanted to see in the world.

Working with the Aspen Institute I founded

a fellowship programme to train future financial leaders

to step up and accept their responsibility

to deepen finance's role in society.

My life's work has been to ask the hard questions

and lead by example.

It may seem radical, but we can change the world.
